Folks,
There is this new movie called matrimonials.com. an independent movie in mini DV format(at the moment) that was made by a couple of my friends. I have scored the background score for this movie. I visit newtfmpage regularly and would like you to listen to the tunes and if possible send me your feedback at sureshshrinivas@hotmail.com.
You can find the music at www.mp3.com/suresh_shrinivas.
Hope you like it,
Suresh

All the best for your future projects too.
in anyway is that movie related to http://www.matrimonials.com
website?

Naveen,
Thanks for your encouragement.
The movie was called matrimonials.com initially and was screened at the first internationaal digital film festival in New Delhi on the 29th of March.
Actually I believe the movie name may be changed soon. It does not relate to the website apart from the fact that the topic of the movie is related to internet matrimonials.

hi folks,
I assume Suresh's statement as one representing your music making community.
rjay - I listened to your reggae in mohanam and train in appalachia.
reggae in mohanam is imho a composition which u would do sitting up straight from the bed without much thinking. I have heard a lot of your samples earlier and u are capable of putting up a better one. The tune is highly predictable and falls exactly in the beat. My suggestion is that u may try the same raga but go for a
(1) composition spanning atleast 2 full octaves with the swara pattern construction being more dificult to guess. In other words there needs to be a judicious mix of the upper and lower octave notes. In your present composition a particular octave's notes seem to line up. That would tell badly on the creativity. A good mix of the higher and lower octaves' swaras will allow you more room to innovate.
(or)
(2) a composition which goes to explore better rhythm structures in swaras. 1234 pattern itself can be twisted with some effort and thinking into better placement of swaras ( half beat, 3/4 beat etc...)...the tune is partly predictable because of the repeated usage of he same beat structure. It renders it a bit insipid.
(or)
(3) orchestration based. u can try to sit and think of adding more accompanying tunes and a better bass structure.
Train in appalachia !
NICE ! I liked it but a few observations regarding that too:
(1) usage of orchestral hits is jarring ! try a different instrument say a sustained electric guitar as used in Mustafa.
(2) the immediate soft guitar background that erupts after the finish of orchestral hits, is very much similar to IR's "kaNNan vandhu aadugindraan" :-) I know it is impossible to elminate the elements that we imbibe from the Maestro, but I am sure u are capable of making it better !
suresh - Is there a way I can listen to yours ?
Guys - this is not a loudmouth's bashing. Just purely my humble observations.

Reggae in Mohanam is my latest release at
http://www.mp3.com/rjay.
MS
That is the kind of criticism that helps us
grow. Thanks a lot for taking the time to listen
and write this. Please continue this.
Reg your comments on Reggae:
1. I will try to experiment more on the
Octave choice and also the melody-rhythm.
There is also another reason why these
problems came up. I wrote the lyrics for
this song first and tuned it to be sung
by lead man and his group. The ideas dictated the lyrics to me and the lyrics dictated the melody-phrase rhythms. I tried to keep the
melody line very simple and it became very simple!!! :o
The vocal
version (I am working on it) might
be better. I realize it was not a good
idea to release the instrumental version.
I will try to improve the orchestration too.
2. Train in appalachia:
I think you have commented on
"Horror and Healing". The Orchestral
hit is supposed to be jarring ;)
Try listening to Appalachia. Your review comments are welcome in this thread.
Thanks
