A good singer and a friend of mine, Raja Govindarajan, met S.P.B at Chennai a couple of months back. During their conversation, SPB mentioned that he doesn't remember/have a lot of old rare songs that he has sung and would love to recollect them and have them in his collection. Raja then told SPB about newtfmpage and Song Of The Day section and the discussions that take place there. He then offered to give SPB a set of old songs.
Fast Forward to today; I prepared a set of 41 songs, and a 90 page booklet on the songs. All these songs are old SOTDs and the booklet contained the discussions on these songs. SPB came to the Bay Area today for a concert at Hayward. I met him at the backstage before the concert with Udhaya. We gave him the CDs and the booklet and talked with him for a few minutes. SPB was very courteous and thanked me several times. I was surprised that he made time to to even see us and accept this, just half an hour before the concert. I told him that we have a lot of knowledgeable people and huge collection of his songs, so if he wanted more we could give him whatever information he wanted.
The booklet that I gave him is here: http://www.dhool.com/sotd/spb.pdf .
The 3 CDs that I gave him included 4-5 more songs that are not in this list, like 'vaa ponmayilE', 'malarE ennenna kOlam' and 'thErOttam'.
Hopefully, if SPB goes through the CDs and the text, he will be impressed with the selection and would get back to me or RajaG with his comments.

my questions
1.How difficult was it for him to hide a emotion, he was going through and express a different emotion in the song that he was singing?.was there any instance where his emotional state enhanced or
decreased his rendering in a song.
2.How he dealt with Ego clashes at work?
3.About carnatic music?.Is it still a forte that he hasn't conquered?
4.Intresting incidents of competion with S.janaki?.
5.who will be the next SPB Among the new singers?.

the intent for question 2 was not a fight.it is preety much "what is the secret of his success".It is very hard for 2 south indians to get along at work. And it is bad if it involves 2 highly talented people.
Iam sure it is because of his humility, forgiving and tolerant nature. He is a great example of some one being highly talented and humane.Thought it would be great lesson for youngsters to hear it straight from the horse's mouth.that's all.
as far as 5) goes...
you have forgotten me :)

bb, did you have a chance to address the above questions to SPB? Expecting some interesting anecdotes/comments from SPB. Working styles of the big three in TFM and how SPB worked/communicated with each of them would be something that would interest many I believe. Some in-depth details from him or instances/examples with songs would be good if possible.
I cannot view the PDF file right now but still congrats on the solid effort. I hope your meeting with SPB was really worth all the work

I am responding to everybody on behalf of BB. We had a long conversation with SPB - very open, casual, and insightful. We have a "crude" recording (more than 300 MB) which we are trying to refine (not edit) so that we can present both the audio and the transcripts here. Please bear with us as we take care of this with due attention.
Thanks for your patience.

bb and the team,
nice compilation...Its probably the best award/gift that a fan can give back to the artiste (a collection of his own creations)..
Not every fan gets this opportunity.. Great work and keep it going.. I hope more singers/MDs approach you in future to get their hidden treasures which you guys had unearthed..

bb, kudos to you, man!
like Raghu pointed out, not many SPB fans could have done this... You have made all SPB fans so proud..
to the team.... pl make the list of songs available on the net... if MP3's are too much to ask for, at least list out the songs.. are you guys including telugu songs as well? Sure that's another big ocean..

Raghu,
'Unnai naan parthadhu' - this song was from movie pattikkattu raaja (starringkamal and sivakumar. MD: Shankar ganesh). It's really an amazing song by SPB.
bb: I am not if these songs are in the list.. if not pl add them
1. sorgam madhuvike - sattam en kaiyil
2. azhagana pookkal - anbe odiva (?!)
3. pattukannam thottu - kaakki sattai (Some may think that this is not a great song.. But I do. Just listen to it and am sure you will agree with me)
4. nandha en nila (SPB & MSV's master piece)
5. sangeetha jadhi mullai - kathal oviyam
6. akkam pakkam parada - unnal mudiym thambi
7. kanmaniye kadhal - 6-irundu 60-varai
And a lot more... I hope that you have covered them all..

'During their conversation, SPB mentioned that he doesn't remember/have a lot of old rare songs that he has sung and would love to recollect them and have them in his collection'...
Most of the songs you've mentioned are not old and rare.. These songs are easily available on the internet and any music store.. I guess bb is talking about the ones that are rare...

Unnai Naan Parthadhu redeems S-G totally from obscurity, just this one song showed what class compositions they were capable of....
Nandh en nila is VDakshinamorthy song..... as classic as Manmadha Leelaye Vendror, Pattum Naane, Aayiram Nilvaey Vaa
Has anyone heard this forgottehn SPB duet: Nenjathil Poradum ..... i think it was Shyam
