Hello everybody

I wish to place this thread in all times and This is only for IR fans.

Here I start with 2 wonderfule songs

1) Madai Thiranthu Thavum - Nizhalgal

Fresh, Fresh and Fresh. WHat a full of freshness. I always enjoy while listening this song. On the way, at the room, anywhere at any mood.


2) Puthithay Ketkum Putham Puthu Keerthanam - Raman Abdullah

A simple and nice melody. But the last sound before the second Charanam melting me. Wov

  I also feel about PS's unsuitable voice for IR tunes for many times.

  hey.. can anyone tell me whatz the movie and the lyrics for the song which starts Silk smitha and Raveender...? It starts with a dazzling solo violin bit and goes on and on with the violin... its a kinda disco song... which has lyrics like this...

  Just listen to the song given in the link above for the song "mella mella ennai thottu manmadan un velyai kaattu...". It was a utter jazz number and none other PS could have sung that song... She paired with a singer called Raj seetharaman. This combo + VS Narashiman's violin gave the best song of the time. Of course it was from IR.

  I agree with Subbu on the song from Vazhkkai. An excellent number by PS and Raj Seetharaman (in fact he went to Law School with me). IR had always treated PS with dignity and respect and had given her some of the best songs in TFM. All the songs were popular and she sang most of the sonmgs in Telugu (dubbing..is that what they call?). Has anyone listened to "Thenial Aaadum Roja" an earlier 77' piece. Brings back nostalgic memories..of my school days......

  PS' voice is the most mellow and most endearing voice of all indian female singers, for me even better than Latan Mangshkar or Vani Jayaram, two others whom I like after PS's. PS' voice has got the most folk feel to it and many an IR's songs were saved from the shrieky quality of SJ. But, the sad thing while SJ hardly did scrw up any composer's songs, PS has several to her credits, mostly of IR songs. and, it is unfortunate that IR despite that gave some of the best melodies of all times to this lackadaisical singer. i hate her for that. look at the gems of IR such as the following: (hear them again and you'll see how easily this singer fails to deliver a consistent and smooth pitch)

  (the above 2 tunes are sufficient to place IR among the best tunesmith's of all times.)
  Manjal Nilavukku
  Onranom Unnodu (Anbukku Naan Adimai)
  Kaathodu Poovurasa
  
  and any others, you pick it up and listen, you will find PS very confidently genetically altering the song's appeal! what a frickin thing to do.

  "azhagey azhagu devadhai" - Raaja Paarvai.. a masterpiece in terms of lyrics/rendition/acting/music/BG and what more..!!!
  
  the usage of flute in a wild manner (as i wd like to call it) b4 the third charanam "poovulaavum kodiyai pola" is excellent.. dunno why IR didnt continue that kind of usage... ARR picked that up and used more often... an example wd be in "Anjali anjali" - Duet's BG b4 the third charanam.. a lengthy flute piece.. wonderful use.

  U r contradicting with your views on PS'. What u r trying to say? PS spoiled the 5 songs?
  
  I agree on the first 2 in your list. They were sung in very high pitch. But the rest Manjal Nilavukku, Onranom Unnodu, Kaathodu Poovurasa are really enchanting. Esp, ONdranom was beautiful.

  Subbu Saar, lifey oru cantradicshunnu. isaiyulum athu neengal paarkalam. aarohanam avarohanam. but, my opinion may seem contradictory to you because you want to perceive it that way. the point i am making is, PS is the most lovely female voice, but not necessarily well deserved singer for IR's songs, unfortunately. she does not seem to put an effort unlike SJanaki, who has hardly ever spoilt an IR song.
  
  and, i don't know anything simpler than a conversational style of writing. that is what i am doing here. i will try harder to refine my writing.

  Am not against SJ... she is also a great singer.. but she was comfortable only with IR's music, whereas her songs under all other music directors were so so only except a few like "Singara velane".
  
  In the same way, some songs could have been better sung by PS in IR (Nilavu neram, Then kulathile nee kulikkalam from Achani,..). But I wonder how IR kept quite if PS had not sung well. Was IR a dumb MD? Not able to understand..
  
  So, if something is indifferent to someone, it is better for someone else...:-)

  I have noted an interesting characterstic of IR in the mid and late 90's.ie an film personalities who have given 1 0r 2 hits without IR's music ( SAR, Sirpy, Deva et al)ultimately failed when used IR or his family for his next movie.
  few examples :
  1)Cheran : Bharathi Kannama, Porkaalam (Deva) hits
  Desiaya Geetham (IR) flop
  
  2) Parthiban : Puthyia padhai (Chandrabose ) hit
  Pondatti thevai (his second film) flop
  
  3) Sundar C : Ullathai Allitha , Mettukudi ( Sirpy) hits
  NAm iruvar NAmakku Iruvar (Karthik raja)
  
  4) K.s.Ravikumar : Puriyatha Puthir ( SAR) , Cheran Pandiayan (Soundaryan) hits
  Sakthivel ( IR ) Flop
  
  5) Prabudeva : Indu ( Deva), Kadhalan (ARR) hits
  Rasaiya (IR ) flop
  
  6) Vijay : Senthurappandi, Rasigan,Deva,Vishnu (alll hit by deva)
  Chandralekha (vijay and vanitha vijaya kumar, remember?) was a flop

  In fact I like all the songs from Thirumathi Palanichamy. IR and R.Sundararajan(director of the movie) have always been a very good combination. Vaidehi Kaathirundhal, Amman Kovil Kizhakaale, Kunguma Chimizh are some of the movies in this Combo.
  
  Also, OOOR had few other great songs too... Raja Raaja thaan and Vandhaal vandhaal oru Raajakumari...
  
  Vandhaal vandhaal oru Raajakumari... has a wonderful orchestration.

  I love the songs in Thirumathi-P, esp. Padha kolusu and Amman kovil vasalile, Kattumarakkaran - vetri vetri and Kathum kadal (both are heavily based on WCM), Pattu vathiyar - all are okay songs, OOOR - vandhal vandhal is very good.

  Another forgotten song from an old album.."oru kaaviyam arangerum" by IR himself from Aruvadai Naal..this would have been a classic if it had been rendered by some other singer..still it remains a pretty decent number
