Vidhyasagar: Making Quiet Waves

In the crowded bazaar of TFM MDs, I feel Vidhyasagar has carved out a unique style for himself. Starting from Nila Pennae, he has quietly contributed a steady flow of melodies.

His "Malarae Mounamaa" a haunting melody by SPB and SJ brought him some much deserved praise. SPB sings it in every one of his concerts. I would like to know more about his other efforts besides the two or the big hits like Priyam or Karna.

  IMO, he is the only music director in tamil industry who has a solid backup in carnatic and western at present. In fact, he has proved time and again that he can produce fantastic melodies which will haunt. The problem with him is that he does not get films that click.

  Nice music from VS in 2001 - catchy and melodious songs in Snegithiye, Dhill, Poovellam..., Thavasi, etc.
  
  Ref. AV article, anybody knows the musical background of Vidyasagar?
  Has he composed any WCM-based songs in Tamil/Mallu?
  I can think of only the Ballet music song from Snegithiye.

  VS is a very good music director but very unlucky one. All his recent songs are well above IR songs but not much talked about. I think directors should dump IR and switch to VS (Vidhyasagar is the MD for a new film to be directed by K Balachander) to bring some meaningful songs out.

  yah ofcourse........VS is one of my all time fav. he has that intuition of creating the magic of melodies which i see in him often. and which i see in raaja's music always..........again this is not say arr is bad..........he is another gem in producing melodies..... but personally i feel VS is bit unlukcy. he is no less than wat he is projected.

  I myself have become a fan of VS of late. the 3 songs of his which made me like him a lot are malare mouname (karna) - ofcourse best of the lot, nee kaatru (nilave vaa) and un samayalaraiyil (dhil). ofcourse it is another matter that all the 3 have some similarities!
  it is not fair though to compare with IR or ARR imo. wait till ARR's and VS's career are over and then look at stat sheet or whatever, for now just appreciate folks! (IR and MSV are my all time favorites btw)

  VS is a big time copier. He has copied several punjabi numbers from Balli Saagoo and Gurdas Singh mann.

  unhit past engllish albums i have proof for allo
  this items bcoz my dad is avery good music lover he has all kinds of alltime albums.now also
  in the new kannathil muthamittal,the song "VELLAIPOOKAL" is having the same base music as
  "poovukkellam siragu mulaithathu"song.this is his time now.no one can appreciate another music director other than him even he scores bad music,

  Vidyasagar is a very good musician and a master of fusion . He has done a Malayalam album called 'Millenium Stars' which is fusion at it's best . He's done everything one would want to do . In the next album 'Devadoodhan' , he's managed to transform a krithi into a pseudo-symphony managing to give it an authentic feel of a western composition at the same time highlighting it's Indian roots . In another popular Mohanlal film , he's effortlessly brought in "Mendelssohn's" Wedding March , I'd never call this a copy , this is what I'd call genuine inspiration . Anybody want's more info on a lot of Vidyasagar's unknown but good works , please feel free to mail me , I'd be glad to reply . Kudos to all these good musicians .

  Vidhyasagar has been working with Raja In 80's he also can play a variety of music instrument's ..
  u can listen raja's jeevan in Din Din thara song frm film Poovelam un vaasam the song also inspired frm the song Enode Pathe padengal -Idhaya Geetham
