I've seen this movie too, and realized the moment the scene appeared. ( What a terrible movie!) but, the movie was released in '96, and Muthu came in '95. i don't know if that piece of music is already popular in here, well before '95. if so, namma thalaivar has simply re-cycled!! Only knowledgible guys could confirm it!

Dhandapani, Nakeeran:
If you notice correctly - that music doesn't come as background music, that girl (or cat?) plays it in a audio system. And it is an island in Indonesia (near Java island I guess!). Probably it should have been some popular music in that area. Any tamilians in Indonesia or the surroundings can tell something abt this. But I am sure the music was very close. I strongly doubt the MD of Dr Moreau lifted from Muthu :-)

Regarding the Thillana Thillana Starting Piece
It is actually from a Deep Forest Album whose albums concentrate on each reigon on the world. Mukkala Muqabla ending drum piece is from Dr. Alban's song.

SA Rajumars song from "Poove Unakaga" , I think the song is Anantham Anantham is a direct lift from a starting instrumental piece in a song from "Bobby" called "Mujhe Kuch Kehna Hai"

Well I am a great admirer of rahman cause he gives such interesting music each time. I dont mind that here and there he copies bits of music to augment his song. In those terms, the song "telephone mani" from Indian is based on "all that she wants" from Ace of Base. The beat is very similar to the Bhangra version of "all that she wants" and the bass riff that runs through the song is a direct lift from "all that she wants".Now this is much better than entire song lifts

Padaiyappa songs review. (Fits into the copy topic pretty well)

Suthi Suthi
Fusion of Pachai Kilikal Tholodu (Indian) and Nila Kaikirathu (Indira). Pallavi of the song is 'Pachai kilikal' (Indian) and Saranam is 'Nila Kaikirthu' song of Indira. Even hardcore ARR fans can not deny this. Also this song remindes me of 'Sigappu lolakku kulunguthu kulunguthu' of film Kathal Kottai and also an old song 'Ennai kandu nee ... Unnai Kandu naan ... ..deepavali'. I must say that the female voice is good and inheriting the characters of S. Janaki. Even though a xerox copy song, still this is the best song in this movie.

Singa Nadai Pottu
Credit goes to Deva for forcing ARR to compose in his style ('Athanda ithanda' of Arunachlam and 'Naan autokaaran' of Basha). Interlude is from another song of same movie.
3
Minsara Kanna
Carnatic based and definitely a good attempt. Female voice is high pitched and goes flat in most of the places throughout the song. By the by what do they mean by 'Minsara Kanna' (means 'electric kanna'). To me, the female voice is unbearable. I am sorry I have absolutely no carnatic background. Feel like listening to Sundarambal after a long time. I also felt ARR must have used Hariharan as male lead voice

Oh o o Kikku Eruthu
Copy of 'Aayirathil naan oruvan' of film Iruvar (also reminds me of 'Konji Konji malargal aada' from Rajini's movie. Philosophical song in style of 'Oruvan Oruvan Mudhalali'. I like the 'thatha nane' of interlude very much.

Vaazhkaiyil Ayiram
Reminds me of 'Romeo Aattam potta' song. This song deserves no mention
ARR mastered Ctrc-C, Ctrl-V of his own songs previously but not so successfully now. ARR gave so many good tunes to many ears. He better takes his own time to compose instead of accepting many offers and turing out trash (Another example is film 'Jodi'). He himself said it takes lot of time to compose unlike IR whom people say compose songs for any situation instantly. If ARR is not serious, he will become one more Vedha! (Not Deva. I consider Deva is much better MD. He must have copied but accepted that fact unlike others!)

Hi Srini,
Come on.Do not compare ARR with Deva and Vedha.I think Rehman is above all of them. Also it is not a question of Deva influencing ARR to compose the song.It is all because of Rajni that ARR has gone into his shell since his creative freedom has been hampered.BTW whatever u say,it has sold 1 million cassettes here and cassettes are being sold at black-ticket prices.
Bye

Recently while watching Roja, there was a BGM when Arvind Swamy comes back after Vaishnavai asks him to refuse her as bride.
I was shocked to listen as it was same interlude/tune in Indian's Telephone ManipOl..(1st stanza)
Many of the BGMs in early ARR movies has been used by himself in newer songs. I am not able to recollect right away

Makkals,
Today morning, I tuned in to Konkani AIR Station (here in GOa) and was listening to some Hindi songs - while I lazily dozed off, suddenly I heard a very very familiar humming /chorus - it was a song sung by KJesudoss and the chorus humming was the theme score in the interludes and the prelude - naanum yenga idhai kettaen idhukku munnaadinnu mandaiyai pitchukittaen - unfortunately I could not even know the name of the movie from which the song was being played - later, it struck me solid as to where I have heard the same TUNE that was the CHORUS HUMMING in that Hindi song - from "THIRUDAA THIRUDAA"
----"Raasathhi yen usuru yennudhillai-----MMMMMMMM;
Poocchhoodi vaakkapattu pora pulla----MMMMMMMMMM;"
The chorus that comes in the interludes is
exactly the same as that of the Hindi song I heard - now, of late KJY has not sung many songs in Hindi - so , the song I have heard must have come at least 10 years ago, right ?!
If that is the case, ARR's "ingenuity" stands even more exposed than before - IMO, "Raasaathhi" was the most soothing song in THiruda Thiruda and I thought it was one of ARR's most original ones ! But now, it just seems to be another skeleton to have tumbled out from ARR's cupboard....
Unless, of course, the Hindi song I have heard sung by KJY had come after THiruda Thiruda, which I very sincerely doubt....

isn't it from daayra, which came pretty recently?
- From: Madhan (@ 202.41.117.101) on: Sun May 2 11:53:04 EDT 1999
BB: is it the one directed by Amol Palekar MDed by Anand-Milind ? I don't think so - but in Daayra, AM have "skilfully" used ARR's tune "Thenkizhakku Cheemaiyila" from Kizhakku Cheemaiyile !!
- From: bb (@ bernstein.crhc.uiuc.edu) on: Sun May 2 22:14:27 EDT 1999
oh, now the catchword is "skillfully used", is it:))))))

Ragav,
Don't be too shocked about back ground pieces
being turned into full fledged songs in later movies.
What is so bad about that ? (If it makes it acceptable to some people,) IR himself has done
it quite a few times..

hi,
Long back I had asked if the bgm in Roja (comes when Arvindsamy after taking bath comes and kisses Madhu on her shoulder, and few other situations), was copied or original. When I heard it for the first time itself, it looked very familiar. But still I couldn't get it. No one had answered this question due to some fight going on that time :-)

Hey,
I am confused a lot!! I heard the song 'Dheivam Inru' of Manam Virumbudhe Unnai from http://members.tripod.com/~newmovies/songs/dheaivam.ram just now. Isn't it exact copy of Singam Inru Purappattadhe of Arunachalam? Why is this from IR? !!!
