Vidhyasagar: Making Quiet Waves

In the crowded bazaar of TFM MDs, I feel Vidhyasagar has carved out a unique style for himself. Starting from Nila Pennae, he has quietly contributed a steady flow of melodies.

His "Malarae Mounamaa" a haunting melody by SPB and SJ brought him some much deserved praise. SPB sings it in every one of his concerts. I would like to know more about his other efforts besides the two or the big hits like Priyam or Karna.

  Vidyasagar is on the "Run" again in tamil cinema. After a wonderful 2001 with hits after hits he is composing music to many tamil movies. I call him "A.R Rahman no.2" he has talent but every one know he could do better than he performs. I have been VS fan since i heard Karna and Jeyhindh i hope he's bad luck in tamil movies will end. LAst year Dhill, Povellam Un Vaasam and Alli thantha Vanam were running well in theatres. Watch out for his forthcoming movies Anbe Sivam. Dhool, Pallavan, Iyarkai and Anbu.

  I was very disappointed with Vidyasagar's score for 'Villain'. It could have been anyone's score: SAR or Sirpy or Mani Sharma. Nothing VS about it, except for the 'malare maunama' kind of song, 'orey manam'. In Adiyil kaathadichaa he has copied a popular IR song.

  When we talk about VS we only talk about his hits.
  When he gave RUN, in the same length he gave karmegam which had horrible songs and it bombed. VK's Thavasi also had some worst songs.
  Now the Villian..though seems to do nicely in theatre, has no good songs compared to RUN. What is this "Hey Lamo Lamo" humming. Could have been better.
  
  But all MD's other that ARR are very lucky. Their flop albums are forgotten soon. See the baba album , whci is a flop for many here, the thread is still active. People still bash ARR.
  What is a hit? The thing that you coolly forget and put under carpet or the thing that you remember a lot and spoil your night sleep?...
  
  Don't worry I will not post further here...I just wanted to point out some irony here.

  Lots of Vidhya Sagar's music resembles IR's 80 music. Even my Dad who is 65 year old could tell that. Other day i was watching the malayalam movie "Niram". There is a song which starts exactly like "Oru Raagam Padalodu" from the movie Ananda Raagam.

  That song is "Mizhiariyathe Vannu njyan" by Yesudas..the pallavi resembles "Oru raagam"...

  We can't demand music composers compose music exactly like we want to. Try to compose music nowadays and see how hard it is to get success. Every musicians have flops and hits, it is obvious we rather remember the good tunes rather than the bad tunes. The musicdirectors are only composing like the porducers and directors want them to.
  
  Why don't we just drop the songs in the movies and see.....

  don't say most resembles to ir music ... they might have a similar style ..may be the songs are in same ragam or some wht ...but vs copying from ir is rediculous ..i can't believe as mallu tht he created a lot of buzz in mallu already like ir did in the 80's mallu ..and ir did a lot of albums in mallu ...and most of the mallus like me listened to his tamil-mallu songs in the 80s ...

  I listened to both songs. I consider them very different. Infact I feel Vidyasagar's song resembles a song from Illayaraja's in the 80s.

  Well, Dhool is very ordinary for VS standard. Ithanondu Muthatthil is very similar to previous tunes. Other dappankuthu numbers are not memorable like Run songs. Asai Asai is the one that stands out in this project by VS.

  heyyyyyy,,,once again vidya scored good tunes for DHOOL which has all the qualities of being a mega hit.songs are very apt for the vikram film and folk songs r nice.
  ITHUNOONDU is very nice and different like in arjun films.folk songs r good and sure will make everyone in the theatre to dance.bhangra song also feels superb but reminds daud song but OK.
  GUNDU GUNDU is superb and
  ASAI ASAI is a good melody.
  A WORTH ALBUM TO HEARRRRRRRRR.

  ASAI ASAI is a great tune to listen. I don't think it reminds of unsamayal arayil.
  KUNDU KUNDU will be played a lot in the discoteques it a nice song but with bad lyrics
  ITHANDA KAPPAKILANGU sounds very funny with the "shake it", i don't think it will become a hit.
  ITHUNUNDO is a typical VS song he had composed many similar tunes like this song.
  DHOOL reminds a lot of Dhaler Mehndi songs maybe manickam's voice fit perfectly to this type of songs.
  MADHURAIVEERAN is total waste. Why? VS Why?

  I don;t understand why so many people slate vidheyesegar. I think he has produced some great songs. my favourites being
  in Poovellam Un vasam and vedham. I am from London and songs from Snehithiye (vidhyesegar) were popular a couple of years back amongst Tamilans, BUT I have never seen this film or its songs mentioned on forums. Has anyone not heard of this film. The film is brilliant and some of the songs are really great too eg. Radhai Manathil, Devadhai Vamsam. Hasn't anyone heard this?? Well if you havn't you must! The film is brilliant too. Another song that I really like is Nee Katru from the movie Nilave Vaa. Quite frankly, I don't care if Vidhyesegar has copied songs from the past, so long as he provides the tamil film industry with some great and enjoyable music, which I strongly feel that he has done.
