Sabesan...JG padathil IR pinnani isai pattri AnandhaVigadan punch superb :-). Thanks a ton...I enjoyed reading those lines...
I remember cartoonist Madhan's words in a recent TV program,"Pinnani isaiyil innaikku rajaavai adichikka yaarum illai..."
JG proved it yet again, after the massive BGMs in Ramana. Idhu oru padi melay...

Vel, don't brag.
In the first place, JG itself is a blatant copy.
If Kamal so much as gets inspired a little (like in nbe Sivam) everyone takes a pot shot at him. But here you have BM taking a whole novel/movie wholesale.
Cheap....
And very deserving music for it too.

Sabesan...just dont forget the scene which i mentioned in the film JG (jairam searching through the rooms while saritha is away)...Watch IR weave his magic, with a 12-15 minutes long vibrant BGM...awesome. You would love it. Too bad we dont get BGM tracks released..

Iam curious to know the Kalki's review too.
The only 2 TF (TamilFilm) reviews I seriously consider are those of Kalki and Vigadan.
The similarity between Chatriyan 'Pootukkal' and 'Minmini paarvaigal' ends with both being waltz rythm. That is all. The tunes are entirely different.

Vel and Sabesan..you are doing a good job in ignoring the noise in this thread :)

From the Rediff review of "Julie Ganapathy" by Shobha Warrier
http://www.rediff.com/movies/2003/feb/26julie.htm
Another sore point is the jarring and loud background score. Indian films still cannot accept that sometimes silence can be far more effective than loud noises.

Maybe those of you who saw the movie AND think otherwise need to "Share your comments on this article" at the bottom of the page. ;)

i saw it. I agree with Rediff. BGM could have been a little underplayed. someplaces BGM sounded like "sigappu rojakkal"... poor effort.
todays trend: the most creepy music is just "SILENCE".

Hi guys,
I haven't read this entire thread yet, just saw that review in rediff and came here. So, if this has been said already, please ignore this..
This movie seems to be a remake of the 1990 movie 'misery' (I sincerely hope I am wrong), kathy Bates won an academy award for her performance in that one.

http://us.imdb.com/Plot?0100157
I think it is down right disgusting when a talented artist like Balu Mahendra chooses to just remake previous hits from other languages (remember 'marupadium'?).
Has anyone seen both these movies? How different is Julie G from the original?

Pollappu you are right on the money. As a matter of fact I had sent a reply to the editor stating the same and asked that the reviewer directs the credits of the cinematography skills of Balu rather than the script/story which a x-copy of misery.
Roy.

POlappu,
Is it screenplay is also copied?. If the plot is from the novel. its ok. I guess BM credited a non-indian writer for this.

on: Wed Feb 26 14:58:53 EST 2003
I guess even in the initial preview of the movie it was documented that this is inspired from Stephen King's novel. I guess BM gave the due credits.

tamilcinema & rediff. mmm..

i guess the problem with rediff reviewer is that the haunting BGM score could have scared her/him..
like many people complained about the creepy BGM of the movie "THE SHINING".... I personally believe that THE SHINING was one of the best I have ever heard....
So it is like binary logic - a person may like it a lot - or totally dislike it because he cant stand its effects.......

No .. there is something wrong with shoba warrier. The review is written with an intention to contradict with all the other reviews.Every reviewer mentioned the BGM in JG is excellent except Shoba. So nothing to take serious about that.

I happened to watch JG on the same day of it's release in Singapore. It is a very good movie , going by current Tamil Film standards. Later when I read JG reviews, I realised that how stupid reviewers are. Agreed ... The story is that of "Misery", but that's about it. The story is a one liner. A psycho fan harassing a famous story writer, whom she is a fan of. Nothing more than that. There is no plot whatsoever. What makes GJ special is it's Characters & their portrayal. You feel happy when the characters are happy, you are terrified when they are terrified and you feel sad when they are. That's a victory for BM, Hands Down.
I was particularly upset with what shoba warrier had to say : "Another sore point is the jarring and loud background score. Indian films still cannot accept that sometimes silence can be far more effective than loud noises". Come on ... ma'm .... What are you up to. JG is not a documentary, where you do not need to have BGM. It's a fiction and I would say the movie would have been an absolute crap had it not been IR's BGM. It is IR through his unbelievable skill, who translated the right emotions of the characters and situations through his BGM to the audience. No disputing on that front. And M'am .... you don't have teach the Master when to be Silent and When not to. If you were to call this BGM "jarring and loud", you must be nuts and out of sorts.

After having seen Ramana, I can guess what kind of noise IR would have given as BGM for JG.
Poor fools!
