About that Jaishankar song... do you at least
remember some words from the pallavi? I am
curious to find out the song you're referring to.

shankar:
it is sayyOni by Junoon and not lucky ali.
Ragapriyan:
Regarding Jagjit singh.. the album is by Jagjit singh and his wife chitra singh (i will give the name of the album later...)
the tune for the first lines of the charanams of indha manrathil...(the line is..vanna malargalil charugAnAl) are exactly the same...

True, it's by junoon. I got confused with the song

Shankar,
can you please give me the songs from harichandra and of lucky ali... i personally feel that lucky ali is one of healthy and decent players in the indipop industry..

The song enna idhu kanava is copied from lucky ali's album. I dont remember the number but the song has lucky ali as a traveller.

Hello
In ARR's latest DSKR, there is a song "Kheva re kheva.." The Charanam's last line very closely resembles the last line of the charanam from the song 'Kaatril enthan geetham...' from jhonny.
I feel this is not an intentional effort by ARR to copy but illustrates how Raja's music has influenced many other MD's who have followed him including ARR.

Doli Saj title song has lot of influence from 'inji iduppazhaga'

Hi haris
I did not write about Kheva re kheva...resembling Kutchi kutchi... because it has already been said somewhere, it is obvious and it is ARR's own. However I did say in another thread that the whole album itself is not upto ARR's standards. Also I would like to add that Sukhvinder Singh has a very good voice and especially at high pitches it is just delightful.
I dont think anybody (before my note) wrote about the similarity of the charanams' last line in Kheva re Kheva.. resembling Katril enthan geethams'... charanams' last line.

Yes, the song BOL SAJNI from DSKR does have some shades of INJI IDUPPAZHAGA but that's about it. It can no way qualify for a copy.
And Haris, I think the Jagjit Song, "Hoton ko chhoo lo tum, mera geet amar kar lo" came much later (early eighties, I guess, starring Raj Babbar and Anita Raj) and apart from its second line, which does follow a similar pattern as the "Mandrathil Odi Varum" song, there's no similarity. I think it will be silly to say that Jagjit Singh copied AM Raja (who I think is the MD of Policekaran Magal). It's probably one of those coincidences where a line or two sound similar.
Cheers!

And I forgot to add one point above:
Haris, why is that you doubted A.M.Raja's Tamil number and not Jagjeet Singh?
By the way, last week I heard an English song, which sounded very much like a remixed version of Ottagathai Kattikko. I know for sure it isn't a remix, but, can anyone throw more light on this song? Has anyone heard this one?
(I'll be proud if this one turns out to be a copy of ARR's number!, after all, imitation is .... )

I never said either of them was copied from the other. I know that it only a coincidence and a beutiful one... (I specifically mentioned that the onlythe first lines of the charanam sounded the same.
Look at this;
pAdungO... Bol sajna(indha rendu vArthai mattum...) AachA...? ippO pAdungO... chembaruthi poovu..(film chembaruthi..)(only those 2 words..)
you got it?

One of the few occasions when you were way off.
Indha Mandraththil had nothing to do with AM Raja.
For one, it was sung by PBS and Janaki. Also MD of Policekaran Magal were MSV-TKR.
Doesnt matter anyway.
Keep up the good work

ARR has been heavily inspired by one pankaj Udhas' ghazal songs which goes like "some sharAb" which has resulted in this one of his good numbers in "Eh ajnabi" from dilsE.
esp in those hi-pitches.

Neels: I too agree about Bol Sajni, it has had the Inji Iduppu influence, but I also agree that it cannot be considered a copy, there are similarities and many differences. As for the Ottagathha Remix, I know that it hit the Charts in France(The Tamil version, would you believe), so it may well have an English song loosely based on it. I must say, a lot of my European friends really liked it.

Vandemataram U.S release has a new song based on "ottagatha kattiko". It is sung by A.R.Rahman and has some hip hop touch. The song is mostly English plus some hindhi. Good arrangement.

In Response to Eden,
SAR's Rosappoo Chinna Rosappoo, Pallavi is lifted from "Kuyile Kuyile Kuyilakka" - En Bommukkutti Ammavukku and in Saranam he lifted from the Saranam of "Kuyile Kuyile Poongkuyile" - Aanpaavam.

These guys do so much of cut-and-paste and ultimately it looks like a collage. One thing, they are clever enough (or knowledgeable enough) to take advantage of the naive listeners!

Friends,
I have a small doubt. The starting drum piece in the song annathae aaduraar (apoorva sagotharargal) aand the drum bit before the pallavi in the song vandhenda palkaraen (annamalai) sound almost the same though the MD's are different. Can someone clarify for me.

Sridhar Seetharaman,
Is there any site where I can get access to the ARR's VandeMataram US version? I would love to listen to the special number. I wonder why he included it ONLY for the US release though!

Hi friends,
I strongly feel that when you sing 'Kalam kaththale, oru velai illame' song from Solla thudikkudu manasu in HIGH PITCH, it will 100 % sound like 'Arabi Kadaloram Alagai Kandene' of Bombay.
Anybody to support this fact ?

That I would call `recycle', Dhands, and you know, ARR is a master in recycling (someone said very `eco friendly MD'). Ever heard Alisha's `Made in India' (by Biddu)? This got recycled by ARR in Kaadal Desam (Ennai Kanavillaye Netrodu...)

3. Sayyoni - Salomia ( who else - deva) Kannedhirae thondrinal.
4. Sayyoni - En anbae (S.A.R) Thulladha manamum thullum)

There is crappy start for the Muthu song "Thillana thillana". But I am afraid to say that it is not ARR's creation(!). It was lifted from some Indonesian music!! Last year when I was in Bangalore, some slightly old English film (The Island of Dr.Moreau) was released (Marlon Brando). In that, I got stunned to hear the same music, for which Dr.Moreau's daughter will be dancing! If any of you get a chance to see that movie, please confirm this. Engirundhu copy adikkarangappa!!!

you are correct Murali.
I too watched that horrible movie in '96; I too realized ARR's copy. That tune was well matching to Dr Moreau's daughter (cat) character!
