Am tying again.. Guys, while humming the song 'Keladi en radhaye' from 'Gopura vasalile', had a feel that it follows the pattern of 'Yaaradi nee mohini' to some extent in pallavi. not saying it's a copy, maybe coincidental. what you experts feel ?
P.S. - IR is a genius, agreed. so, now paichal on me :-) just about the song. BTW, I too agree with dinesh that IR rates no.1 in originality, considering the number of tunes he has produced ! for that matter, not so many western musicians produce these many tunes in their lifetime !

"ARR was the first to 1. Introduce Loop based music to TFM - this stems from drum and bass loops as the basis of songs " First time, somebody calling a spade a spade. This is the major contribution of ARR to the film music industry in India. Atleast, he did somewhat good tunes to go with these loops, now the other MDs copying him are driving us nuts with this loop stuff.
ARR also got other musicians to improvise in his songs ..basically not actually writing all the notes for the songs. He is the first MD not to compose the songs fully in TFM. So ARR does not copy he collaborates, integrates (from loops/samples) and ofcourse composes a nice tune.

imdb.com (ultimate repository of English movies info) gives release date of Flashdance as 1983 (http://us.imdb.com/Title?0085549)...didnt Mouna Ragam come out same year? I find it hard to believe it was "copied"....theres just a passing resemblance, if any...

Now that the non-stop boxing match is over, allow me to introduce this link, where the Mouna Ragam issue was debated at length

hello anjali, jumbalaka stuff is in this same thread. have a look in archives. it was discussed upside down in this same copying thread and was accepted even by die hard arr fans..

Mouna Ragam came out in 1996/1997 as far as I know:
http://www.viff.org/viff02/filmguide/filmnote.php?FCode=PECKO
Mouna Ragam acc to IMDB was released in 1986.
http://us.imdb.com/Title?Mouna+Ragam+(1986)
Thanks Prabhu - although that link is talking about some other copy! About a movie called:
Benji the Hunted and it was released in 1987.
I am talking about Flashdance. Did you even listen to the song? To top this, I am not discussing the BGM, as that thread does. I was referring purely to the theme music and it's similarities..... the notes, the tempo, they all follow the same pattern.
I guess I am wasting my time on this thread, as ppl don;'t even read postings or see what I am verifying befoe commenting!

Dinesh - please give me the URL for the tread - the precise URL please. I would appreciate it.
I was interested in the Keerthanai copies. As for the Ennavale - I have never heard "veyuru tholi pangan" in any Raga other than Navaroj - If there is a version in KEDHARAM, like Ennavale, please give me the URL!

Dinesh - Keerthanai copies, as you mentioned before, as opposed to Thevaram copies.... There is a big difference! ;)

An, Mouna Raagam on 1996/97....no way ! it was definitely in early 80s. that's clearly mentioned in the site that Prabhu referred.
So guys, enoda earlier 'keladi raathaye' question govindava ? nobody seems to be commenting :-(

Dinesh - I can find no hard evidence on Jumbalakka anywhere! Nothing to equate it to another song - just references to Ceylon Baila and Mexican Music - no doubt it folllows that style, but does that mean that you say IR's HOW TO NAME IT is copied because he uses similar patterns to Mozart or Bach? I don't think so.
Also, with reference to your Thevaram 'veyuru tholi pangan', I may not have been clear, but the RAGA fo the two songs are very different. In fact I have also heard the same Thevaram sung in CHENJURUTTI Raga too! But in no way does either Navaorj or Chenjurutti resemble the Raga of Ennanvale, which is predominantly KEDHARAM!

Rajesh - LEARN to READ word for word!
Mouna Ragam acc to IMDB was released in 1986.
http://us.imdb.com/Title?Mouna+Ragam+(1986)
That's from the same IMDB database you keep referring to!
And I gave another link to that too! I think you are confusing Mouna Ragam to Pagal Nilavu (1994/1995)....
Another link to confirm this:
http://www.bfi.org.uk/showing/nft/featurearchive/ratnam/screenings.html
"Silent Symphony (Mouna Ragam)
India 1987. With Mohan, Revathy. 145 mins"
Yet another site:
http://www.xenix.ch/archiv/02sept/26542.html
I think your memory serves wrong.... ;)
Also, with regards to ur other request, I have no idea about that song. But my first idea is that it may resemble Yaaradi Nee Mohini because of the Raga (Scale) of it. A Sankarabarnam Raga sound to it, with accidentals.... Very common in film songs anyway.

Angeli,
Before Jumbalakka a humming comes. I heard the same humming in the background score of Bedazlled(Bedazzled released after Enswasa Kaatre). But I guess it is some some standard humming used in both the movies.

Thanks for that, but I would like to see exactly what song ARR copied in Jumbakakka - Something with samples to listen to will be appreciated.
And for An - yes, Mouna Ragam was released in 1986/87 Golden Ilayaraja/Mani Ratnam Combo!

An,
Are u asking dinesh to post links to thevarams and geerthanaikal........ have you got any brains what so ever? There are lots of vertions of thevarams. and im sure like denesh says arr would have copoied one of those. arr is very capable of doing that master piece (copying). and for comment of IR, i hope ther will be a lot of links for english songs unlike thevaram, so pls post and prove ur comment abt western clasicals which u say ir copied and inspired. Jumbalaka is a cut and paste.. it sounds like srilankan bila rite.. but actually he has copied it from a spanish song. the link and name of the original album was posted in this thread i think. if not go and check other threads which is talking abt arr's glory. in one of those threads i think probably b4 3 weeks that link was posted there. Now everyone noes arr is copying. and that has been proved so u ppl trying to spoil IR's name and trying to say IR also copied and thats y arr is copying ha?? good joke.

Anbe sivam,
Are you talking about the humming when the guys a spanish drug lord?
U r right it is the same humming. I asked the same question a few yrs ago in the same forum.
Apparently this humming is a traditional spanish hum, which is quite commonly associated with spain.
But I must add the humming has been modified a lot in the the jumbalaika song.
