sk: Is there a place to upload songs that we can have access to? I used to put things on myplay/driveway & now both are gone. I have vaan mazhai indri & neela vaanam from ponmudi (both are GR & TV Rathnam duets). Also, the aayiram thalai song. This movie also has thoondil puzhuvinaipol (bharathiyaar, DK Pattammaal), senthamizh naadenum pothinilie (TRM) and a copied version of Noor Jehan's Jawan hai Mohabbat, haseen hai zamaana. Was this an AVM movie?

Whenever you want to share a rare old song with
others, encode it and send it to me by mail
with the details. (Send one song per email.)
I will make arrangements to put these songs in
the PPP-RA homepage or dhooL.com.
I don't think 1000 thalai was made by AVM.

SK: Your contribution to PPP is highly appreciated. Thanks for the link. On the Thunbam Nergayil.your info on one of the singers is correct. Aiyiram Thalai vangiya Aboorva Chinthamani was made by Modern Theaters-TR Sundaram. The actors were PS Govindan, S Varalakshmi (old Telugu film Balraju fame-acted with ANR 1949), VN Janaki (MGR' spouse)and ER Sahadevan (the famous villain of yesteryears. He was a contemporary of TS Balaiah who acted with PU Chinnappa in old "Uthamaputhiran" along with UR Jeevarathnam. VN Janaki's debut was in Mayakudhirai (another Modern Theatres production) and composed by G Ramanathan.

SK: I watched Ayiram Thalai probably 2-3 times in the early 80's. Does someone has a link to Bhanumati's song in Aboorva Sahotharargal "Manum Cholaium..Aadum Neram".

Sk: I was also looking for a song from AVM's (Penn)-1954. The song goes like this " Sonna Chollai Maranthidalamoe...va...va...". The artists were MS Rajeshwari and PS Bhagawathi and composed by R Sudarsanam. A great song..Actually they have a Telugu version of the song in Music India Online and sung by PSusheela and Balasaraswathy (Sangham-1954) and composed by RS.

sk: My email server puts a max limit of 2Mb for attachments. I think the average old song lasts about 3-4 min. I'm not sure if it can be fit into that limit even as an mp3 file. Still, I'll try it to see if it works.

SK: Thanks very much. I do appreciate that. I believe you should be having all these songs on tape or cd. Is there anyway they can be stored on your hard drive and play them without having to get to the leink everytime. Do you have this song "Mahan...Gandhi Mahan...." from AVM'S "Nam Iruvar" sung by MS Rajeswari and composed by RS. BTW I dont see the PS songs of the 50's such as Kanavanae Kan Kanda Theivam" and so on....Also I was looking for another one by PS. The song goes like this..."Undhan Azhagenna..Undhan Arivenna...Manamenna...Kobam Varalama..." I actuually dont know the movie. My guess is the composer is Vedha. Its one of the hit songs. I hope you can recall. One song I have been looking for is from the movie "Haridas" sung by MKT. Its the opening song and goes by "Vazhvil Oor Thirunal" running after PandariBai on a horse. GR and SMS scored this song. I see all the other songs except this one in PPP. Again thanks for the link.

SK: Would it be possible to have both "Oridinthanilae" and "Sonna Solai" song in mp3 format, so that it can be stored in hard drive...

I believe there are four songs in the 40-50's era which can be graded as best in "music tempo" (as they call it Jazz). The nuances and the way the way the score is written amazes me. In fact they are from three different composers who were exceptional in carving a niche for themselves. Thay are C R Subbaraman, S. Rajeshwar Rao, G Ramanathan and R Sudarsanam. The prelude and the interlude are in exact harmony with one another. The mezzo-sopranos who have rendered the voices to these compositions have fulfilled their promise to the composer. Tha songs are "Oridemthanilae Nilai Illa Ulaginilae" (VN Janaki and AP Komala- Annavin "Velaikari (starring MV Rajamma and MGR)- CR Subaraman; Sonna Sollai Maranthidalamoe (MS Rajeshwari and PS Bhagawathy)-R Sudarsanam; "Kannilae Irupathenna" (P Bhanumathy)-Ambikapathi/GRamanathan) and "Malligaipoo Jadhi Roja"- Balasaraswathy (Gemini's "Raji En Kanmani-starring SriRanjani Jr, Sriram and TR Ramachandran)-S Rajeswar Rao/G Ramanathan. I hope you guys agree......

vicky: Another alternative you can try is to download Total Recorder and record the songs as they're being played on realaudio - the net congestion etc. is not a problem as total recorder autopauses so there's no delay in the recording. It creates a wav file and has the capacity to encode into mp3 format (I think it needs a separate encoder such as music match - not sure about this). The wav file can be converted into an mp3 file using music match (free version) or other software separately. Total Recorder is available as a download for 12-15 US$. You should search for it on Google. I'm a satisfied consumer and have no relationship to this company.
I have some of the other songs you requested (haridas, pen, marumagaL etc but on PAL video - I'm currently figuring out how to record the soundtrack and will send these to sk once I've encoded them).
sk: I've put the ponmudi songs into mp3 & will email them to you. Frankly, I don't think either one is that good. Perhaps, there are other duets in ponmudi? To compensate, I've encoded a 3rd song - a Seerkazhi solo w/ humming by Jikki (not sure). thiruvE en dEviyE vaaraai from kOkilavAni (mus by GR, lyr:?) MP3 encoding is at 32-56 kb/s speed and may not capture the full magnificence of seerkaazhi's singing.
AFAIK, this song is not readily available. Hopefully, it's a pleasant experience for members of this forum.

Dear All:
I have created a page to collect rare goldies:
http://www.angelfire.com/pa3/ppp/rareppp.htm
I have added the songs sent by Kishore Krishna (kik).
I will add songs to this page as and when encoded versions
become available.
I do not have with me any of the other songs that
have been mentioned by Vicky and others in the
last couple of days. :-(

SK:Thanks. Its a very good idea to have this page. I believe that the two songs "Sonna Sollai" and "Oridinthanilae" is not in mp3 format. I definitely will be requesting songs that come to mind time and again. Does anyone know of a place in Madras where one can get these songs recorded or get some HMV tapes dating back to 1940's and 50's. Any information will be highly appreciated. There's another song from AVM's "Vazhkai" starring TR Ramachandran and Vyjayanthimala (her first movie in Tamil). Its sung by MSRajeshwari and goes like this "Enni Enni Parkum Manam Inbam Kondaduthae". The composer is R Sudarsanam. Actually the same song in Hindhi was sung by Lata (Composed by Husnalal Bhagatram and R Sudarsanam) and goes by "Chup..Chup.."
