He has produced some really great music, especially in Malayalam. But I was wondering about some of his tamil ventures. I know he has some movies in tamil. I heard one and it was pretty good. The movie's name, I think, was called "Thaye Nee Thunai" or something like that. Anyone heard the music to this movie?

Okay jibi. BTW, I didn't know that Ravindran's the guy behind 'Greetings.' Good of you to let me know! I'll try it out soon!!

Geez, 'Greetings' is so substandard (maybe a tad better than 'Chakram', but still lame)!! :-(( What is happening to Ravs, who gave some brilliant songs even last year (who could forget 'Venakkal Kothaara Vaazhi' which practically redefined melodious music?)??

i don't expect any mds to justify a substandard movie with brillant songs.. even he does it its gonna get unnoticed .. i mean my advice to these dirs tht they should encourage new mds to movies like this ..look at wht alpohnse did in jalolasvam ..pretty awsome work
purv my recommentation to u is to listen to upcoming tracks vadakkum nathan, rasikan, made in usa and pouran ..these might pretty good works ..

...??? How do you figure 'Greetings' is a substandard film? Did the film release yet?
It was probably Ouseppachan who scored music for 'Ulladakkam'; the songs sounded unbecoming for Ravindran.

Ulladakkam had a gr8 sound track. the song anthiveyil had superb lyrics and beautiful orchestration.
the BGM was mind boggling. Ouseppachan did the trick here.

Got a chance hear some of Ravs' rare or semi-rare works, and here are some of my findings:
First of all, I would like to discard my opinion that 'Vishnulokam' is an overall substandard album. If nothing else, the song 'Aadhyavasanthame' is really worth a listen, probably much more. Especially watch out for the Sudhadhanyasi phrases at the end of the charanams. That's good stuff.
I also heard 'Raamaayana Kaatte' from Abhimanyu, which conspicuously isn't available at MusicIndiaOnline, so I had to go out of my way to hear this song. It's a super dappanguthu number, based on Natabhairavi.
'Iru Hridhayangalil' from Oru May Maasa Pulariyil: a gem in Jog raagam, one of Ravindran's specialties. Watch out for the choir in the second interlude. Is this a wedding song, about 'two hearts'?
'Aakaasha Neelima' from Kaiyum Thalaiyum Poruthu Eduthe: I thought that Mohanam was a way overused raagam; even Deva, SA Rajkumar, and the likes use this raagam! However, I've also known Ravs to give some super-melodious Mohanams (e.g., Vaanampaadi Yetho, Mauliyil Mayilpeeli, Yetho Nithrathan, etc.). Well, I heard this song, and there are simply no words to describe it! This song will just totally cleanse your being. I love, love, love the harp pieces and the charanams.
'Malarum Kiliyum Oru Kudambam' from Aattakalasam: Well, here's a Western tune from Ravs.
Regards,
purv

Agree with you! it's an outstanding song!
Isn't Adyavasanthamey set to Desh?

Yes, 'Aadhyavasanthame' is set to Desh, but at the end of the charanams, somehow the raaga flavor sounds very much like Sudhadhanyaasi.

Yes, Ravindran is indeed a great music director - many excellent movie compositions in Malayalam with other albums such as "Vasantha Geethangal".
In tamil, the only movie I remember is "Rasigan oru Rasigai" which has several awesome songs like
"Ezhisai Geethame", "Paadi Azhaithen" and "Kaatrinile Varum Geetham" - I think he had used several songs from several of his older Malayalam movies - Ezhisai Geethame was a reproduction of "Ezhu Swarangalul" from Chiriyo Chiri...
