It is a known fact that with Baba, ARR has marked his 10th year in TFM in a Big Way.
The beneficiaries of this prodigy's talents, tat’s us the fans, have decided to call for Celebrations in a Big Way.
Hence, a Constellation of ARR Fans from the newtfmpage Forum got together and took a walk down memory lane, through each year of A Decade of Rahmania.
The fruit of our labour saw the creation of a whole new Website, "10 Years of Universal Conquest", in Dedication to ARR.

Ok, Naaz..."No more.." :) but I hope u enjoy KM...if u dont, hope u dont come here and get me. I'd still say it's much better than AP. Irony was AP did better commercially than KM.

naaz.. if ur surely going to KM, take my advice.
at the slightest cute moments... laugh. jus laugh.
or it wud be very difficult not to be filled w/ a heavy heart. Devdas was pure melodrama, KM is a more "mellow"drama! ;)
When I went along w/ 5 other classmates, we saw ppl comin out wiping tears. We were kinda shocked. But then once inside, tho we were a bit choked, nobody had tears streaming out. (Boys prestige in front of peers, u know!) ;)
All those cute moments, i must agree, did a world of good to lighten up.

Great writeup AY !!
Down south, precisely Sivakasi, my cousins were really impressed with the lyrics and et al !
Shall me move on to ARR's hit number in 1993 ?
Was it from Pudhiya Mugam, Gentleman or Thiruda Thiruda ?

thx cosmo!
i'd put my money on Thiruda Thiruda.
ARR was at his percussive (vaarthai irukka?) best!
Putham puthu boomi - a feel good song
Thee Thee -Mindblowing! a chorus singer Caroline had the sung the song if i'm rite...

Thiruda Thiruda definitely gave TFM a very modern face...which of the songs of the films released in 1993 topped the charts ?

"Devdas was pure melodrama, KM is a more "mellow"drama! ;) "
Interesting pun with words.
Naaz: Yet another piece of recommendation. Don't watch AP. I strongly think MR was not in sanity doing that movie. I don't think you can stand the movie for longer than 30 minutes. KM is a much better choice, stuff to think about. As WN says, it will give you plenty to analyze and savour.

Oh, BTW my choice for 1993 hit of ARR would be Gentleman. What a rage "Ottagathai kattiko" was. Can't forget that.

Many thanks! I wish I could say that in "decorative english" but, hey - it is from the heart - and a thank you is a thank you is a thank you :-)
The consensus seems to be for KM. I will definitely try to see it (if it is not sold-out yet) and WN - I will not come looking for you here...:-)
Has anyone in this forum seen MRs first film (which was in Kannada ) called Pallavi Anupallavi (*ing Anil Kapoor and Kiran Vairale!!). If you ask me, MR has been trying to "get-right" that same film in every other "romanace" he has offered (churned?) Idhaya Koyil, Idhayaththai Thirudaadhey, Mouna Ragam, Dalapathi (the rajinikanth-shobana bits) and also "courtship" in Bombay...and I am sure Alaipayudhey (from what you all have said here) is another reworking of this "imposition" (don't ask for whom it is though!) :-)

Oh, and how did I miss Uyire (Dil Se) in the above. That was another reworking of the reworkings.

Naaz.. i mite sound crazy
but b4 Lagaan, AP was my favourite movie! serious..
1 thing w/ MR is he doesnt need a seperate comedy track.. He beautifully embeds cute subtle humour in a rather serious situation.

But in all honesty - don't you find his "romances" to be more than somewhat repetitive? Child-woman (oh god, when will MR outgrow this sort of characterisation of indian women??) sensitive but not particularly pragmatic men (oh god, now that Mohan has moved on, why hasn't MR??) Hardships (terminal illness, illegitimate progeny, cutesy depictions of serious issues eg. religious fundamentalism, cross-border skirmishes, ownership and nationalism, magnanimous (soft-spoken too) mafia dons with sentimental leanings...it goes on and on.) Add to this second (female) leads who take innumerable boat-rides in haute-couture, dance singularly amid a whole group of rabid, rauccous men on trucks and streets, bruised heros that nurse inconsolable (irrational too) women against their necks, chest and hearts - while staring vacantly and stoically into the distance with blood-shot eyes....
I am sure all these things will also be in KM. As they were in Alaipayudhey, and as they will be in Kadhoduthaan, Nenjoduthaan, Marbodudhaan...titled MR films. But I will see KM....and then I will spew again :-))

My picks for ARR songs are way way later than the year you guys are discussing...so I will hold my "favourites" till those years roll around...

Naaz.. I seriously dont find his romances repetitive..
why?
I've seen only Dhalapathi, Anjali, Roja, Bombay, Thiruda Thiruda, Alai payuthey, Iruvar (75% perhaps) and KM. That's it! ;)

OK, magix. That was just my feeling. It doesn't have to be universal. But I am sure lkg forward to KM now. And I did like a few of ARRs tunes from that movie.

""It has been a nice journey. I got bashed up as well as flattered by the industry in the last ten years. People underestimated me, but also overestimated my skills. I feel nice to have been able to make music a part of people's lives,'' is how Rahman looks at his dream journey. Making a debut on a platform that had the likes of Mani Ratnam and K.Balachander, Rahman admits he was lucky. "I guess I got it all in one plate,'' he says, speaking of "Roja'', which is now all set for its international release.
But a trip down memory lane thankfully does not come lapped with self-praises or analysis. As this musician wants you to see it, it was all about having a good time."
