He has produced some really great music, especially in Malayalam. But I was wondering about some of his tamil ventures. I know he has some movies in tamil. I heard one and it was pretty good. The movie's name, I think, was called "Thaye Nee Thunai" or something like that. Anyone heard the music to this movie?

Purv,
Ravindran used Unni mEnon for "minnaminni koodum thedi" the title song of ":Butterflies a mohan lal starrer.... the song is a totally different type.... just before Unni became popular in Tamil. It's a racy track. Listen to it.

Ravindran is a brilliant music director. His songs have a classical base which is a rare thing in this age of synthetic sounds and all that. His songs are evergreen hits. Here's wishing Mr.Ravindran all the best in life.

Manoj,
venugopal said in a recent interview that it was not Yesudas that bothered him(infact KJY did 2 albums from Tharangini with Venugopal as the main singer),but some other singer of almost his age who was a genius in "snatching songs"....pointing a finger at M G Sreekumar ?

M.G. Sreekumar is a third rate character in real life and he destroyed the malayalam careers of Venugopal, Unni Menon etc. Venugopal is right that M.G is a genius in "snatching songs" - without Mohanlal and Priyadarsan , M.G. S would not be singing songs today - he used their power to force producers to give songs to him

I just don't get to understand from where Ravindran gets all this wonderful music from.. Every song of his has been composed with utmost dexterity, and above all, he makes good use of Carnatic ragas.. "Nandanam" and "Mizhirandilum" are standing testimonies of his ingenuity even in these trying times. From the latter, I found "Aalila Thaliyumaayi varumo" a real masterpiece.. Jayachandran's voice still sounds fresh..

dear friends,
ravindran is indeed one ofthe greatest md's no doubt. he has been instrumental in bringing out the best in dasettan, and he has been very vocal about creating music to suit dasettan. there was an interesting thing which came out in a recent interview with him on asianet. he was asked his opinion of illairaja(ir), he disclosed their first meeting in some recording studio in madras. this was soon after his first film (choola). ravindran say's that he was not even sure wether the great man would recognise him. however he did and not only that showed him the cassette of chula which he was carrying in his pocket and told him that "i have not heard anybody bring out the bass voice of das better than u did for the song tharake" what a compliment from the great man.

I have a question: Was the soundtrack for the film 'Kalyaana Pittenu' by Ravindran? At musicindiaonline, that's what it says, but I'm not certain, as the songs sound very much on the cutting edge so to speak, which is certainly unusual for Raveendran, from my experience.

EVERY DOG HAS A DAY K.S .. i think u remember in 1991 his highness abdulla they agreed to give all the songs to mgs ..but the md was reveendran and he was much prefered to das .. das sang 4 and mg got 1 ...but the national award went to mgs for the one and only song

Do you mean Ravi, as in Ravi Shankar Sharma, otherwise known as Bombay Ravi? The fellow that did the score for 'Nakakshathangal' and 'Paatheyum'? He did the score for 'Kalyana Pittenu'? Wow! What a great hip soundtrack!

Ravindran is an Emperor in Malayalam Cinema music. Once in six months he makes a songs which will slaughter all other third class songs, from the third class musicians. What is the quality of today’s songs. Everyone says it is an ‘Adipoli Song”. Present songs like “Pacha Maanga”, “Karupinazhagu”, “Rakshasi” and “Lajjaavathiye”. Damn…. What is this? The music sense of Malayalees gone mad?
Dear Ravindran master, give us a break.

jibi, average doesn't quite describe 'Chakram'! I think it is downright stale. I'd rather hear the songs of 'Ammakilikoodu', 'Soothradaran', or 'Nandhanam' any day, to say nothing of Ravs' older albums.
BTW, oru kelvi: Did the film 'Desaadanakili Karaiyaraiyilla' (what a title!) have any songs other than 'Poo Veno..' and 'Vaanampaadi'? Or do those two songs make the whole soundtrack?

Hey guys! This thread has been stagnant for some time now, so I would like to revive it.
Is Ayilyam Naalil by Ravindran? I think it had three terrific Carnatic-based songs, based on raagas Hindolam (O Anubhavani), Kalyani (Aayilyam Naalil), and Subhapanthuvaraali (Maamaa Maanasashil). [I wonder why Jibi considered this album trashy...]
BTW, in the parentheses are the song titles.

Did not ravindeeran compose for the tamil film 'Rasighan oru rasighai', he often chose KJY over SPB, is it because KJY is a mallu :-)

oh please, let mg sreekumar alone. he is such a great alternative to yesudas. he has such a playful voice, very pleasant and likeable. what would have all the fast paced songs been without mg sreekumar? he just excels in them, nevertheless, he also does have some nice melodies to his account.
concerning who became famous and who not: its just pure luck. to be at the right place at the right time. nothing more than that. sure, there are a lot of very very good singers in the country, but there are a lot more other factors which play a role in who getting a song to sing.
raveendran is by the way a great composer. i initially thought he had only composed some great numbers in the early 90s, like his highness abdullah, kamaladalam and bharatham. but only then i came to know of his super 80s hits. in the mid 90s i think he was not there in the charts, that was the time when johnson was having his high. but then, with kanmadam (again a mohanlal movie) he came back and continued to do wonders. i really wonder how he still manages to call our attendtion to those great songs like in nandanam (kaarmughil varnante as well as the mg sreekumar number manasil midhuna) and mizhirandilum (aalila thaaliyumay).
raycas
p.s.: don't know anything about his tamil ventures
