IR himself has mentioned in interviews that the song "Inji idupazhaga" was inspired on the "Yeh dil deewana " song atleast he accepts
- From: Vj (@ 61.11.80.188)
on: Tue Apr 16 00:38:35 EDT 2002
absolutely... IR admitted in an interview that Kamal wanted a song which is of the same pattern of "Dil diwana hai"... in IR's own words, kamal wanted that flow of the song to be used.. not the exact song... so IR made a tune out of the song which resembles the flow and the pattern which left kamal astonished... (as usual).. its not an exact ctrl+c...
again, IMHO, inspiration or influence is awright rather than a straight lift..whoever the MD may be..

..and what wd u guys say for the song "inji iduppazhagi" getting national award for SJ.. and when the film got remade in hindi as "Virasat", the same song was copied as "payale chunmun chunmun"... what an irony... original from hindi, modified into tamil, and again copied into hindi and GOT NATIONAL AWARD FOR CHITRA ..no marks for guys who tell me the MD of the hindi version... its their own Deva .. Anu Malik... the eternal plagiarist...
can u guys tell me which same song got national award twice other than "inji iduppazhagi"... ????..
that sums up how good IR has modified the song to his style.. taking just the flow and pattern and creating a different song suiting to tamil audience...

Thats right Vj and Sats..IR has the guts to identify his inspirations and favorite music directors. SDB is like a guru for IR. This song is an example of 'how to compose' - a composition as an elaboration of a pattern. ONLY (note ONLY) the pattern in the first line is used to create a different tune, a whole new song in a different milieu (in tamil style vs hindi). It is unfair to say that this is copied. A very good inspiration that is all. Let us not deprive IR the credit for the original composition of this song.
(Wow..Latha sounds so wonderful in that hindi song..Her current form does not do justice to her younger days)

i second kiru's opinion on this song. it can be called just a inspiration/source of ideas, Inji cant be termed as a copy of the SDB song. the flow of the meter is similar. Same holds for ARR's Sollaayo charanam, about which i had the same feeling when i had heard the song.
If u really want to tell about this song...then choose the Pallavi for the discussion:)..it is very similar to Kallellaam maanickam(MSV song), as most people in the forum would have already discussed:)

If u want to identify exact Copies of songs, there are many instances where the original MD is not given credit(interlinguistic copy).for eg "O priya(Dil) by Anand milind was a direct copy from IR and Northies don't know the actual MD whose song has touched their hearts. such things shd really be made known to people, can anyone suggest some way?

satsona:
There are numerous songs like that. Many South Indian film songs have been lifted/adapted freely by Hindi film composers for a long time. The most lifted is probably IR's songs and the most famous culprit is perhaps Anand Milind.
Here's a latest lift FIY!
Anand Raaj Anand's song 'Aaja meri baahon mein' from Mahesh Manjrekar's yet to be released film 'Pyar kiya nahi jaata'. Check out my site to find out which song its lifted from :-) - a fairly rare tamil song!

Oosai, how can you even say that Alagana Sooriyan is copied from Agaya Veediyil! They just happen to be based in the same raga and that is where the similarity stops.
Please stop this ignorance!

I agree. heard both YSR's and the older song. I wouldnt call it a lift at all. Raga similarity is the right word as Rajesh says.

Karthik, have you heard Inoj's Time after time?
I thought the song's beginning reminds Kaise Hein Yeh Rut from DCH.
Plzz let me know ur opinion reg. this.

Sorry for the hindi related message....
Indian: It sure does sound like it, at least the beginning. On the same note, even the fairly rare Beatles track, 'Two of us' sounds like DCH's Kaisi hai yeh rut! Try hearing it. I wrote to Ehsaan about Two of us and he vehemently denied it saying that all 3 of em havent hrd this song by Beatles. Lemme ask him about Inoj's number! :-)

Also, 'Time after time' is originally by Cyndi Lauper and Inoj merely did a cover version if I'm not mistaken!

Yes Karthik,Time after time is by Cyndi Lauper. The cover by Inoj is merely a miami bass remix, but effective nonetheless!
Kaise Hai yeh rut is very similiar to Time after time!

Please do me a favour and upload "Pennalla pennalla oothaapoo" and "Pesumani muthu rojaakkal." I am particularly interested in the prelude to Pesumani, which goes "Chamchidi chamchidi chamchidi cham... chamchidi chamchidi chamchidi cham".

If you are talking about "kallelaam manikka" song that IR did copy/inspire from it in the film sadhanai.
Listen to the song
"Yenge naan theduven yen anaarkali"
I resently(2 months) came accross this song. Whated to bring this to the notice of this thread, but thot why should I disturb the hornet's nest.
But, check out.

Karthik,
Now the Hindi MDs are digging out ARR's unsung numbers! I am sure this number "Aaja Meri BAhon Mein", based on Dharmavahy raga when reviewed by the so-called music reviewers of HFM will get a lot of praise.. Not once will they ever mention it has 'Southie' flavor. Had the MD been ARR, or KR, they would pounce on them!!
Thanks for posting it.
BTW, Why don't you list Anand-Milind's copies of IR's songs in the 80s? There are dozens of them.
There's not a single case of 'inspiration' here. Only Copy & Paste.
They have mainly copied IR, with an occasional ARR and Shankar Ganesh number.
Is your criteria to list only the original Western Sources?
Well, then there are many other entries that point to Indian sources too, like the one above. :)
Thanks in advance.
Here's my initial list of Anand-Milind's copies:
1. Oh Priya Priya
Hindi: Dil
Original Telugu: Getanjali
2. 'Kya Mausam Aaya Hai' from 'Anari' (duet version) is a slightly modified form of 'pOvOmaa Oorgolam'
3. 'JAne jAn' (female version) from 'Anari' is a ditto copy of 'Nee EngE en anbe' from 'Chinan Thambi'
4. 'Dil mEra Udaas Hai' from Angarakshak is a ditto copy of IR's Tamil oldie 'Asaya kAthula Thoodu Vittu' from 'Johnny'
5. 'Dhak Dhak karne laga' from 'Beta' is a copy+Paste of the Telugu original, 'Abbanee Theeyanee' from 'Jakadeka Veerudu AtilOka Sundari'.
6. 'Main toh deewani Huyee' from 'Vansh' is a copy of 'Thoongaatha VizhigaL ReNdu'.
The movie itself was an unauthorized copy of 'Agni Nakshatram'.
Interestngly the above movie was dubbed in Hindi as 'Aadmi Aur Apsara'!
Karthik, the Anand-Milind page is so empty. Please fill it!! ;)

> Interestngly the above movie was dubbed in Hindi as 'Aadmi Aur Apsara'!
I refer to 'Jakadeka Veerudu...'
Anand Milind had the nerve to copy 'Kaathal ROjavE' from Roja into 'Tere LiyE jAnam' (SuhAg) when the Hindi dubbed version of Roja was already very popular! (Probably they never thought the dubbed version would have such a great impact)

the copy of "Anari" can be pardoned atleast for the fact that it was just a remake of "Chinna thambi"... whereas the other cases, its not.
if u take that case, the film "Badri" had the song "eh pappa.. nee konjam nillu" from the original telugu "Badri" with the same Manisharma as MD...
hey... no single thread on Manisharma? that guy is doing a decent work on Shahjahan / Badri / Narasimma...!!!.. a lot better than SAR and the likes.

"..Northies don't know the actual MD whose song has touched their hearts. such things shd really be made known to people, can anyone suggest some way?"
what i meant was we all have access to these websites and know about these Copying business. but the millions who listen to radios and other media, without access to the Net, i wish we could let them know of the Original MD(may sound silly and unnecessary, but i really mean it):-)
Vj: i think Badri MD is Ramana Gokula, not Mani sharma
