ALAVANDHAAN - fails miserably?!?!?!?!?!?!?

This 'so-called' film critic from REDIFF.COM says 'ABHAY' (Hindi Version of ALAVANDHAAN' is a crap movie. The link is given below...

How crucial was 'music' a crucial factor for a film like ALAVANDHAAN?

  Going back to moon signs and rising signs, neutral fan, do u know wat ur signs really r? I mean, i'm not talking abt the inaccurate approximations given in western astrology calculations, but the accurate vedic/jyotish way of calculating. U may or may not know this, but the lagna/lagnam or the 1st house on ur jyotish chart is the rising and the 'raasi' as we call it in Tamil is the moon. U know wat i'm talking abt?

  Brilliant post on Paranoid Schizophrenia, Neutral Fan. Kamal did medical and cinematic justice to the role. Casting pearls before swine, Well; Kamal has gone through this dilemma many times now. Grow up Tamilians. Boy loves girl; Girl loves boy, Parents object, Rape Scene; Songs; Dance; Fights..... is this all you'll want/know ?

  i like father love daughter etc kind of paedophilic stories...wow what a great potrait of this hero who medically, physically, chemically, biologically, even idiotically analysed synthesised whatelse-sized and "lived" wow! a great tribute to cinema. Why not (not a frequenter of this forum) show paedophile in one of the NGO's survey it shows that .825% of Indian fathers are paedophiic and "that hero" is potraiting only such father in his "historical" highly analysed and Must be accepted cinema.

  1) neutralfan is 1-way blind.. he did read any of my posts but he cooly expects me to read and reply to his posts..

  Your postings and arguments for Abhay is very good. The only thing where I think you miss the point is--the film itself is supposed to give all this information you posted here. People cannot watch movie with dictionary beside them to know meaning of SCHIZOPHRENIA and NECROPHILIA. I was suprised that Kamal actually used the word NECROPHILIA in the movie.
  
  But the basic point is you have to cinematically convey all the things you pointed out IN THE SCREEN. This is is not literary medium to analyse WORDS and LINES to intrepret the meanings and narrative scope of the film rather Film is a visual medium and hence the filmmaker have to visually intrepret motivation and the narration to the audience. Kamal & Suresh Krishna suceeded a little and failed mostly in Abhay. This doesn't make them any way bad filmmakers. When you get into complex story like this you lose the perspective. So consider this is just a aberration in Kamal's path. ( or learning experience)
  
  your sarcasm on "average" Indian audience is unfounded and misplaced. Rather I would ask the talented Kamal and successful director Suresh Krishna to put the film intelligently in such a way that even "average" audience understands the film and the NANDHU character and the animation scenes.

  Little Digression:
  
  The film Gladiator story is set in Roman Era when English was not there. But the Arabs in the film speak English in middle-eastern accent. Intially I thought it was funny but then I realized it actually increases the believablity of the character for current generation although it is odd. This is an intelligent manipulation of audience mind and perception.
  But I fail to understand Kamal English accent. May be he thought it appealed to NRI audience or just may be to show his good accent. Did found it odd that the trailer of Abhay was in English?.

  I watched Alavandhan at the theaters in Toronto, but the had cut out quite a few scenes. I guess because the theaters owners are not Paranoid Schisophrenics like you and I (thanks for pointing this out Mr. Bharath) and therefore did not get it.
  
  I am hoping to get original DVD someday to watch it in full.

  Look this is the bottom line. If Kamal or the movie doesnt say so I'll safely assume it doesnt exist. Reading between the lines also needs to be obvious in a movie.. otherwise it might lead to various contorte theories about what the movie said. Since kamal and the movie didnt talk abot a +/- scizophreniac I'll assume he didnt think it existed.

  That's a excellent point.I think every filmmaker should have this attitude.Instead of getting inspired on technical aspects from Hollywood why don't the filmmakers try to understand character development and how much space each character should have.

  I wouldn't call non-neutral neutral_fan explanation as absurd (kamal also belives the same thing). I would just say it won't work if film.
  
  In my view, NANDHU is not schizophrenia character anymore after he sings "he is half human and half animal". Most of the time he is DAMN clear for schizophrenic. If do not like the argument here is another.. NANDHU shouldn't know "he is half human and half animal" only audience should know. A mad man does not know he is mad. So, NANDHU was schizophrenic/mad at the behest of writer/director, that is, "selective" schizophrenic and hence audience got mad :-).
