Now you cant go to Jerry Goldsmith and say Morricone was better.. or go to
John Williams and say he is a lowlife and say someone else was better. You are sure to be smacked right across your face.
The reason being, its simply a matter of taste. Since, all arguments on the quality of music are mostly arbitrary
and tend to be highly subjective.. the commercial success of an album will be a more objective criterion for
rating a composer. Also, it must be noted that if an album fails, its not as if the composer has fizzled out..
it only signifies the composer has not been in the best of his forms in that particular album. No one in their right mind
can say for instance, En Mana Vaanil flopped so Raja is out for sure. the same goes for Baba..
However, since one album's success cannot reflect on composer's success, consistency is what is taken as the next criteria. We rate success
over a period of time. the basic criteria is.. Volume of hits to no. of movies. Once this is done, it will be instantly clear which composer is successful at this point of time or has been for this many years. Yet,
you must realize we are talking about only success and not quality. They are interdependent but not exclusively so.
If you think quality must be rated, then its only going to lead to further pointless arguments such as "I like him,
my friends like him, My White boss said his bgm is great, my brother's hindi-speaking friend was blown away.. so What the Hell?"
and these debaters conveniently deduce from their anecdotal evidence that the one who argues otherwise is a nut case and
promptly suggest so. This results in threads being populated with obscenities which we can live without.
anyway, now few questions to both ar rahman and raja fans.. answer whichever concerns you
1. What innovations have raja and rahman done respectively in tfm? Again, no anecdotes, no numerical advantage etc.
(I know this has been done in tfm page for a long long while but heck, it would be interesting to recap than to watch newtfmpage
rot in shame)
2. Why do you think Rahman/ Raja is commercially successful?
3. Why do you think Rahman/ Raja is internationally acclaimed?
4. Quote some memorable bgms or interludes which you think fellow df-ers will like too. (my gripe is these days newtfmpage threads lose
focus and look like some public chat room) Will be better if u can give links to those bits.
5. Try to listen to a famous/relatively album of Other composer and do a sincere review and try to list out the good things about the album
after all, every album will have some good thing in it that you will like..(without resorting to he knows only dham-dhamakku
or he is only sound engineer et al) If you are dissed by some bad aspects of the album.. do post it but politely so that other df-ers will not be
offended.
6. Anything else you can think of..
I know all those longtimers sighing.. but dont u think this is better than personal mudslingings and obscenities?
lets see how long this thread continues to talk about music only without abusing composers/fellow df-ers...
Game on..

Well well.. here it is... as usual we got one half baked response.. A is so good.. B is so bad..
A is lucky.. B is genius.. A is composing koothadi.. B is composing 'symphonies' was there any technical points in what he had to say.. So easy to Tendulkar is a worst player... Dravid is a worst player.. because you don't need to give any proof right? I don't know with what intentions you started this thread.. But you should have been smart enough to know it would go in only one direction.. That is filled with 'pointless accusations' like the one above.
Tendulkar has scored 30 centuries because of luck.. wow i didn't know that was so easy to say.. Could he answer any of my technical points? Nope.. answer is big ZERO. Was he able to appreciate the technicalities of IR.. answer is another ZERO.. Was he able to atleast mention about classic songs like 'Thumbi Vaa'. Dismissing a 27 year old illustrious career in 10 lines filled with more than 800 movies just like that reflects very poor taste of him.

Until today, I knew that Shri Ilayaraaja is a great film music director - his expertise in diluting Carnatic Ragas without subsuming their native merits, is well known to me - but today I had the oppurtunity to listen to him sing a few kirthanas - he sang a kirthana in Raag Abhogi - very well rendered - in Carnatic Sangeet, one needs to know the Sahityam - without knowing it, one should not sing it making it sound absurd - Isai gyani Shri.Ilayaraaja sang it very beautifully and his grasp of the Sahityam is commendable. After today, I realise that Shri.Ilayaraaja is a thorough expert in Carnatic music also. May the God Almighty bless Isai Gyani with a long life so that he can render a long service to music" -

Have you guys listened to the song 'Suttum Vizhi Sudar' carefully.. His interlude between pallavi and first charanam, has western classical piece..
It is simply a masterpiece. Throughout the song IR is at his experimental best.. Great beats..
Wonderful orchestration..

Your postings seem too childish. Can't believe you argue like a primary school kid. Forget coming to the point, you don't even know how to carry an arguement. What you have said this far seems totally rubbish. No wonder nobody takes you seriously.
"Looking back, some 27 years later, we can see that there was absolutely nothing special in the songs of Annakkili."
Hell sake forget abt 27 years later. Nobody even listens to KM now. Need we say more?
"The songs are nowhere the class of say, Roja songs, which still sound fresh even after ten years."
Roja BGM ripped off The Omen!!! 1 Roja song ripped off Chariots of Fire! Chinna Chinna Asai ripped off the style of IR.
Need we say more?

ambleen, if my posts are childish, what can we say about yours? Pulling wool over the eyes?
You can fool some people some time, but don't try to fool all the people all the time.
Chinna chinna aasai IR's style? Then I say all IR's songs are the styles of his predecessors from MKT to MSV.
Hell, forget his predecessors. IR even copied ARR's Mustaffa Mustaffa in his recent sex bomb or something like that disaster recently. At least Chinna chinna aasai was a mega hit. Sex bomb (I can't even remember the title) was a total disaster. IR is not good even at lifting properly. He thinks if he were to cut & paste (i.e. like Deva) he can get a good song.
Even to copuy like Deva needs some talent which your man totally lacks.

Ambleen... don't waste your time educating this guy. He is beyond those things. For him things like counterpoints, fusion music are beyond his grasp. Yea for me 'Mounamana Neram' sounds still fresh.. infact.. 'Ayiram Malargale' sounds still fresh. You can argue with any other ARR fan other than this guy. He is incomprehensively stupid and rigid. So putting sense into his head is as hard as hitting nail with a hand. Only our hands will get hurt. So just ignore him. He is yet to come out with a decent argument. He must have posted like 1000 posts.. 999 posts will say IR is bad. ARR is good. I have never seen one of his thread says.. for example "This song of ARR was good because of so and so..."... in an ARR thread. He has no clue even about his 'idol' ARR music (Simple Addition). How can we expect him to understand IR music (Complex Anaylsis)?

Uthaman, you are being so YOU. Which is being highly idiotic. You think people are blind? Everyone can recognise what kind of a low life moron you are.
You asked for it when you drew first blood. You expect everyone to keep quiet while you keep on throwing abuses?
As I have mentioned earlier, you can only survive when people do not know any better.
I am ready to call your bluff. And so you have started panicking and sweating. Hehehehe
You should have just taken Kirus advise and shut up. But your decadent mind just could not take it, could it?
Ask for more, and you will be given!

Who is this guy ambleen?. Was he in a comma state for the last 10 years?. He still remembers Chinna Chinna Asai song but completely forgotten all about Ivan & EMV. We all have to wait for an other 10 years to here from ambleen praising Baba songs.
FYI:
Soon ambleen will be writing about Gentlemen & Puthia Mugam. So please tuned & hope he will be an ARR fan within next 2 years.

Hi AWE,
Ok, will take your advise. Isn't (161.142.100.86) once appeared as Sheila or some thing. Seems like a cross-dresser or something. Yes, definitely a time waster. It can't comment or analyse things that even a amateur can do. We talk abt ABC & it talks abt 123. Full of rubbish.
Btw, I don't know why whenever I mention an obvious well known fact that Chinna Chinna Asai is from the mold of IR, many ARR fans get so uptide. Have they forgotten all those reviees from back then. HAVE THEY FORGOTTEN THAT ARR WAS UNDER IR FOR SOME PERIOD. Forget abt sounding fresh and also apart from ripping off from all those I mentioned above, it doesn't even sound MSV. Definitely not KV Mahadevan nor does it sound close to any Hindi film music. Then isn't it obvious what it sounds like.
I guess the truth hurts huh.
