  MKT films are available at Columbia Films - I got a bunch, but have watched only sivakavi (vathanamE chandrabimbamO, vasantha ruthu manamOhanamE, vaLLalai pAdum vAyAl, kavalaiyai theerpathu nAttiya kalaiyE, soppana vAzhvil mahizhnthu are the popular songs - if one can use the word 'popular' with songs from the 30s & 40s).
  
  There are 2 CDs of his songs available - 1 from EMI and the other is the pazhamai endrum inimai series. EMI also has several tapes out.

  Thanks RR for the web info abt M.K. Thyagaraya Bhagavathar. I have a LP which contains golden voice of M.K.T. My dad and grandma used to sing their songs quiet often. His life was interesting to read. N.S.K. has a statue errected years ago at T.Nagar.

  I have only listened to about ten songs from that list.
  
  SK - I'm sure you can get MKTB songs in Singapore. If you can, why don;'t you put up song in PPP. If you can't - yet another reason for you to come to Malaysia and visit Columbia Films. :-)))

  you are doing an admirable job in bringing such goldies to the net. I always loved those MKT songs when my father used to listen to them on our first stereo set we bought about couple of decades ago. I still remember those songs like

  krishna muguntha murare...
  
  If i recollect properly, my father used to say MKT,NSK and some other front line actors got their life messed up by some alleged connection to a murder case , some thing called 'aazhavandar murder case..' or so.

  ALG Rao - I don't think there is much of a Tamil population in Delhi.
  Things are different here in Malaysia.
  Columbia Films has an excellent stock of old movies and songs and in fact hold worldwide copyright for many old films. And then there are others like Alai Osai, Mani Osai, etc.

  1. I was going through the old messages and some time in September it was posted that (Kishore Krishna?) that *kalyaanam panni paar* appears
  to have been made close on the heels of missiamma. And the music was attributed to S. Rajeswara Rao. No, its a 1952 release, Ghantasala being the MD for both: Telugu (*peLLi chEsi chooDu*)and Tamil Versions. Missamma/missiamma came in 1955. Well, even if you consider the fact that *Missamma* got delayed (Initially Bhanumati was booked as Heroine
  and few reels were shot, before Chakrapaani sent her out and gave that role to Savitri), theres more than 2 years difference. To be more precise:
  Vijaya's first 4 films and the teams were planned way back in '49.
  
  2. The boat song from *Maayaa bazaar* (1957). Even in Telugu the last stanza didn't comeout on disk. One can hear it only in film. I personally have recorded the last stanza from film track. Incidentally it was Saluri Rajeswara Rao who was initially assigned MD job. After composing 4 songs (including the above one) he left for not exactly known reasons. Ghantasala took over, composed rest of the songs and took care of orchestration for those SRR's 4 tunes.
  
  3. Could someone give biog. details about MD: S.V Venkataraman! Apart from *miiraa* and *navajiivanam* in Tamil, I am aware of a couple of
  Telugu films from him from early 40s (*talliprEma*, 1943) thru early 50s
  (pEdaraitu, '52).
  
  4. Also does anyone have details about MDs: SB Dinakara Rao and Moti Babu (not the singer T.A Moti).
  
  5. Could someone pl. give Columbia Films's address
  in USA (preferable would be a German address, but I wonder if they had a branch here)!

  Sreenivas: I apologize for the error - I meant kadan vAngi kalyAnam not kalyAnam panni Paar. Basically I watched them one after the other and confused the two. BTW, most kalyAnam films appear to be comedies - kalAttA kalyAnam, kalyAnam panniyum brahmachAri, kalyAna kalAttA...
  
  SVV composed music for aRivALi (sivAji, bhAnumathi) as well.

  The latter 2 appear to be stores in the US - jai hind seems to be sourcing from Columbia Films. Desivideos' prices are quite high compared to the rest. As a satisfied customer, I'd recommend CF to everyone - got a lot of MKT movies, some PUC (kaNNagi, mangaiyarkkarasi, uththama puthiran), MS Subbulakshmi (Meera, Sakunthalai, Savithri), 1000 thalai vAngiya aboorva chinthamani, madanakAmarAjan, vEthAla ulagam etc.
  
  Guys, if you watch old movies pl. post a review with a list of songs if possible on the principle that yAm peRRa inbam peRuga ivvayyagam:-) And if you're wondering, I've watched only sivakavi so far. It's been discussed before which is why I'm not reviewing it. About the rest, I'll review when I get back from India early next year.
  
  NOV, even in Tamilnadu it's difficult to get the range of stuff that's available with CF - I looked last year and didn't find anything.
