  Kamal is sad about IR,Thiru & Sabu Cyril not getting the awards. May be as someone noted earlier, they didn't take BGM into account.

  Sethu, IMO does not even by IR's standards qualify for a national award. But Hey Ram, hmm..I wonder if the national awards are also decided on the basis of cassette sales :-(
  
  I was confident that HR would bag an award each for IR, Kamal, thiru (photgrapher) and the supporting actor. Atleast Kamal lost to Mohanlal who is a bundle of talent. But IR losing to Ismail durbar - and that too for a song like Nimbuda Nimbuda - Man, that tells us how GREAT the taste of panel is.
  
  I have given up hope completely for another national award to IR :-(

  after giving awards and pattams to younger generation musicians, then it realised the value of "alla rakha khan".
  on this regard, I WOULD CONSIDER HIM AS THE BEST INDIAN. i am so glad that he rejected the "padma sri".
  
  Eppai yega corruption erukkum bothu i started loosing interest in those awards.
  
  However one cannot deny that people will not tolerate unusual attitudes by the high talented people/musicians. this will put off lot of people from associating with them.

  In my opinion,national awards are just a formality that happens every year.It is not a indicator of the talent in the country.If some south indian person won some award in some category, the next year it should goto a north indian even if the work is trash.
  We are talking about fighting pakistan but what are we going to with the division inside our country.
  I am happy that they gave the award to "sarfarosh" instead of taal or hdccs.sarfarosh was ignored in every award like filmfare when IMO is was one of best hindi films of recent years(technically and screenplay wise).The reason ,i think, it was ignored was bcos it was directed by a south indian and had south indian technicians.

  Wasn't Hey Ram released in theatres in February this year? If so, why should that be considered for awards for year '99? I think by saying NA2K, 'S' meant National Awards 2000.

  Aside from political clout, hindi audience is too illiterate to apprehend the essence of creativity in Hey Ram. National award in any field would be a blasphemy for Hey Ram amidst all these crappy aggregates avidly looking for publicity.

  BGM may not be considered as a part of music when deciding the best music director award. They largely go by the songs. Thats what it looks like.. can someone confirm this???
  
  IMO, Hey!Ram's BGM was awesome, but not the songs. I admire IR for having come up with the tunes irrespective of the pressures imposed on him by exit of LSubs, time etc.. but the songs, in my opinion, as compared to many other albums this year were just about ok. If songs were the only criteria, i wouldnt be surprised that hey!ram didnt bag it!

  Hey Ram!!!!!! I join millions of others in completely giving up hope - only consolation is that these awards have lost any credibility whatsoever - and it is just not sour grapes. It is known to the entire lieterate audience that ID had lifted the songs directly from some un-known and unsung folk signer in a remote Rajasthan village. It was a real sad sight to watch this poor guy mention (in the amul india show on star plus - if my memory serves me right) - " My friends listened to the songs (including the famous nimbuda) and told me that they are yours. I don't mind this guy lifting my tunes... at least he could have given me some credit"...
  
  and poor kamal - for a film which he thought with conviction was a turning point in indian/tamil cinema - both for technical and histrionic excellence......

  BGM was used earlier as a measure for MD awards. In the 70s/early 80s, Satyajit Ray got the best MD award for one of his Son's films, that had no songs.
  
  Awards are never 100% merit-based. It depends on the Jury....

  Well, (sorry if I sound quite Arrogant), what are the criteria of the judgement that you said it is well judged? I am trying to figure out what quality HeyRam lacks that it only bags 3 awards instead of supposedly 6 or 7 awards!..?!
  
  Take the Movie (the real superb one) "TITANIC" for instance. It bagged more than 6 awards simultaneously. And in Indian films, music (esp. the BGM score) determines the fate of the movie, what more the numbers. I think, Mr.Ganesh can clarify my doubts. Thanx.

  Hey Ram, it is not a Indian TITANIC for instance to bag 6,7 awards. It is normal film nothing special things except costumes. I enjoyed the best costumes and not for acting, songs or BGM. I expected the national award for costumes that the film won and what I have expected from my point of view the film has already by three national awards. If there is more national awards for this film, we can easily judge the poor international standard of indian films.

  In the first place,many would agree that TITANIC don't deserve all those awards(as L.A.Confidential was a much classier film and deserved the best picture award). So pls don't compare Hey Ram to some movie voted by some political & commercial driven Hollywood guys...ok!
  
  Normal film?...Are u kidding yourself??? When u said the BGM is normal,there u go..it already shows the level of mentality you have towards films. And when u can compare it to Titanic...haha...need i say more?

  Even I was extremely upset that Deva didn't get it for his 'Maami sirichcha malgOva, paaya virichcha paalgOva'. Let awards go to hell, MakkaL theerpE magEsanin theerpu. The 'Maami...' song has percolated thro' into the hearts of his fans and Deva's award will be our tears of joy that trickle down our cheeks.
