wn, sabesan,
sorry for interfering into ur business. but why are u people getting tensed so soon? just happened to read both ur comments.
so wn started with "Did, ahem, ARR's seniors ever spare a word in praise for him?...I wonder. :)"
from sabesan's answer it is quite clear that he didn't like wn's 'I wonder.' he even mentioned that again in one of his following messages: 'talking about intention - hello maam, i sure know what ur intention was when u posted "I wonder".... cut the crap right.....'
the question now is, how to 'take' wn's 'I wonder.' was she actually saying 1)'arr respects his seniors and juniors, but his seniors never did that' or is it the way she explains it later in another message: 2)'my statement I wonder.. was to get responses quoting exact instances...'
now another thing comes to the whole thing: it was not just 'I wonder' but 'I wonder. :)' ...a smiley. well what does a smiley mean here? is it supporting theory 1), like 'ha, i wonder if any senior ever praised poor arr and his fellow juniors' (like accusing them) or is it supporting a third theory which simply says 'NOM' (we all know what those 3 letters mean, don't we?)?
why being so rude in your messages for such silly matters? is it because of both ur past in this forum as old warriors word-fighting on each and every topic? is it like with the animals out there in the jungle, who can't show a bit of weakness cause their enemies would sense that and tear them off?
'discussions', as u call it, in this forum would be a perfect object of study for some researchers on human behaviour (how do humans behave when communicating with other humans anonymously?) i mean, right at this moment i could just insult anyone here with the most indecent four letter words known in human history, and i wouldn't have to fear any consequences for my bad behaviour. why is it so? why can't people keep the decency they would keep when they talked in real life? or is this forum a playground for the mischievous child sitting deep in all of us?
or wait, am i the one who is taking all this too serious? are u now reading all this and laughing at me?
well, talking about this arr praising or insulting his seniors, as far as i know arr is famous for his humble character. now sabesan said he remembers arr saying in a interview 'I have not heard IR's songs'. the question is, how is this possible as we all know, like wn said, from arr's bio that he has worked under ilayaraja etc. and we too know who ilayaraja is, don't we? at least in the 80s he dominated tamil music scene (now please don't tell me that he actually did it also in the 70s and 90s etc. just said 80s to summarize it into a decade). so we can say for sure arr has heard ilayaraja's songs. so why did arr say that he hasn't heard IR's songs? is disrespect the only argument that comes into one's mind? and that even from a man with arr's reputation. can't u just think of another very, very simple explaination? perhaps it was just a joke...perhaps the interviewer asked him a silly question like 'have u heard IR's song?' and he just answered humoursly 'no, i haven't heard IR's songs.' can't u think of such a simple explaination for this? not only simple, but so common in every-day life....why first assume that it was meant negatively?
well, i too think that its all a matter of ego clash. even if there's something right in the counterpart's argument, u just can't give up that easily...cause that's a sign of weakness, isn't it? just as i told before with animals..it's the same there, they just can't give up that easily...
at last i would like to add 3 letters to my message: NOM

sabesan, i hadn't read ur last 2 messages when writing my first.
'he said that he has not heard IR music, and IR said back "i have never heard Chinna Chinna AAsaaai" song....'
okay, both of the said that, but are u also really sure that both actually meant that in bad taste as u believe? or was it just that they were making fun of each other (in a positive way, don't know the english expression for that kind of 'making fun')? i haven't heard of such an incidence, so can't judge it. but i am strongly assuming and hoping that it was just fun. i mean who knows in which context both of them said that?
NOM

This is yet another incident of ARRs sheer humility and respect towards his seniors. Not many months ago, the Indian Express had a front-page interview with ARR, wherein he candidly said this:
"Ilayaraaja Sir can never be replaced. I owe a lot to this sheer genius. He is a class by himself".
This shows that ARR gives due repsect to his mentors, unlike some of the MDs of his generation
(e.g.: Annu Mallick) who keep on bragging about their "achievements". Despite the accolades won by ARR, he is so very level-headed.
Such incidents prove that ARR is not only a fantastic MD, but a great person as well!

raycas, thx for ur post.
I did not get tensed up bcos of the argument itself, but the attitude of the arguer. When the same person argues wit u in every thread regarding any topic u post abt, it goes to show tat the person is doing it not in the spirit of the argument, but bcos they have an axe to grind, a personal point to prove.
And it gets worse when the person cant offer even one valid evidence to back themselves and when having failed thus, digress and talk abt personal differences to distract from the main point of argument.
I have more examples abt ARR, will post later.

Sabs..(if I am allowed to called like that ,,Mr. Sabesan):
I think the problem with you and many IR fans is that they have a preconcieved notion about ARR that he does not respect any of his seniors. One of the reasons for this could be a natural hared towards that MD itself. But, the problem is this . Many IR fans still believe that ARR disrespects IR. I remember this same issue came into the forum atleast an year before. Then weeks later an interview flashed in a news paper (May be IE as quoted here in this thread), that settled the issue. Then an other issue where ARR was quoted as saying IR as 'GUY'. For a month the qrgument continued...
But frankly tell me...having known ARR's nature and humility do you think he would have meant any thing which you have assumed that ARR said about IR.
I exactly remember what you are quoting here. ARR said that he doesn't listen to IR's music..right. It came in "The Hindu" or AV I think. It was for a question that how does he compose music and from what songs does he gets inspired from...some thing like that.
As a young MD and new to the field what do you expect him to answer..to say "Ya I always listen to IR music..morning/noon/night"
The magazine would have stated sasying from the next issue that ARR copies IR outrightly...probably ARR wanted to avoid that confusion ....And also we exactly don't know what ARR said and what was published in the columns...so...how come ARR stands guilty for this...?

Prabhu - Sabs & Aalavandhaan are damn enemies :-).... like the "Kadvul paadhi, mirugaam Paadhi" :-)...
and AY- thanks a lot (and nor probs in calling Sabs - "what is there in a name")..... well, atleast, there is some "proof" to whatever i said..... quoted wrongly, understood wrongly or whatever..... my point was "he said that"..... and i really never wanted to post anything, (wow, that would have been very nice of u sabesan) - except for the small "trigger".....

Everyone will be happy IF:
ARR says "Ilayaraaja Sir can never be replaced. I owe a lot to this sheer genius. He is a class by himself".
AND:
IR says "ARR have brought tremendous but useful changes to the TFM after my years".
ELSE:
IR & ARR fans will continue the cold war.
The rules are:
10. You see what you wanted to see.
20. What you see is what you get.

Question: Your success is highly attributed to the fact that you sound different from Ilayaraaja. How do you manage that?
ARR's answer: I take great pains to sound different from IR. I dont even listen to IR's songs to avoid getting inspired by his style.
This was the context in which ARR said, "I dont listen to IR's songs". And our sensation-maniac-journalists published it in maalai murasu (or the like) in kottai ezhuththu.
This is as far as my memory goes
