i think "copying" is there for a long time in tamil film history. Here we discuss the tamil songs copied from others.
1.Vedha:i know he always go for a hindi tune in his films(mostly for Modern theatres). No alterations! he just copy a full hindi song !
best examble:Manam ennum medai mele(Gil tho ye kulu yahag)
2.MSV: i hear that(from Sujatha's book"Neerkumiligal") "thulluvatho elamai" was a song copied from english to almost all famous indian langages. Is there any other songs MSV copied?
3.Illayaraja:Even the GOD of MUSIC Raja sir did some thing like this.He just used that "I love you"style from BOneyM Sunny for "darling darling"in priya.I have heard a totally same song like "Kanavu kanum valkkai yavum" in Hindi also.(i forgot the film).
and i dont know who is the MD for the song"ehu pal vadiyum mugam! ethai parpathu than sugam".But i heard the same song in an english film.
4.ARR : i was told from my friends that he did copying intelligently.drum beats and some music styels from cassettes like "enigma, ace of base".And the humming before the song "thillana thillana" is a 100%copy from the film"the island of Dr.Mozeru".
5.SA Rajkumar : a lot of help from hindi! best example "mallikai puve malligai puve parthaya" from "didi tera thevaru thevana"
5.DEVA:hee..hee..the master.(better we see how many songs he did on his own instead of seeing how many songs he copied!)
like wise there is a lot of songs are copied from Tamil to Hindi also..
Now its your turn friends....

bug,
It was bcos of balumahendra's insistence that Raja included that song and the same goes with boney M's song from priya (darling, darling ). this was told by SPB in an interview when the guy asked him every music director copies, even Raja has copied and quoted the latter for which SPB told the above quoted reason. It was in a kumudam.
This is the millionth time I'm telling this and ppl come back with the same claim all the time (sigh ) :-(

what is the source of 'endha poovilum vaasam undu". was it mozart/dvorak or someone else?
- From: Krishnamurthy (@ esclassau.ceatlabs.okstate.edu) on: Tue May 23 18:45:26 EDT 2000
Very-very slightly sounds like Spring Mov from Antonio Vivaldi's Four Seasons. It may be an inspiration - Definitely not a copy.

Vijay,
The actual source for "Endha poovilum vaasam Undu" if from a Spanish guitarist by name, Antonio Ruiz Pipo. I have that CD with me and that starting piece is a 100% lift, though Raaja develops the song on his own, after the starting piece.

Guru,
the tamil song actually does'nt have that much of a start. just 2 notes played continuously 4 times in guitar and then by the violins. Could the resemblance be just a coincidence?

Talking about copy, Deva has blatantly copied a popular Michal Jackson tune from 'Dangerous' in Kushi!

`sorgathin vAsal ingE' (SPB-VJ song from some remake film, I think by Devar films) by S-G is a intentional copy of MJ's Billie Jean. (Including the sounds that create the blues feeing)..Can someone help the panel with the samples?
There's a doubt, however, that Bappi Lahiri was the original stealer who passed on the shame also to TF!

enna enna vArthaikalO, chinna vizhippArvaiyilE (a PS stunner) is dangerously close to `By the rivers of Babylon' (BoneyM)...according to my hearing perception:-)
Since enna enna predates the west indian number, that too from an era of limited intercommunication inhibiting such exports, one explaination is both had a common ancestor (say a classical movement of a WCM guru)...
There's another explaination though (not serious), that is the cricket route (without involvement of bookies, ofcourse)... say Kumar or Venkat played the PS number to Andy Roberts who carried with him to the Jamaican band:-)

I got very curious after your posting and wanted

Is this the song you are referring to? I don't
see much similarity between the songs.. may be
I should listen to the song a few more times.

Have you heard a song from a Hindi movie called
Julie, which goes as.. My heart is beating, keeps
on repeating. 'By the rivers of Babylon' comes
a bit close to that song!

"ulagam engum orE mozi" - the starting line is the same as "By the rivers of babylon". But it came much before the Boney - m hit. SO does it imply something ? :-)

The first line of the pallavi of IR song is the same as the first line of the sharanam of aamir khan's song. the chord progression is very much similar.

Was listening to some megam karukkudhu song from 'kushi'(Md-Deva). He has beautifully blended the pallavi of 'dil deewana' and charnam of'kabhootar jaa jaa'(both from Maine pyaar kiya)
What an unique way of copying:))

Been to "Kushi" last week in Dallas. Usually its the movie that irks and irritates me (if its not good). But this time more than the movie it was Deva & Co. Does that person has any shame at all? How can he ridicuously copy like this? I was totally blown when a song started with MJ's "Dangerous" piece. Man hell with him and the directors who want such music in their movies. Long live creativity (soon to be forgotten)!!

Swami,
esp. when you happen to listen to those songs
with other state/nation guys. Its realy embaressing.
