WHAT MAKES IR THE KING OF MELODY!
Just Listened to the song Poongatru Un Per Solla from Vteri Vizha.
Just conclude that IR is the king of melodious and soulful songs in Tamil.

Did you listen to Ivan, kum? It has got great numbers in it. Refreshing tunes should be expected from pop musicians. The reason why you feel that he is repeating is he has scored music for more than 800 movies. Our Movie trend has not changed. They still keep coming out with same old story and same old situations. Maniratnam, Balachander, Bharathi Raja gave him more scope to come out with wonderful tunes. Don't you think lack of good movies these days is a contributing factor? Did you listen to Mahanadhi. It's a wonderful score. "Sri ranganadhanin" is great song. "Nee Partha Parvaikku" from hey ram is a great song with wonderful bengali rendition in the beginning. IMO directors are underutilizing him.

I have admired the one song and one bit by sudha in Ivan in that forum. except those only "apidi pakirathuna" is listenable. the rest is same old useless crap. Is this the guy who gave a full pack of good songs in SinduBhiravi? IR doesnt have the trend to give all good songs ina move nowadays and he has to accept that fact. He could limit his movies and save his good tunes to giv one complete(good) album.
Ok in heyram except those two songs (hariharan and another song where kamal get drunk) is there anything worthful? Dont say the movie situation didnt let him but come on..

>>>Take the Muthumani maalai song from Chinna Kundar ( :) ). That beat in the background. How many songs IR had with that one single thabela background?
I have told this many times here. Same example. Kum --you and me have similar taste I guess.
HeyRam, two songs...just that. That "Ramar Andalum..babar andalum" song...how indifferent it was from the film. It was supposed to be a film for the period of 1947, but you have a mordern song. Then that "Hey Ram"..title song..So much of electronics..What happened to IR there. Since this is IR thread, I talk only of IR. What I have said is observation. Has anybody has intentions to respond..not bash?

You are right. But that is common in the tamil cinema industry. They simply ignore the logical factors.
I happed to watch "Road to Perdition" a month back.Everything so perftct and meet the time it was made. How they make such a good classics (the director's second movie!)there but in tamil they still stick with masalas. HeyRam was made in a big budget and it failed to give audience the impact kamal felt when he get the awakening in the last scnes of HeyRam. No wonder he came back to masalas.

Did you listen to the title track? It has an upbeat rhythm and ear-catching orchestration that makes it an instant winner. The Vedic religious chants, Vaishnava Janatho... song is an excellent score followed by Varanam Ayiram.. And the Sanyasa Mandram by Kamal and Hemamalini. Every song fit exactly for the movie. On top of that the background score was stunning. I guess it is more to do with personal opinion. I enjoyed the music. It was such a divine composition from start to finish. Brilliant experimentation.
Wonderful Orchestration. As far the chinna gounder song it was a good one. I don't find the anything repetitive in that. It was hit song when it was released. He has scored over 4000 songs.
In my opinion his understanding of music is far better than anybody in TamilNadu. In the last five years Hey Ram was one of the best BGM. Only when people look beyond the songs, in a movie our movie industry will improve. In 1977 movie Spielberg movie 'Close Encounters of The Third Kind', the scene where the E.Ts are communicated through a music is stunning. It never ceases to amaze me. Why can't our MDs and fans go beyond the craze after songs. On that score IR did more than good job in Hey Ram. I know you guys will come out 1000000 different rebuttals without any concrete evidence. I guess i listen what i like. You listen what you like. Period. I am not an attorney for IR.

one thing everyone is forgetting is the fact that IR composed these songs after they had already been picturised on L subramanyam's songs-given that limitation,he had done an excellent job-dont you think?
and guess what-IR'S MUSIC FOR HEYRAM IS IN LIMCA BOOK OF RECORDS FOR THE SAME.

No, I was talking about that song "hey ram", which kamal sings with his long hair floating in air and a gun in his hand to shoot. Speedy wind comes and goes. Too much of Graphics misadventure was also done there.

Until i came to U.S i didn't have much idea about IR's works. But after coming here i found out that so many student friends of mine in U.S who have done so many researches in IR songs. I had opportunity to rub shoulders with people who have been here for 15-20 years. They could go on for hours to talk about IR and his magical works. Some very fine points were discussed. Certain things they told me was beyond my grasp. The speed with which IR composes is unmatched by any composer in India. I started realizing what kind of a genius he must be. As long as i was in India i was kind of fan of kind of everybody. After coming here i became HCIRF.

Listen to the songs from this page
Vanengum from Moondram Pirai
(as he mentioned the opening of this song is such a delightful guitar piece)
Devnain Kovil from Aruvadai Naal
(One of my favorite IR song which is an amazing tune. The opening by IR is great. Is it a 'slogam'? great effect. The clever use of instruments in this song is amazing. Anyone having the mp3 of this song)

Pudhiya Poovidhu song from Thendrale Ennai Thodu is a wonderful example of arrangement of instruments. It was way ahead of times. It is still a fresh tune.
Thalaiyai kuniyum thamaraiye another beautiful song. IR showed great creativity in this song with instruments.
Most of the songs he scored were way ahead of times. Those who are in their late 20s especially 30s must consider themselves really lucky as they must have grown up with IR music.
