GK,
The common thing between IR and MSV is - melody. MSV most times set lyrics to tune. IR composed the tune/melody first. With ARR, as per his own words, he 'decides' on the rhythm and then goes on to composing a melody. Me thinks he actually has the rhythm arrangement worked out before he starts on the tune. This will be the 'texture' of the song throughout.
ARR was also the first to 'borrow' rhythm arrangements verbatim from other songs, unlike 'borrowing' tunes as done by others (eg. Telephone - Ace of base, thangath thAmarai magalE - khaled, anbe-anbe Peter Gabriel's Passion, ). Note, only the rhythm arrangement is borrowed not necessarily the beats or the tune.

kiru,
Would it be right on my part to logically deduce the following:
If IR and ARR work together, then
1)To get a authentic song, let IR handle the rhythm and ARR handle the tune.
2)To get a not so original song, it's vice-versa.
If my logic sucks, tell me why.

Trend,
Is the 'copared' in the title 'compared' or 'co-paired' ? :-)
I dont want to speculate on how ARR-IR can work together. It is too hypotheical :-).
I just wanted people to understand how these people work. It is upto people who are interested in 'comparing' or 'co-pairing' to use this information. It was just an FYI. It is also my theory that IR wanted to give more than the melody+rhythm in a song. He was giving an elaboration of the melody (call it a mini-concerto) in the interlude. This lent itself well for picturising the song as well. (Again an FYI).
Also, the later part of my posting should go to some other thread but I dont want to do that because you will accuse me of 'maRu oliparappu' :-)

Kiru,
I think people are taking it as 'compared' or 'co-pared' according to their preference or convenience.
"He was giving an elaboration of the melody (call it a mini-concerto) in the interlude."
I agree with you there. He sticks to the theme of the song. What ARR does is he sometimes tries in pack in a lot of different melodies or a piece which may be different from the main melody. He always wants to surprise his fans by giving a lot of variety.(the expectations of earning a lot of revenue for his producer)
I sometimes get the feeling he fuses two or more songs of the same rhythm into one.He sees to it that each beat is different in his song. His each and every beats are analyzed unlike any other music director.
Some do it just for the sake of cross-matching. Because of the variety he infuses into his songs the director of the song can distract the audience as he likes but the theme of the song gets compromised sometimes.

I am not sure about the beats as I do not have that musical ears. but I agree that the 'sound' of the beats will be different in ARR's song. I think he does this mainly to avoid sounding 'same' all the time. This is basically a POP trend.
I am not very fond of POP. POP music business in the US is in a mess. It does not have any particular element to work on. If Jazz, piano, trumpet improvisations and rock had the electric guitar, POP is not going anywhere. After nearly 20 yrs of development the market now is totally dependent on time wonders. There are no repeat performers. The labels rely on sexual images and marketing blitz and silly ploys (like Spice girls or other teenage proteges).
Luckily in India we have a good carnatic/melody tradition to fall back on.
