I'm a new visitor to this website. I couldn't see anyone discussing about Vani Jayaram's songs.
Let me start this one.(It had been there previously pls. forgive me!)
"Ezhu swarangalukkul ethanai paadal..
Ithaya surangathul ethanai kelvi...
Vaazhum manitharukkul ethanai salanam.."
Wow! Beautiful voice!

Neel D / Saravanan -
Tharava Naan Tharava - such joyous secret sharing (besides being an irresistible invitation to dalliance!) in a voice filled with a promise of imminent physical pleasure. A wonderful song, sung with a veneer of suggestiveness, never abandoning the (tonal) sublime in transient sex. VJ excels.
Listening to this song, I was sent back into another loop of a forgotten lyric - I don't know who the singer is (is it VJ??) - and the words are not accurate....
Varalama Sugam Perlama.... Is there such a song? Any details? I got caught up in the similarity of the verse (at least opening) and now there is no way out of this loop...'til you make it go away with the requisite statistics! :-)
Tharava has some evocative lines:
Koondhal Ondru Podhume
Porvai Veru Vaenduma
Muththam Ondru Podhume
Sorgam Ondru Vaenduma
(words might not be too accurate...just listened to it once.)

Neel/ Naaz: ‘Tharavaa naan tharavaa’ has always been among my pick of VJ solos from the 80s. As it happens to so many good songs, the failure of the film caused the premature withdrawal of this lovely song from airtime it justly deserved.
The opening humming, the bashfully whispered 'tharava naan tharava’ followed delightfully by that ‘peravaa’ almost as a shy afterthought, the gentle admonition that is ‘kaadhalin vegam koodathu’, the startling, yet soulful flight in ‘kanna enna aathiram’, the chorus voices that make a sudden late entry after ‘naanam pennin saathiram’, the ‘sinungals’ that Neel has so attractively described, the trumpet(?) that trumpets her suppression into submission, the chorus voices that try to pull a curtain over the lovers--sorgam veru vendumaa?!
The same chorus voices usher in an air of melancholy when SPB sings the pathos version that goes 'Kadhaiyaa kaaviyamaa'.
Naaz: Varalaamo sugam perlaamo is a SJ song from 'Aasai Manaivi'

Hi all,
here's this week's upload:
http://in.f1.pg.briefcase.yahoo.com/bc/nat_saravanan/vwp2?.tok=bcslCCTBH4IZnjs8&.dir=/&.dnm=sangeetham.mp3&.src=bc
I know this song was shared recently in the egroup, but I read that the quality could have been better (couldn't listen to it myself).
Hope this is a better quality. Hope you don't curse me when I admit that I had it all along, and was waiting till I reach Balanagamma in the chronology to 'release' it-- but I realise now that I shouldn't keep blessings such as this treasure to myself :)
Lets enjoy this enchanted IR-VJ moment-- 'sangeetham en dhegam andro'.

Populist dissemination always trumps discernment. For instance, the song you've given us today (Sangeetham En Dhegamandro - could there be a better way of saying "Full-Bodied" Voice/Music? The difference between impressive singing and singing to impress, in a nutshell) is another song which did not get air-time (too classical for the Nila Kayudhu crowd of that era) and the most frequently heard song from the same film was Palliaraikkul Maligaiyai Alli Iraikka - zirconium to the Sangeetham diamond. Such things are absolutely beyond explanation.
Listening to Tharava Naan Tharava sent me also to a hindi loop - a solo by LM, and I found another trace...(might just be my hearing, however odd it might be:-)
Gar Tum Bhula Na Dhoge
Sapne Yeh Sach Hi Honge
Hum Tum Juda Na Honge
The sentiment is entirely different, but the quality of the opening is a pleasuring match!
Reminder: Chronology should be resumed...like right now! :-)

Saravanan, thanks for sharing this rare song with us. I think IR himself would have been disappointed at such songs having gone unnoticed early in his career. Iam awaiting "Manmadha raagangale" too sometime in the future.

Neel D -
I dropped by the VJwebsite a few minutes ago and hit a surprise jackpot - A song that I had completely erased from my memory, but one that came alive, a sleeping beauty kissed by the prince, and what a celebration!
Vaa Illamai Azhaikkindradhu
En Idhayam Inikkindradhu
Uravai Ninaikkindradhu
Kanavil Midhakkindradhu
I must say, the sensation I am feeling right now cannot be more aptly described! PS/TMS and VJ/SPB. A very rare coming together and how the voices meld and sparkle throughout the song!
Youthful Abandon - The composition captures the rush and the flush of New Love with such vivacity, it makes me feel rejuvenated - and old :-)
Thanks for VJ website riches!

Digression:
This is a request for a song file, a loop that looped me in this morning. If my memory serves me right, the song was a duet by SJ-PJC??
Music was by GK Venkatesh (I think.)
Maharani Unnaith Thedi Varum Nerame
Engum Kuzhal Naadhame....
-from Aayiram Vaasal Idhayam(??)
Surprise me with a "Yes! I have it!!" :-)
End digression.

Saravanan,
I saw the movie Raja Veettu Kannukkutti not very long ago. But there was only one song by VJ (anggam suranggam). May be "kaNmaNi un thirumaNam" was not included in the movie??

Priya, yes he is! (I remember one of his posts long back when he said he hailed from the same place as Bharathidasan :)
Neel, I haven't seen Raja Vettu Kannukkutti, but while searching for the song Naaz wanted last night, I came across this album in my collection.
There are 4 songs:
Summa irundhavana soodu kilappi- MV
Kannmani un thirumanam- VJ
Karpanai vaanil neendhi varugindra- SPB
Angam surangam- VJ
Naaz- sorry, I am unable to upload the song 'maharani unai thedi'. Apparently the mp3 is too big for yahoo briefcase :(

Then it should be from that movie. I don't remember the first song you have listed. But the rest of them are beautiful songs. The movie was, however, terrible.

Thumbs up: Despite VJ not being his favorite singer (as he has said), he comes to this thread regularly and makes sincere, interesting posts.
Thumbs down: A recent carefree post that he made in SOTD thread, which certainly is not in line with the image we all have of him :)
