For all his talent , IR is certainly not and was never above copying ( well , maybe he was 'influenced ' ).Also, ARR has already done substantial work to be seriously compared to the best of our MDs.

nanban,
Just because you name a few songs which IR wouldn't have copied(I'm not sure here) doesn't mean he hasn't copied at all.
Anyway,I liked your extrapolation which would go far in convincing the not very clear thinker that Srikanth's claim is absurd.
Try a better approach next time.I'm sure you will succeed.
I also agree with Isai Gnani it was a nice imagination.

Like there are times you can't explain physics without a good knowledge of mathematics (R.Feynman's words), you cannot appreciate IR's music without knowing what makes music music. Apart from that, it is not a good idea to compare musicians without knowing what each is trying to say through music. If you really want to understand and enjoy music, it would be of great help to learn music at the first place. We give comparisons so much importance that it brings no meaning to the discussion forums. Also, our opinions are not a result of true inderstanding, but is just an emotional banking on someone elses opinions.
Having said that, there are numerous discussion threads on the web that discuss music, composition, improvisation, technique etc...that is worth the time spent. We could participate in those forums and learn something new instead of holding on to the stone club and try to drive a nail or something - when we can learn that there is a tool called hammer.

slow to compose, high in repetition, poor in bgm,no attempts at carnatic music in films, some 'classical' attempts torn to shreds by critics-eppadi ayya ARR is a great composer-nu claim pannareenga.apparently he had to compose tenali in a hurry it seems ie 3 months for the 5 ordinary songs instead of the 6 months it takes for our maestro to compose a superhit album-of which 5 will give you a feeling of where-have- I -heard-this-before feeling.and even ARR fans are not happy with tenali.ARR fans, revel in the hype, wallow in mediocrity -and delude yourself that this is musical bliss!

A R Rahman is heavily influenced by western music, and in his songs, the usage of the accompanying instruments (especially percussion) and recording are usually better than in Izhayaraajaa's songs - I would agree. Rahman also uses more western instruments than Izhayaraajaa. But he (according to what one is told about Rahman by the media) takes around six months to compose music for a film (he reportedly took so long to complete the music for "Taaj Mahaal" that Bhaarathiraajaa decided to have the background scores completed by Sabesh and Murali, and yet most of the songs in the film were totally bad) so it's no surprise that he is able to do this. And when it comes to melody, A R Rahman can't beat Ilayaraajaa. But you can't say A R Rahman is talentless - he is definitely very talented. And what is wrong with bringing Islamic music to the world of Tamil Film Music?

"if IR is greater than ARR y cant he prove that

So, in your yard stick IR is far better than MSV or MSV-TKR, and MSV-TKR are far better than KVM and GR etc..uh.
Madurai Mani, MS, Maharajapuram Vishwanathaiyar et al have given very very few albums in Carnatic Songs than UK, NithyaSree. Hence you say they are not great!!!
Greatness is not measured with popularity. If that is the case I'm afraid Laloo yadav, Jayalalitha, Karunanidhi are greater than Mahatma Gandhi :-)
But definitely, as of now, ARR is more popular amongst the Public and in cine-field than IR.
BTW, is this any way related to topic? if so how? I think we misunderstood the topic, it is CO-PARED and not Compared.
IMO, The composing style of IR and ARR are drastically different. The combo's product will be pathetic or will not be that much good (in optimistic way of putting).
IR is a thinker of music, he conceives music entirely in his mind and brings out notes, this is his way of composition. ARR experiences every bit of music by ear; takes lots of pain to modify & refine; chooses instruments; mixes it etc. So how can these two be copared.
It was possible in the case of IR and MSV. Because their's was a traditional way of composing. They became a great pair like MSV-TKR. But I cannot imagine such an outcome from IR-ARR, for that matter ARR cannot be copared with any one.
