TMS&P.SUSEELA VS SPB&S.JANAKI

I certainly think and feel that TMS& P.SUSEELA,jodi which really dominated the tamil film music in the 60"s and 70"s is the BEST duet pair we ever had.Even IR"S favourite SPB,S.JANAKI jodi is no where near to them.

  Guys;
  
  TMS & PS combination songs had excellent melodies,fine tunes (from MSV,KVM) very meaningful lyrics, by Kannadhasan, although PS had such sweet voice, these attributes contributed more to the success of the songs than the contribution of TMS & PS.
  
  But the trend changed, when SPB & SJ era, began the tunes of the songs dramatically, mainly by IR, the lyrics were not as good as kanadhasan ones, there were more fast beat songs, passionate songs than previous generation, any 1950-1975 songs are still very melodius, but in the late seventies till now the melody trend had cahnged, nowadays melodies are not as good as TMS & PS generation, BUT with the amazing voice of SPB, his singing style, Modulation , expressing emotions & the ever green voice of S.Janaki these not so good tunes nowadays are turned in to honey.
  
  melodies during TMS & Ps times were all more lor less similar, with slow moving romantic songs, but during SPB & SJ times the sinmging era had changed, making Rendering more difficult due to the trend
  
  
  so although TMS & PS pair were good, SPB & SJ, SPB & PS combination are the best in TFM to date.

  After the film "Indian" PS was not interested in singing movies and she keep her away from Industry. She was concentrating on devotional songs and stage programs.
  I read in "The week" that one MD insulted her while recording. In Industry also, so many arrogant people are there. So, she was hurt and she was away from the Industry. More over PS sang 3 songs is ARR's music in Tamil, puthia mugam, duet and Indian.
  Another question of you: Which heroine her voice suits?
  It suits for Chinna Gownder "sukanya" , Puthia mugam "kasturi" . Afterwards she kept her away. How these question arises?
  Now Singing a Tamil song is big task or what? I dont think. So many singers without good voice is singing now a days. No seperate identity for any of them. This is MD season. They can make any person to sing and extract the output. We are not expecting her to spoil her image, whatever she she buildup for the 50 years, just because of sticking in to market.
  You know, when she came in the screen in film "bommai" she got applauses and people started throwing flowers on the screen . She got such a good market and name that time. Even now we are the ardent fans of her just because the quality she provided for TFM. She just cant spoil that.
  You can hear her devotional songs to justify her voice. I feel it is still stable.
  If it happened today to that kind of legend, it may happened to anyone including IR ,SJ or ARR.
  I want to add one more comment of "Subbudu" in vikatan ( suppudu tharbar ) . " Entha isayayum sirappaka paada vallamai petta P.susheela-vukku inayaga vada inthiyavil oru kalaignan irukkiraana?" . Avarukku theriyathathu " vada inthiavil enna, ingeye niraya perukku avarai mathikka theriyavillai entu"

  and PS was not given that much because these r not the songs for her
  
  mainly like Kannuku Mai azhagu, AAya kalaigal,

  Just to prove my point, ask them to listen to latest SPB-SJ combo's Siraga Samba in Kannan Varuvan by Sirpi. Both the voice will ever remain

  How to justify a talent of a singer? He should fit everywhere. He could bring all emotions. Voice clarity , pronunciation and he should synchronize with the trend of the people. Let me talk about TMS.
  An Interview MSV told " TMS kaalil vizhunthellam avara paada vachirukken, Enakku vendiya ella baavangalyum avarala kondu vara mudinchithu" like this. That time TMS had a misunderstanding with MGR. Was TMS was a big shot than MSV or MGR?. No way. Then, why?
  BBC selected two powerful voices from India. One is TMS. What is special in his voice?
  Antha samayathil PBS, seerkazhi, SPB, KJY ellarum irunthargal . Avargalal mudayatha athu enna? MGR's support was with SPB and KJY also. Appadi enna than baavangalai kondu vanthar TMS? A small analyze…...
  When MSV , KVM, and G. Ramanathan ruling TFM , story decides the situations and situation decides the song. Veeram, murattuthanam, kambeeram, kindal,keli, kaathal, viraham, konjal, thaalatu, aasai, paasam, soham, azhugai, nirasai, thukkam, izhappu, santhosham , moham, azhahunarchi entu ella unarvugalayum vithiyasamana heros-kku paada vendiya kaala kattam athu.
  Oru nadigan mannanaaga, manthiriyaga, thalaivanaga, poraliyaga, arivaliyaga, kaviganaga, kaliganaga, kaathalanaaga, annanaga, kudumba thalivanaga, kanavanaga, thanthayaga , maganaga, vayothibanaga, piccaikaaranaga, oonamuttavannga , drohiaha, Nanbanaaga, varuvathai ellam paadalgalal unartiya kaalam athu. What is the role of TMS in this era?
  MGR, Shivaji, Gemini, Muthuraman, jayshankar, srikanth, ravi chandran entu ontukkontu sampantham illatha hero-kkal, gunachitrangal? How he managed?
  First I will talk about his voice. It is a open voice. Thondai nantraha thiranthu paaduvathu than open voice . It can sing in any range from 1 -7 scales. "TMS can sing in all scales. His voice was majestic, resonant and very stable at even very high pitches. So, entha paadalayum paada koodia vallamai petta voice athu.
  Aduthathau raagam . kanrataka isai, hindusthani isai, folks, light music, western entu antha kaala kattathil ellavattayum paadinar.
  Aduthathu Bhavam : ella vitha bhavangalum avar kuralal velipattirukkirathu. Nampa mudiyavillaya?
  
  In the movie "selvam", one situation. Recently married couple were physically separated in the name of horoscope. They love each other since a long time and she is away from her husband due to horoscope. aval vilahi oduval. Jatahathil nambikkai illatha avan kenjuvan, thurathuvan , aval maruppal, oduval. Aasayum ,kaathalum oru puram, kungumam maraupuram. That song is " ontra , Iranda eduthu solla" . The lyrics, music, TMS+PS, Shivaji+vijaya combination. Ethanai unarchigal antha paadalil vara vendum? Kaathalayum, aasayahavum thuvangum paadal ,konja konjamai vadivam mari , bavangal mari, sathiyatthil nilayppathai mudiyum.
  
  In thiruvilayadal " Paatum naane" song. T.R Mahalingam sang "Isai thamizh" in high pitch with lots of birghas ( Very difficult to sing this song). Other legend of classical music,
  BlamuraliKrishna with another beautiful classical with " oru naal pothuma".
  According to Situation " Paatum naane " should win. It won because of the powerful voice. " naan asainthal asayum ahilameelame" entu avar antha generation -iye asaithar.
  
  A murderers guilty feeling, confusion over the similar looking women, villans threat, fear about his love, etc… he is cornered. A singer has to bring all this feelings in one song. 100 violins give the background score and TMS brought " enge Nimmathi" . That song given very good name to MD and actor. That’s why they preferred him.
  
  " Muthai thiru pathi thirunaghai" another fast song in tamil ( rap paadalgalin munnodi). Enna oru ucharipu sutham?. ( arunagiri naathar)
  
  " He is handicap. Kazhivarkkam thalai thooka , maniviyin anbayum, avalukku ethuvem cheyya mudiyaathathayum ninaithu uruguvan avan. He expresses it in a lullaby. " Ean piranthai magane" . a base song. Anyone could sing. Especially voice like KJ. Antha range-ilum avar paadinar, jeyithar.
  
  Virakthiyin vilimbil avan. He is a doctor and his beloved wife's death is expected anytime in front of him. Will audience accept a burial palce song ? Naaikalum, narikalum oolai ida oru virakthiyana pattu " ponal pohattum poda". Antha paadalil yaar jeyithargal. MD, singer or actor?
  
  Paasa malar " malarnthum malaratha" song is a lullaby starts with a happy lullaby for his son, slowly he remember his past, the affection on his sister , within no time, like a switch he changes the mood it will change to pathos. Now this may be possible for the other few singers also , but he started it, this generation learnt from him " how to sing a song".
  
  He returned from jail. No one is there for him. One stage he came to know his sister is alive. He show all his affection on that small sister. She is in the death bed. That time his emotions brought out in a single song. "Thannerile Thaamaripoo" from Thangai. Irava unakoru koil undu, Iravum pahalum theepam undu, Enakkena Iruppathu oru vilakku, Ithanidam thaana un vazakhu?. The poet, musician and singer compete to win one another. We got a superb song.
  
  Antha naal Gnyabagam nenilae vanthathe - oodi konde paadum paadal. Antha moochu varuvatharkaaga studio -vai sutti odi vanthu paadinaaram. That dedication matters
  Like these, Story decides the song. Most of the songs are decided by story. Musicians required the singer who can bring the emotions.They found TMS was the right person for them.
  " yaar tharuvar intha ariyaasanam"(MK kalidas) entu kambeeramai ezhuntha kural, " yaar antha nilavu(Uyarntha manithan)" entu kaninthathu. "Yaarukkakaga" entu kathariya voice, Ponnai virumbum boomiyle " entu menmayaahavum paadiyathu.

  Already we talked more about duets.
  These are very few and he was representing three decade people. He brought all emotions they want. He brought all varities. He sang in all ranges.
  TFM's brought the people to screen, from road drama, stage drama , visual etc. Stage drama raja-rani , purana, samooha , nahaichuvaiyana ( may be more) vahaigalaga irunthathu. These growing stages of TFM they were the rulers. They have done so much of hardwork to improve the quality of TFM and in later 70's it could produce a clear visual and technically improved films. They are the base and reference TFM.
  They defined how to sing a light music. It was difficult to change the taste of a people from pure classical based songs to light music. They ( TMS, Jikki, PS) did it and they are the reference of TFM. Few samples TMS sang in our SPB and KJ's range.

  Paaduvaor paadinal ( kannan en kaathalan), paadinal oru paatu paal nilavinil (oru thaai makkal)
  Ponnanthi maali pozguthu ( Ithaya veenai) , naanoru kuzhanthai (padagotti)
  
  KJS range
  Kaagithathil kaapal cheithu kadal naduve oda vitten, ullam entoru aamai , unathu vizhiyil enathu paarvai, orayiram paarvayile un paarvayai nnan ariven,
  
  In this generation , like me ( I am in early thirtees) so many are interested in old songs. But the old generation people, How many may be happy with after '80 songs? Percentage differs a lot ?
  Now we have difference of opinions about singers between SPB, Mano, yesudas like so many. But they never had a diff. Of opinion on TMS and PS. ( PBS and a.m raja are used for base songs.)
  No other language had these many varities of singers. Bhagavathar, T.R.M, Seerkazhi, Chidambarm Jeyaraman, Trichy Loganathan like so many powerful high pitch voices. Other side A.M.raja , PBS, SPB, KJY, PJ, like so many. Other language top sigers Rafi, Kishore, mukesh, ghantasala, PBS, KJY all fall into the second category. We got variety of songs and we enjoyed too. Among these category TMS is the only person who got the gift of singing in all ranges. We should be proud of that genius. If you don’t like him, better keep quiet. Don’t hurt him by your immatured words.
  Other way, Lata & Susheela are comparable with their contribution, Asha and SJ are comparable . Rafi and KJ or SPB is comparable. But TMS no comparison.
  He is the king. So, he didn’t bow. He could have put some polish to the MD's , could have been survived. He never did it. In his period he achieved everything.

  SJ had made PS to go without been noticed :
  SJ was introduced in TFM in 1958. If She done it before 1980, I could have been agreed. IR's trend wiped out the previous generation. When PS was in market , she should have been wiped out her. But PS is humble lady and she never played with any ones carrier. No one complained against her so far. SJ and PS are proved in the industry. So, it may not be a big issue running because of another proved singer.
  In 80's SJ was singing more than 4 songs a day. Now may be 25 songs per year (?). Can I say that sujatha chased her out? Swarna latha chased her off ? Don't you think this is not the justification?
  Hereafter if you want to compare with her with any south Indian singer , pl. compare with hr with LR eashwari. She is more or less equal versatility like SJ. No way she is nearer to PS's standards and achievements ?
  Just by comparing with her you are trying to project her with PS's standard. PS clause is different. She can be compared with Lata. That's all.
  In this forum, I noticed that most of PS fans are polite and informative. But other side uses lots of filthy words and lots of " vaai chavadal" . This is PS
