IR_fan,IR,
I played that song again and feel the same.I_R fan,the 1st line I think DOES show Ri in the aarohanam-listen to it carefully.
Also,I found many other lines with Ri/Dha:teenage-llaaee...goes like:SaRiNiSaGa.....
In the "briga"(pesa pidikkallayae..) in the charams shows the swaras:DaSaNiNi...Da
There were many more that I found which I'm not able to recollect,as the song is new to me.
So,cud Ilayaraaja have incorporated "foreign" swaras in so many lines keeping Shuddha Dhanyasi in mind?So I still feel it was not intended to be Shuddha Dhanyasi.
But I also feel that it was not intended to be Abheri either,as IR said,it does not have strong reasons to be so.Well.....I dunno..
IMO,the song is too mediocre to be given so much importance-if u hear it at 1 go,u won't even feel its Raaga-based.

Hello sinduja
Is the song "Cninna chinna mazhai thuligal serthu vaipen naan. Chakravaagamo, Mazhaiyai arunthumaam naan chakravaaga paravai aaveno" from the movie "En Swasa Kaatre" is based on ckakravaagam raagam

Chinna chinna...:What I think is:-
1st line:Abheri,2nd line(i.e from "sakkaravaana...):Madhyamaavati,the charanams:Shankarabharanam(but showing Ni2)
Wow!What a kalakkal!!!
- From: Prabhu (@ 202.88.152.159)

thats really is a great kalakkal

"shankarabharanam with Ni2" is what i think the song is.
- From: IR (@ 4.62.116.150)
on: Sun Mar 17 20:28:43 EST 2002
Oh a real kalakkal - thanks for pointing this out guys! I guess if you do not pay attention to the song it sounds like an ordinary song!!!! But it is indeed a kalakkal - of ragams!!!!
Heard Chinna chinna mazhai thuligal just now - looks like it starts off in ShankarabharaNam - with gentle Harikhambodi touches (ni2)
Pallavi is in Madhyamavathi
CharaNam 1 is again in ShankarabharaNam with Harikhambodhi at the end.
CharaNam 2 is in SriRagam!!!!!!
Wonderful!
- From: IR_Fan (@ 202.88.152.159)
on: Mon Mar 18 02:24:12 EST 2002
Is this the same old IR? Never seen such an excited response from IsaiRasigai before :-)). U r right, within a single line in charanams, ARR alternates between Harikhambhodi (Ni2) and SB (nI3). :-) Can anyone point out more such "kalakal of ragas" ?
- From: Sindhuja (@ 203.197.182.91)
on: Mon Mar 18 06:14:08 EST 2002
1 more GREAT(not in the +ve sense) kalakkal I think is Kannathil mutthamittaal. What a "musical digression" if I can call it!(Kaapi+Darbari Kaanada-pallavi,from enadu sondam neeye...-God knows what raaga it is-sounds vaguely like hamsaanandi(but also has M1,R2-which hamsaanandi doesn't include))
pallavi-kkum charanathhukkum suttamaa samandam illai, which is why I don't like that song.
But another song -kala-kala.....from Rhythm(by Sadhna Sargam),though involving 2 entirely different raagas(Shankarabharanam and Kaapi)is I think very pleasant to hear.

on: Mon Mar 18 06:17:51 EST 2002
BTW,how comw no one has mentioned Abheri in "chinna chinna mazhaithuligal.."-the 1st line goes like-PaPaNiSaRiSaNiDaPaPaNiMaPa,SaSaGaMaPaMaGaRiSaSaGa
NiSa.Doesn't this give the feel of Abheri?

"pallavi-kkum charanathhukkum suttamaa samandam illai, which is why I don't like that song.
"
Sindhuja, I share the same opinion..unfortunately ARR does this quite a bit these days..even in "snehidhane", "porkalam enge", the continuity between pallavi and charanam wasnt there
- From: Sindhuja (@ 203.200.1.174)
on: Mon Mar 18 11:06:02 EST 2002
yeah, snehidane is another apt eg.-I like the beginning a lot,but again, the connection is totally lost in the charanams-doesn't sound good.
- From: IR (@ 4.62.116.150)
on: Mon Mar 18 11:51:30 EST 2002
I am not sure about the song that Sindhuja is referring to from KM, but Snehidhane sounds pretty decent. He changes raga in the charaNam - to me it sounds more interesting than a predictable pallavi like score in the charaNams... but, I feel there is a "method to his madness" in this song... summa kidaichcha note ellam vaasikkamayaavadhu irukkaare! I sometimes feel songs like this, once in a while, are refreshing than smooth flowing melodies...
Just my opinion!!
- From: Sindhuja (@ 203.197.176.51)

IR,I'm referring to the song KM itself.

i.e Nenjil jil jil...

on: Mon Mar 18 23:34:26 EST 2002
vijay & sindhuja, "Snehidhane" is a perfect example. IMHO, the song's pallavi & charanam seem disconnected, and charanam just doesn't melt sweetly into pallavi again. But a "kalakkal" of ragas neverthless !!.
IR, u r right, atleast there is not a mindless mix of swaras. But in "snehidhane", the chorus bit (and whatever the lyrics, just cudn't grasp) breaks the melody created by female voice's lines.

Can you tell me the raga of Snehidane song???
- From: Sindhuja (@ 203.200.1.212)
on: Tue Mar 19 06:11:07 EST 2002
Snehidane-saramathi+shades of sindhubhairavi
Charanams-mohanam,shivaranjani,back to charamati.
Is that right guys?
- From: IR (@ 4.3.191.17)
on: Tue Mar 19 07:02:48 EST 2002
that would be right Sindhuja..
Let me listen to the other song you mentioned - is that the one by Jeyachandran? :-)
- From: Sindhuja (@ 203.200.5.196)
on: Tue Mar 19 11:08:07 EST 2002
IR,which one?Nenjil jil jil..?
If its this one then it doesn't matter if its by Jayachandran or Chinmayi, coz both have the same tune.
And what do u mean by "Let me listen to the other song you mentioned"?Don't tell me u haven't listened to Kannathil muttamitthaal songs!!Or did u mean that u wanted to listen to it carefully so that u can decipher the raaga properly?!
- From: IR (@ 38.220.167.213)
on: Tue Mar 19 13:21:11 EST 2002
Sindhuja - ippadiya maanaththa vaanguveenga :-)
I heard KM songs as soon as they were released... to spot ragas, I need to listen carefully :-)
