The aim of this thread is to collect, at one place, interesting
stories, anecdotes, tit-bits etc, related to TFM. A newcomer to
the forum will find this collection very interesting to read. For
example, Ramki mentioned the following story in another thread:

  Did U know.....
  
  IR composed for 54 movies in the year 1984 and in 1992 he scored for 56 movies.This is in limca book of records.
  
  The MD who stands next to IR (excluding his 30's and 40's )is deva 36 movies (don't know which year)

  Shankar, do you mean that 56 refers to the number of the movies released in 1992 that had music by IR? In tat case, I thought Hindu quoted the number as 65 in 1992 and 59 in 1993. Of course, that's only in Tamil. If you consider other S.Indian languages, it will be much more.

  The following is some comments that Chitra has given about Illayaraja. TRANSLATED TO ENGLISH
  
  The reason that I am singing in Tamil Cinema is Illayaraja. I have also worked more for Raja sir. When Raja sir heard that my voice was good, he asked me to come for a voice test. Naturally I am a nervous type. That day when I was in front of Raja sir, I was extremely nervous. I was shaking while I sang the song. I was scared of what he was going to say. He nodded his head and said "POyedu Vannga". Only after that was I felt relaxed.

  yea it was IR who is even responsible for Chithra singing at all. She was in school when IR coerced her into singing in Sindhu Bhairavi, which later got them the National Award.

  Raja was using only TMS for the male voice in his earlier movies. In the veLLi vizha day of annakkiLi, it seems SPb went to Raja and said, "ennappa engaLellAm pArthA pAdagargaLa theriyalayA (mind u , he was a senior to Raja.check how sportive he was!!!),engaLukkellAm pAda vAippu kidayAdhA" .
  
  Then came uRavAdum nenjam in which Bala started .....manjaLin maharANi ,kunguma perundhEni" in the song "oru nAl unnOdu oru nAL , uRavinil Ada, pudhumaigaL kANa".The rest is , as the cliche goes, history.

  another similar tale. kamal had just finished recording a song (think it was from MMKR) and was walking out when he met KJY, who apparently said "engalayum paada vidappa, neeye ellaththayum paNNittaa eppadi". kamal immediately fell at his feet, i believe. talks of the esteem kamal has for KJY.

  I purchased kAdhal kavidai today. One interesting thing I noted was, the recording was done in prasad and the it was duplicated at panchathan recording inn !!! (i guess it's ARR's recording studio, Am i right????)

  Hariharan, in a telephone interview over Radio 6 yesterday, said that he DOES NOT change his singing manner to fit that of any actor.
  He also said that most of the time, he doesn't know who he is singing for. :-))

  There is a rumour that KJY has commented on "Vande Maataram" album by ARR, that
  
  "ARR vande maataram paadalai oonap paduthivittaar"
  
  I don't think a great personality like KJY would have made such a harsh comment on another equally talented person like ARR. I frankly believe that ARR did a good work in "Vande Maataram". Some youngsters started singing "Vande Maataram" only after he released the album. Ur comments?

  T.M.S. Selvakumar (TMS's son) and S.P.B. Charan (SPB's son) will be performing together on the same stage, in Toronto, Canada. There will be two shows, one on December 12 and the other on December 17, 1998. The promo video shown on local TV channels have each of them singing hits of TMS and SPB, struggling to sound like the originals.
  
  Vijay Yesudas (KJY's son) has released a devotional album. Vinod Yesudas's song on lord Ayyappa is featured in KJY's 1998 devotional album.
  
  Ravishankar and his daughter Anoushka will be performing together in Toronto on April 30, 1999.
