I'm a new visitor to this website. I couldn't see anyone discussing about Vani Jayaram's songs.
Let me start this one.(It had been there previously pls. forgive me!)

  Thanks Karthi. I always hear TMS when I think Sivaji (in hindi it works with the Raj Kapoor-Mukesh jodi). You are so right - it is MVD - and such a good imitation of the TMS style it is! Thanks for pointing it out.

  No Naaz - thats not what I meant. Though she can handle criticism, its not a nice thing to do to give in a -ve report. Just 2 years ago, 5 students from my college (I was studying then) interviewed LM. Its a common thing that nobody likes her voice nowadays (including me.) But obviously you cant tell her that. Thats the reason I dont want my criticism to reach her - thats all. Not becoz I disrespect VJ (indeed I have great love for her voice).But all I feel is that no artist - LM,AB,VJ,IR,PS,SJ has been totally flawless or above criticism.
  
  Despite all the raw nerves I hit, and made you hit, I am definitely curious to know more about you and your background and how you managed to learn so many languages. And whether you are a member of a cultural centre or an embassy....
  
  
  PS - Soon after you had posted your query on Saawan ke geet (2 months ago I rhink), I had sent you a mail. I wonder if you have read it????

  May I also come to know more about the Vijayabhaskar - Vani combination in Kannada (apart from Neela or Bilee Hendthi) from you???
  
  I am sure you must have heard "Happiest Moment" from Bilee Hendthi. The first time I heard it, I did not believe my ears that it was VJ, the same Shankarabharanam lady.
  
  BTW how many songs has VJ sung totally. I know that #of songs is not so important for an artist like she is, but I am curious to know. I have heard its something like 7,000 but I dont know for sure.

  I think it is important for an artiste to have all perspectives - compliments and brickbats. It can only make them know that there are things that work and things that don't (for some listeners). Flaws can always be addressed and corrected. I know of VJ-Vijaybhaskar team's tamil efforts. Their Kannada efforts usually were with k.balachander films (remakes of tamil films). Have you heard the VJ solo from Maro Charitra (Ed Duujje Ke Liye) - music by MSV. It is available on musicindiaonline. "Vidhi Cheiya Vinthalanni" is the song (it is the title "Maro Charitra song) It is a gem.
  
  I am still awaiting details on Sawan Ke Geet and will pass them along as soon as I have them. Meanwhile, there is a new hindi bhajan album you might want to checkout called BhajanAmrit (released by Navrang Audio.) IT should be available in Pune/Mumbai I am sure.

  Penney Bhoomiyadi...The song from Manitharil Ithanai Nirangala....(Music:Shyam) is the song by PS/VJ or VJ/SJ?
  
  There was a three-et of sorts with Vani/SPB (or Illaiyaraja) and Chitra from the film Aruvadai Naal - something on the lines of Chinnaponnu Chinnaponnu (no, I am not thinking of the Malaiyur Mambatiyan song) - can someone give me a few more lines to that song...?
  
  The title song from Kanne Kaniamudhe was also a fine solo by VJ.
  
  A big hit in those days - Pandhayathile Kalandhirikurra Singara Kuyile - by VJ from the film Lakshmi (MD: IR)

  There is a SJ/VJ duet in thangka mahan. "Machanap paaradi". In picturaisation first SJ sings for Poornima and VJ for Anuradha. Then VJ for Poornima and SJ for Anuradha and after some time SJ for Poonima and VJ for Anuradha. I think director didn't have good music interest.

  that switcheroo in Macchana paaradi might have been somebody's brainwave (ayyio paavam!) - you know how tamil directors have them from time to time!!
  
  Onnu Rendu Moonu - is an interesting duet VJ (with BS Sasirekha?) from Kannil Theriyum Kathaigal (?) What about Innikkum Ilamai Yenidam Irrukku (S-G) from the film Innikkum Ilamai... quite popular when the film was released. Manajadi Kunnil (with KJY) from Manjil Virinja Pookkal (Malayalam) was also a really pleasing duet.
  There was a tappankuththu number (duet with MDV, I think) from Kunguma Chimizh - anybody remember how that goes?

  Still u didn't identify the song with the following line.

  I still have not got a reply from VJs music company. Till then can you tell me more about Gita Govindam and the album with Birju Maharaj (of holi songs.)
  
  Also are there any pure Hindustani or Carnatic tapes of VJ. Has she recorded ghazals apart from Parvaaz or holi songs, kajris,jhhoolas in any other album??

  that song from Ival Oru Pournami was quite interesting. The ending with the chenndai was quite unexpected. Ramki, Thanks for the Aruvadai Naal song. yes, now I can sing the first stanza!Ragavan, yendha paattu adhu? I am drawing a blank...AVR, I have no idea why you have not heard from the address. I will investigate and get back to you. Have not heard of any other "pure" classical albums. Gita Govindam is classical enough, I guess. So is Holi Songs with Maharaj.Both albums are great examples of VJ's range and superlative control. I listen to those songs almost every day. Did you at least find the Marathi albums in Pune?
  
  "Vaadathapoo Malliye Malliye" (?) from Kanni Rasi is a nice fast-paced number by VJ (SPB?) and her number for Chandrabose "Pacchapulla Azudhadhunna Paattu Paadalaam..." from a Parthiban/Seetha film (I forget the name) was also good. Thangamani Rangamani from Vidhuthalai was another fun tappankutththu number.
  
  Have not heard the name Kumari Padmini in so long! Good old Kutty Pads!

  Thanks for the confirmation, Ramki. That is another good solo to her credit!! Kaali Magamayee from Melmaruvathoor Mariyamma is another bhakti solo. What do you think of her songs from Sri Ragavendhra?
  
  There was an interesting VJ solo in the film Unnai Thedi Varuven (Directed by Sridhar -*ing sadhana and some other newcomers) It was a slow, bluesy number. Anyone know how that song goes?
