Padma Bhushan award for K.J. Yesudas

K.J. Yesudas is among 27 eminent Indians selected for the Padma Bhushan award this year. The names of the winners were announced as part of the Republic Day celebrations. This is a very fitting award for one of the greatest singers that India has ever produced. Congratulations, KJY!!

  Hi everybody,
  Actually there is no comparison between Dr. K.J.Jesudas and S.P.Balasubrahmaniam. K.J. Jesudas is the best, better than even Md.Rafi. Anyone dis agreeing with me will agree it after 20 years from now. Dont look at the number of songs sung by them. But compare the variety and the perfection in singing. S.P.B can never sing a song like 'NADA BRAHMATHIN" by G. Devarajan. It is not only God's gift but also the hard work he put on practising from the childhood days. Why I am comparing with Md. Rafi is because I heard "Chand akela". KJY s sound was a little boring in the early days of his singing. But from the age of 28 his voice has cultured under the training of G.Devarajan, V.Dakshinamoorthy, M.S.Baburaj, V.Raghavan, Salil Choudary and the classical music trainers. That culture is never acquirable for any other singers of our age. He is actually the God's gift for the Indians. Especially Malayalees since they have utilised him the best. He is a quick learner of his faults. If I writes a lot of his hit songs I will be only disappointed about the non-inclusion of many other hit songs by him. So I am not writing it.

  dear friends
  lets us not compare the greatness of KJY with SPB
  they are two different kind of singers. KJY's voice is definitely more cultured than SPB as he is a trained singer and knows the nausances of classic music. Please ask SPB sir to stick to film songs only and leave the devotional,pathos and classical to the one and only dasanna. SPB has no divinity in his voice when he sings devotional songs. he has the same filmy style when he sings songs like the one he sang in anamacharya film. its awful to hear them. any way lets not compare them b'coz we are only fooling ourselves and wasting our time by comparing them.
  SPB may have sung more songs than KJY and could be more popular than dasanna and could have had advantage in singining in many languages because of his diction. but to me my favourite is the one and only K.J.YESUDASJI

  it gives me immense pleasure and joy when i listen to your melodius voice. what a gift god has given to you and what a gift you have given to the society in turn is amazing. you are awesome when you sign songs on lord iayappa specially the ones rendered in the pathos ragas.
  i think god has given that special blend when you sign the sad songs. we are great admirers of yours at home. please do visit our family atleast once when you visit bangalore. my mother is nomore in this world to see you. she just loved listening to you. all the keerthanas in telugu rendered by you she use to listen with divinity. i still have them with me. you have been my guru eternal and i am you shishya still struggling as a fly stuck in an ointment.

  Among singers from south we all like the one and only Great YESUDASJI... His voice is the purest voice a human can have in the earth..His hindi songs are excellent.. happen to here some of his Malyalam songs from my friend..(MD by Ravindran)..which were excellent..SPB is a waste..Though he has sung some songs in Hindi no one really likes him.. he is a waste..

  Yesudas is the best by all Standards. No one in this planet can sing like him especially Devotional Songs. IT IS YESUDAS vs YESUDAS.
  
  His latest album AGRE PASAYME stands testimony to that.
  
  I like his film song PAALNILAVINUM ORU NOMBRAM from Kabuliwallah.

  Hi, my name is Greg Walters. I am currently a world music/sound psychology major at Glennoak High School. I was just wondering. Can I use your comments for my music project. I am comparing singing legends in India, since it is where the most complicated music form is located: Carnatic. did I spell that right. I actually feel sort of stupid being white and a fan of indian music. I am partial to hindi and malayalam. I have listened to this S.P balashubramanium, Yesudas, and Rafi guys you guys are talking about. I have compared their vocal ranges at their beginning prime and current. According to my research, Rafi is dead correct? So I took one of his last songs from a hindi movie. I am so excited. I have really learned a lot from this project. Before, I was listening to Busta Rhymes, Brittany Spears, and Michael Jackson. NOw I realize that if you want to hear real music. Come to India. After comparing their ranges, quality, and capabilities, I have concluded that Yesudas is the better singer of the three. Rafi is very close, but his voice was "closed" if you know what I mean. S.P.B's voice was the worst out of the two, but it was his vocal range was what earned him last place. His vocal range doesn't even come close to Rafi's or Yesudas's. Yesudas also has a fault. At his prime his vocal range was from -23 (lowest range) to +56 (highest range). now it is -20 to +52. His range is going down, but I guess age is a factor in this. Rafi's at his prime was -20 to +42. Before his death, it was -18 to +35.

  As Yesudas himself has stated...SPB can render all of Yesudas's songs to perfection but he can't singer all of SPB's songs..........think about it!!!

  Please do NOT insult P Jayachandran's singing ever !!!! You have been doing this in every thread and at best, this is distasteful. Do you know that PJ was KJY's tutor, in many ways ? The 'athisaya ragam' song you hear now is actually the track version. PJ was supposed to sing the final version but KJY's political connections prevented that from happening. SP Bala's 'sangeetha jathi mullai' and 'pani vizhum malar vanam' were supposed to be track versions, to be decorated with the voice of PJ when he had time, but SP Bala Subba had his say because he was close to Gangai Amaran and PJ the humble man he is, chose to keep shut. Laxmikanth and RD Burman had called PJ over to Bombay to render some numbers for Amitabh, but Kishore Kumar Ganguly stepped in. Moreover, PJ can change his voice and sing for even heroines.   Dr.K.J. Yesudas is the Best no doubt about that, you already found that. Anyway you have to hear Yesudas English album called "AHIMSA". The UNISCO gave him award for that. Listen to Yesudas classical music!!
