Guys: There's another song which comes to my mind. It is from Gemini's "Chandralekha" and sung by TR Rajakumari and goes like this "Nandabalan Karunai Purivaan"....written by Kothamangalam Subbu (who also wrote the screenplay) and composed by S Rajeshwar Rao.

Guys: Another song came to my mind just now....Its from "Kanniyin Kadhalan". The vocal track was rendered by "ML Vasanthakumari and Trichy Loganathan (his first play back I believe)" written by Udumalai Narayanakavi and composed by CR Subbaraman. The song goes like this "Puvi raja en aruir jyothiyae..piriyamal naamae kadhal vazhvilae endrumae". It was either Jupiter Pictures (Somu) or Modern Theatres(TR Sundaram)production.

Hi All: The songs mentioned above distils a mood of tranquil timelessness: surely a masterpiece of creative empathy with a melody of matchless beauty. The essence of music is melody and the essence of melody song and the marvellous rapport they establish between themselves.

Sriram: I am positive that the song in AVM's "Vazhkai" was sung by none other than MS Rajeshwari. There's also another vocal track by ML Vasanthakumari. The song does'nt cometo my mind right now..but will request it later...

SK,
The MD for Naam is C.S.Jeyaraman.
Thanks for listing my request `Pesum Yazhley'.
The movie has some great CSJ's songs.
Ethayum thangum ithayam vendum
Aayiram theivangal undenru enni
Arumai mihundha engal arighar anna vazhhavey
Pesum yazhley penmaaney (AMR & Jikki)

Guys: Another song request....Vocal track by PB Sreenivos and ML Vasanthakumari from "Karpukarasi" written by Marudhakasi and composed by GRamanathan and goes by "Kaniyoe Paghoe Karkandoe..Kadhil Koovum Maduramozhi" The first song from PBS under GR.

Guys: There's a movie called "Devaki". I am not sure whether anyone heard about it. There are few good songs rendered by PLeela and Trichy Loganathan (her early debut with him). Her voice tells us her age (should be really young). Composer is G Ramanathan. Lyrics were written by Marudhakasi and Ka.Mu. Sheriff (the same team that wrote for Modern Theatres "MandhiriKumari). I am not sure of the production company either. (my guess is Modern Theatres again).

Guys: Was there another composer TR Pappa who worked with CSJ (may be couple of songs)for "Nam"? May be my info could be wrong. Because early AIR broadcasts and film title show GR as the composer for "Aboorva Sagotharargal", but S Rajeshwar Rao and Parthasarathy were asthana composer for Gemini from 1942-1949. In most of the old movie titles it used to show something like this "GR and Modern Theatres Vaadhiya Kuzhu". Like in MKT's "Haridas" directed by Sundarlal Natkarni couple of songs were inded composed by SMS, though the Movie Credits show GRamanathan as the composer. In some of the movies GR and Papanasam Sivan did colloborate for few songs here and there. Any info on these lines will be highly appreciated.

vicky, you are a God :). I was looking for the 'kaniyO' song for ages, only, I did not know where to look and whom to ask. Thanks a million.

SK: Thanks for that song from "NAM". Your efforts are well appreciated.

Hi All: I was listening to the song posted by SK from "Nam". Though I believe that not CSJ has done a good job in orchestration, but, it does resemble some of GR's tunes. CSJ has vividly demonstrated the use of "castenet" and good amount of bass and percussion to blend in between prelude and interlude. The vocalise by both AMR and Jikki are just a best fit. AMR's voice also resembles early TMS. TMS's early debut was in "MandhiriKumari" for GR and the song goes like this "En Erumai Kannukutti".

Hi All: Another request from "Devadoss". The vocal track was rendered by Balasaraswathy Devi, composed by CR Subbaraman; lyric by Thanjai N Ramiah Das (I believe) and goes like this "Anbe Pavama..Athil Eno." In the movie this song was sung by Lalitha (one of the Travancore sisters).

Hi All: Another request......from the movie "Pathala Bhairavi" written by Thanjai N Ramiahdas and composed by Ghantasala. Vocal by Jikki and co and goes like this " lalaloo...lalalloo..la.....Amanga..varunga..Komali..Mamanga Kelunga..." It looks like a 18th century Gypsy song (actually resembles a Waltz). Well tuned by Ghantasala. They have the song in Telugu and goes by "Vagalooi........ Vagalu"

SK: The song I requested from Haridas "Vazhvil Oor Thirunal", vocal by MKT; lyrics by Papanasam Sivan; composed by GR is actually a song by the Bengali Legend Kanan Devi in a Hindhi movie Vidyapathi; composed by RC Boral and goes like this "Loot Liyo Man..Kaun Rasaiya..Morere Man Bhaya" in 1939/40. I have all the songs of Kanan Devi recorded during my earlier vist to Middle East. GR/SMS just copied the same tune for Haridas. Incidentally RC Boral and Kanan Devi did the first duet for another film "Kismat"

On vaazhkai: The MLV song is nanda gOpAlanudan aaduvEnE I think. I have this too in PAL & will get to it eventually if no one else has this. This movie reminds me of a hilarious anecdote - TR Ramachandran the hero of the movie was introduced to one of the aatheenams (dharmapuri/thiruvAvaduthuRai/..) who asked him to sing a popular song from his movie (which was a big hit at that time). TRR demurred, but, at length, was persuaded to sing. The aatheenam was probably expecting a MKT/PUC song. Instead TRR went "tadada tadada tadada daa un kan unnai aemaRRinAl en mEl kObam undAvathEn?" One can only imagine the plight of the aatheenam on hearing this!!
I thought TMS's debut song is in Krishna Vijayam (1950)?
Vicky: That's kanniyin kaathali (not kaathalan). It's apparently a remake of Twelfth Night.
Devaki has a nice TL & PL duet - pErinbamE vaazhvilE neengaatha aanantham naam kaanavE. The song traces the rewards of the hero & heroine's hard work as they grow from owning a small teakkadai to a big estate.

Vicky,
TMS's song in Manthiri kumari is `Annamitta veetile kannakol', not ennerumai kannukutti.
The song you are looking for from Devaki (Perinbame vazhviley) is available at Music India on line listed under TL & P.Leela.

Vicky:
I have added pErinbamE vAzhvilE (dhEvaki)
to the rare ppp page. Recently I got to like these
two solos of P Bhanumathi:
viNNulakil minnivarum thArakaiyE pO pO (thenAli rAman)
unnai azhaiththadhu yArO (malaikkaLLan)
The first one is by Viswanathan-Ramamurthy. I don't
know the MD of the second one. Though on initial
hearing these songs did not make any impression, I
started liking them very much after a few times.
Nice melodies. I have added these also to the
rare ppp page.
