I listened to VandeMatharam in which ARR recycled his own tunes from Kizhakku Ceemayile and a touch of a song from Indira.
Also ARR's recent movies for big time producers like Ratchagan and Iruvar (except one song) and Dhoud in Hindi did not have any notable music. Remember ARRs last hit Minsarak Kanavu music was done long time ago.
If for a major album for Sony released on 50th year of Indian Independence, ARR cannot produce original music, then I have to come to the conclusion that he is running out of stuff. I heard that ARR is planning to cut down on movies and concentrate more on albums. Thus he will have to produce less and earn more.
Right now I do not see any difference in the quality of music produced by ARR and Karthik Raja. In fact I think Deva is doing a better job of providing consistant good quality music.

Srinath,
Thanks for the English lesson.
Similar to the "Foot in the mouth" phrase, "head in the 'expletive'" is another way of saying a person is stuck up, that's all I was saying. But you are the one who misunderstood it.
I use it to describe IR fans who are ignorant and patronize ARR fans, because they have a different taste.
Now this is the first time I am doing this, but would it be correct to say "You have your foot in your mouth" (because you thought I misunderstood what you said and said something vulgar, but it was you who misunderstood)?

Dear Thanee,
How is that ?
" almost 90-95% of ARR's songs were top of the chart music in more than one language" -
Do you know that Daler Mehndi , the king (?????!!!!!!!!!!!!) of Indi Pop, makes more money in one show than what Beethoven would have made in his entire life and DM is definitely more popular than Beethoven, at least in India.
Do you know that Charles Sobraj ( the guy who killed 18 girls), on any day, is more popular than Ms.Kiran Bedi, who single handedly rebelled against the acrimonius authorities to bring back some semblance of sanity to the police force ?
Do you know that on any day, Bandit Queen is better known among the villages of North India, than, Swami Vivekananda ?
Do you know that ............. I can go on -
but it might be considered a digression from this thread -
"Guru failed to impress a majority" - now you have touched a very sensitive issue - if you had generally talked about music , fine, but you have specifically mentioned "GURU" - that either smacks of absolute ignorance of quality or maybe your head is in the same orifice as that of Mr.Ram's !!
So here we are not talking about quality, the core point is "popularity" , right ?
In that context, ARR's music is as popular , nay as notorious as Charles Sobraj, as infamous as Bandit Queen and as unasthetically created ( if at all it were created !) as Daler Mehndi's works.
So, even in your subconscious mind, you seem to be wholeheartedly agreeing that Raja's music is superior in quality, but not as popular as ARR's music, right ??!!
"YAANAI PADUTTHAALUM KUDHIRAI MATTAM "
But the ARR horse is more glitteringly and gaudily decorated, giving the wrong impression that it is taller than the Elephant !
"UYARA UYARA PARANDHAALUM, OOR KURUVI PARUNDHAAGA MUDIYAADHU"
But the ARR "Kuruvi" is riding the wings of popularity propelled by the Satellite television and is trying to fly higher , but goes back to the "cut and paste, stick and paste" station for refuelling.

Thanks Mr Thanee for reinstating what I have posted sometime back in one of the threads - that ARR is someone like Videocon while Deva is the Indian dealer of Aiwa. Yes, he is a master in technology trasfer (TT) which needs only localisation expertise but no design stuff. That is what precisely what the title of the thread is.
Well, all the guys including HCARR fans now seem to agree that this guy is running out of original stuff and needs `Suzuki' taking the major stake.

SM,
if u put daler mehendi in the category of Charles Sobraj and bandit Qn then ARR certainly deserves a place in that elite group

Shankar,
I didn't put Daler Mehndi with these people. Admitted, I was not clear in that posting. I considered Daler Mehndi as a separate entity and the other two as another entity. It is not correct to group DM and ARR with thse two criminals. And, I won't include ARR with DM also. ARR is definitely far better than DM. All the above, IMO.

I thought the song "chakravagamo" was similar to ARR`s earlier one "nan kattum selai" from ellorum innattu mannar???

It has been noted that ARR has atleast one song in most of his albums which is based on classical music. ARR's "Yen veetu thotathil poovellam kettu paar" in Gentleman is a take off from a popular thirupugazh song "naada vindu kaladhee namo nama!". Both are tuned to Senjuruti ragam, but the tunes of the first four lines are exactly the same! Is this a "lift" or an "inspiration" ??

I'm a zero as for knowledge on carnatic unlike many of you guys. However, my ear finds some resemblence of `Sundari neeyum' with `enn veetuththotaathil'. May be based on same raga or is it inspiration?

chandy,
IMO, inspiration is , when u listen to this song , u just get reminded of the one from which the MD got inspired. U won't have a one-to-one assoc with the original. In the case of copy , u'll be able to pin point where each lines fall and u can map them. U decide now :-)))

Thiruppugazh is a pure Tamil devotional work.
Are you sure the Nada Vindu composition is from Thiruppugazh?

You are right. In 'En Veettu Thottathil', the Pallavi is a lift from the above number. The rest of the song is different.

Neels, Thirupugazh is a set of devotional songs by Arunagirinadhar... tunes of many of these songs were composed in his period.. "Nada Vindu kalaadhe namo nama" is one such song. (Neels, I'm delighted to find you in this forum :) )
Shankar, The case I'm referring to is no inspiration.. its an exact replica. The song - nada vindu is set to paras of 4-lines each and the tune of each para is same. There is no pallavi, anupallavi kind of structure. The tune of Yen veetu thotathil (the first 4 lines) is an EXACT REPLICA" of "Nada vindu" song.. Its not that both these songs are based on similar raga and hence sound similar. In this case, it is not an inspiration, but a direct lift!!
Eden, the ragas of both the songs "yen veetu thotathil", and "sundari neeyum" are different. There is a slight similarity in the way they both begin.
