'mazhaithuli' itself is inspired by
'engaeyum eppodhum sangeetham santosham'.
(ninaithalae inikkum')
infact there is a long list of ARR getting 'Inspired' by many of the old tamil/hindi songs.
one of which is pallavi of 'vaarai en thozhi'(jeans) is nothing but
'oh mere sona rae sona rae'(old hindi sopng sung by Asha bhonsle)
ARR is the cleverest copier as he cuts and pastes different tunes in to a single song.

Well, the original of Ilayaraja's Murattu Kaalai number, 'entha poovilum vaasam undu' has been posted in the copied songs page. But for those who havent heard the tamil version...I've posted both the versions.
Just for the record, the original is by Spanish composer Antonio Ruiz-Pipo's 'Cancione et Danza: 2. Danza'. The opening portion of the tamil song is indeed inspired. The version of Pipo's Danza I've posted is however played by Italian Grammy winning guitarist, Sharon Isbin.

Sorry, but my message seems like an antagonised follow-up after that allegation on ARR. I didnt notice the message above mine before posting! I do consider the murattu kaalai number an absolutely exotic song. More than the opening portion there's a whole lot of song left which is IR's own and when I can see what miracles he can do with such a spark of an inspiration, I'm AMAZED at his imagination.

Just a note :-) I have seen this tendency of people praising IR immediately, after they point a finger at his copy. Seems like a defensive tactic. No need for this. Nalla nimirndhu ninnu sollunga. IR na enna ? Deva naa enna ? Copy adichcha copy dhaan :-)
Ok..But I do realize that IR is genius :-)

And another point - YSR is NOT immaculate. I can point out a lot of stuffs in his songs which are clear inspirations. 'll do later in future.

YSR's inspirations is what I'm dying to know for a long time. People keep making allegations against him in general but no specific instances have cropped up so far.
You could probably think of mailing me the details however small they might be. I can easily do the song search and post the originals via my site.
And I really meant that on IR. Endha poovilum is one of my personal faves....an absolute marvel of an composition!

I will be off for sometime I guess afte which I shall continue here and communicate with u regarding YSR.

Some coincidences, i noted down are,
1. starting lines of Roja Roja from "kadhalar Dhinam" ( ARR ) is very very similar ( may be exactly ) to the ending lines of Sippi irukkuthu mutthu irukkuthu ( En manathai nee ariya naan uRaitthaen...) from "Varumaiyin niram sivappu" ( MSV ).
2. Saranam of Sutthi sutthi vandheega from "Padaippaa" (ARR) ( en kaathu kadikkum kaadhu kadikkum pallukkum..... )is a direct lift ( or "heavily" inspired ??!! ) from the saranam of Thaandiyaa aatamum aada from "Kaadhalar dhinam"(ARR) ( enna vaarthai unthan vaarthai enru...)
3. Ohohoho kikku aeruthae from Padaiappaa ( ARR ) is very similar to Aayiratthil naan oruvan from Iruvar ( ARR ), atleast the starting lines and the entire music flow.
4. The chorus in the song "Maayaa machindraa macham paarka" from Indhiyan ( ARR ) is similar to the chorus in one of the song in "Jaihind" ( vidyaasaagar ). I dont remember the song.
5. Saranam of "Enakkoru sinegidhi sinegidhi" from Priyamaanavalae ( SAR ) ( especially the lines, "Sammathangal ullapothum, vaarthai ingu "and till the end of the saranam& same way for the next saranam also ) are exactly the same that to the saranam of "Aetho mogam, aetho thaagam" from Kozhi Koovudhu ( IR ) ( the lines "Paarvaiyaalae nooru paechu, vaarthai ingae moorchai aachu" ). Even the lines are also made ulta here.....
6. The pallavi of "Rosaapoo, rosaapoo" and even most of from Sooryavamsam ( SAR ), is similar to the pallavi of the song "kuyilae kuyilae poonguyilae" from Aanpaavam ( IR ).
7. The song " Iru Vizhi unathu, imaigalum unathu, kanavugal mattum enathae, enathu" from Minnale ( HJ ) is a direct lift from a song in Kaho na Pyaar hai, the song hrithik sings with a guitar at the beach side, i dont remember the song or lyrics.....

I read in another forum that Deva has lifted a song from a Malaysian pop band for one of his songs in Chocolate. Can any Malaysian friend throw more light on this? Which group and which song?

I had stopped entering the forum for the simple reason that it was too crowded with IR Talibans. Not many of them had the basic integrity to accept that their MD had indeed copied. I just scanned the forum disc recently.I find only Mr.Karthik and Mr.Ramki to be really worthwhile people to be part of a forum.Willing to discuss and understand and accept.Good work !90% of the lot seems be shallow, arrogant and have no ear for good music. All they seem to know in music is IR.Poor souls!IR is ONE of the good music directors that Tamil film industry has had.
Now coming to inspirations of IR one can find 'Ilaya Nila' follows the pattern of MSV's 'Senthamiz Paadum' from Vaira Nenjam. The interludes of Oru Vanavil pole from Katrinile varum geetham is a blatant lift from Qayyam's Kabhi Kabhi Mere Dile me.
EEramanaRojave starts very close Tere Bindiyare from Abhimann. Pudu Maapilaikku from Aboorva S'gal looks very close to Thillu Mullu,Thillu mullu.Because of the raga used Kovil Mani oosai and Van Megangale are heavily inspired from Gora Kaagazu tha e manu mera.IR's usage of flute largely follows the SD Burman who inturn had Bach and Mozart at the back of his mind all the time.
MSV has a bigger list too!So has Rehman! But these three men have a whole hearted and sincere approach towards music, the mark of good musicians.
Of the new lot Bharadwaj seems to have that.Vidyasagar pretends to be sincere. His Thinninthara(Poovellam un vaasam) is a copy of Shankar-Ganesh's Pullanguzhal mozhi Thamiz;other brindavana saranga song is a recycled tune from MSV's Oli pirantha Poothu mannil. But VS and Bharadwaj despite their limitations seems to present decent stuff.YSR seems to be in a hurry and pelts out ordinary stuff. But he looks a fine prospect if he stops listeneing to LAtin music and starts hearing GNB and Bach .But Karthik Raja has consistently failed to impress and is certainly a mediocre musician.
I am unfortunately away from India. Can anyone stop this SA Rajkumar?Atleast Deva (dubbed as the King of Copy) has a decent Orchestration style;but this man is a killer.Happy that Sirpy has been packed off!

Added the original of MSV's Paartha nyabagam illayao. As the copied songs page mentions in TFM, I couldnt locate any song of the name (or from the movie) Chase the crooked shadow. However the song is sure inspired by the classic oldie number 'Sway with me' sung by people like Dean Martin and Nat King Cole. I've added the version sung by Dean Martin.

YSR's Kadhal Website is inspired by 'Bailomos'(Check the spelling ;by Igletius). His Sinorita (Some Jyothika Movie) is again inspired by Latin Source,Ricky Martin.Despite the trash like Rishi he has the spark. But Karthik Raja has clubbed Jeans (Nityashree) song and Nijam pakku Ad to make one of the worst tamil songs of recent times ' Puyale,Puyale,Super Puyale'.His DUM DUM DUM must be a real jolt to IR himself.
I had the chance to listen to Manja kattu;it is YSR's version of 'Kurukku Chirurhavale'.Which inturn has traces of 'Nalai Ulagai Aalavendum' and 'Pardesi Pardesi Jaana Nahin'(Prob because of both Dha1 and Dha2.)
Harris J is Maragathamani II.Lots of initial promise but lacking the sufficient stuff to sustain. His 12B is pathetic. His understanding of carnatic music seems to be poor.
Baradwaj's Avaravar Vazhkayil is a matured attempt, particularly the Santoor strings leading the charanams shows that that man is very close to understanding the song moods which MDs like GR,MSV,IR,ARR had mastered. His Unnoduthan entha from Amarkalam is heavily inspired by IR's Kanmani Anbodu Kathalan.

I had heard the guitar pieces of 'Aayiram Malargale'(Niram maratha Pookal) somewhere.I suppose Mr.Karthik can help out.Is it Saturday Night Fever?
Similarly the Pallavi of Poovarasam poo poothachu and AasayaKaathula Thhothu Vittu resemble some English tunes i have heard before.
Annai Or Aalyam song's charanam starts very similar to Kallellam Manickka 's charanam 'Kamban Kanda Seethai unthan'.
The female solo version of Poovamma oorgolam, Nee yenge,En anbe will remind you of Kangal ernadum from Mannathi Mannan.
