Everyone is pretty bored and fed up with arguing on differences of opinions regarding MDs right ? After all typically, what would we TFMers discuss suppose we meet in person ?. Song discussions right ? So here is the thread.
Idea is someone will introduce a song and we all will discuss about the song, period. Limitation is we will automatically move to another song after 5 days of discussion. ie. anyone contributing to the thread after the first set of 5 days will have to come up with a new song!. Also whoever is starting first can state the ending date of five day period.
Some help from Ravi is required for this until some time for people to really start adhering to this.
BTW why 5 days ?? Obviously to keep the thread fresh and alive !!

Hi,
Let us discuss the song
"Minnalae nee vandhadhaenadi"
Lyrics : VM
MD : ARR
Singer : SPB
Film : May Maadham
The song is extremely good and IMO, it is the best of ARR
It starts like this. Vineeth is in love with the heroine, who had escaped from her house not liking his father's arrangement for her marriage with a bald man. She also loves Vineeth and when her father comes to know of their place, he comes to Vineeth and lies to him that the heroine is suffering from cancer and she can be cured only if she is taken care well. Vineeth believes it and sends the unconscious heroine with her father. The song starts then,
Pallavi :
"minnalae nee vandhadhaenadi
en kannilae oru kaayam ennadi
en vaanilae nee maraindhu pona maayam ennadi...
sila naazhigai nee vandhu ponadhu
en maaligai adhu vendhu ponadhu
oh... minnalae en vaanam unnai thedudhae"
(minnalae...)
Charanam 1 :
kan vizhithu paartha podhu kalaindha vannamae
un kai regai ondru mattum ninaivu chinnamae
kadhari kadhari enadhu ullam udaindhu ponadhae
indru sidhari pona sillillellaam unadhu bimbamae
kanneeril thee valarthu kaathirukkiraen
un kaaladi thadathil naan poothirukkiraen
(Minnalae)
Charanam 2 :
paal mazhaikku kaathirukkum bhoomi illaya
oru pandigaikku kaathirukkum saami illaya
vaarthai vara kaathirukkum kavingan illaya
naam kaathirundhaal kaadhal innum neelum illaya
kanneril thee valarthu kaathirukkiraen
un kaaladi thadathil naan poothirukkiraen
(Minnalae)
All is fine in this beautiful song except for the second stanza. Paal mazhaikku kaathirukkum bhoomi seri. But will God wait for a festival. Also, endha unmayaana kavinganum vaarthaigalukkaaga kaathirukka maattan. Vaarthaigal avana thedi odi varum. Like for the great Kannadasan. Also, kaathirukkiradhu kaadhalil oru mukkiyamaana vishayam illaya. Otherwise, the song is a wonderful one.
Ur comments please?
Regards,
M.Shanmugam

Dear shanmugam,
VM is an atheist. Probably he has considered "sami" as just another person :))

this song has a very good starting piece. good use of violins. (or done in synth?:)) ) the interlude violin piece is also good. a surprising song frm ARR. there no abrupt change in pitch, the song flows smoothly.

A great song from ARR. IMO, best ARR/SPB combo so far. ARR did not use any visible percussion for beats, and he mainly used synthesires thru out the song. Lyrics is generally good. IMO, SPB carried this song entirely on his shoulder, no other singer could have accomplished even half of it.

this song is definitely among ARR's best. there's a strange magic about it. it reminds me of a rainy day in madras whenever i hear it, wherever i am. have any of u experienced a similar feeling? everything was great except the two moonjis that the film starred. oru nalla paattai keduththa punniyam director baaluvaichcherum.

cram,
i do get the IDENTICAL feeling when i listen to the song...
now i know freud is wrong when he said:
people appear similar but when you probe the differences appear....
well, people appear different but ultimately experience the same....i guess

yo vj,
thrilled to bits. people sure are different, but when u scratch the surface, deep down there's hell of a lot in common. some experiences have a certain universality about them, and this song, i guess, belongs in that category.
say what,
why not start a thread (in the hub), where people can talk about such experiences and see if they coincide? i mean, most of us grew up in a common culture, place and time.

One of my classmates in BITS, will start weeping when u play andhi mazhai pozhigiradhu. The reason , he himself doesn't know. Whenever I play the song ,he'll request me to stop it.
Any such experiences ??
Sorry for digressing a bit, guys.

well shankar,
i fully understand your pal weeping at andhi mazhai pozhigiradhu. i myself find it difficult to hold back that "yaekkam", that heavy feeling that wells up in the stomach and proceeds all over the body and ends in tears whenever i hear many of raja's golden numbers or some old numbers.
in my case, the songs are:
-koil mani oasai thannai
-aanandha raagam
-o vasantha raaja (the start)
-ennulle ennulle
-malaikkoyil vaasalil
-senthoorapppoove (interludes)
-paruvame
-poongadhave (start, man it kills me always)
i also find it difficult to hold back the tears, become unable to sing properly (forget speaking) whenever i listen to "ennuyirththozhi keLoru saethi" from karnan. PS's voice is jadoo.
SPB once said in a TV programme that he used to cycle to college every morning. on the way, religiously, he would stop at a tea-shop which would play "deewana hua baadal", a mohammed rafi number from kashmir ki kali. SPB says that he would just stand there, tears rolling out of his eyes. was it happines, joy, extreme delight, or just the purity of the music, he could not say.
well, tell ur BITS friend he is not alone.

sorry for the small digression (:))
cram,
'deewaana hua baadal' might evoke tears in any music lover who listens to it. it is such a fantastic melody. u play the song in any instrument, it would soung good. hats off to whoever the MD is for choosing rafi to sing the song!!
though iam a HCIRF, when it comes to sheer melody i personally have hindi songs from the 50's and 60's holding the first place in my list very closely followed by the IR of the eighties.
unfortunately, i cant find many of these songs in the net.
