I'm a new visitor to this website. I couldn't see anyone discussing about Vani Jayaram's songs.
Let me start this one.(It had been there previously pls. forgive me!)
"Ezhu swarangalukkul ethanai paadal..
Ithaya surangathul ethanai kelvi...
Vaazhum manitharukkul ethanai salanam.."
Wow! Beautiful voice!

Have anyone hear the song in Enga Oor Kanagi a song by vani with LR Eswari
The song is Adhi Athi Adhi Kanne Soki

Susi - I have heard that "quartet" from Kudumbam oru Kadambam. VJ and UR both had solos which were popular from the same film: Balanagamma. The UR song "Palliaraikkul Malligaiyai Alli Iraikka" was requested often on the radio shows. I personally preferred "Sangitham En Degham Andro" by VJ as it was based on a rare carnatic raga. It was, of course, another effortless piece-of-cake for the classically trained VJ. Even that song is not available on the net!! :-((

What do you guys think about the song Manthopo Kiliye machane paru (the laughing and giggling in this song by vani is so natural).

on: Fri Mar 15 10:14:06 EST 2002
Priya - Hi, I checked out the "clip" from Raajangham - for the Sangeetham Yen Degham - It was all of 1.43 mins!! VJ sang the first line - and then it was over!! Same for the Manmadha Raagangale song from the same movie! Such a waste - I wish I could hear both those songs - in their original length.

susi - VJ had a solo in the SV Sekhar and Ramya Krishnan movie (her debut film) - I can't recall the name or the first line of the song...Do you remember the song? It was an interesting number...music was by S-G...Let me know if you have the details.

Naaz, I did not remember how long the samples were. I had heard it last year sometime. Sorry about that!

susi - the song is "aathora nilave agaya malare, eerezhu vayase neeradudhey..." Another evocative number. I can't get the name of the film...

Naaz,
In the song ilangkaiyin iLangkuyil, in the soft way VJ sings "enRum intha bhUmiyilE unakkAga nAn piRappEn" you can absolutely sense the feeling of love. And in the way VJ shoots up in pitch in the next line "nIthAn en thuNaivan enRAl nURu jenmam nAn eduppEn" you can sense the wish and the uRuthi that comes from the bottom of the heart. Talk about singing the lines actually feeling them!
And the chemistry VJ's voice, also the voices of her contemporaries PS and SJ, had with the male voices they were singing with is something missing from almost all singers today.
I had never before listened to two of the songs that were aired today. One from pAlkAri (kAmadhEnu kanniyAga) and the other from 47 nALgaL (thottuk kattiya maappiLLai). And it is always a thrill to listen to radio because you don't know what song is coming next(trying hard to not sound like Gump).

Yes, Neel D. Most singers today are so interchangeable (if that is indeed the appropriate word.) The whole issue of "character" attached to voices is of a bygone era. The commitment to pronunciation, subtlety and soul in singing seems lost these days. Everything is so song-of-the-day and then the next. I was thinking the same thing: who can I compare in the current crop to VJ? I couldn't come up with one name.
I had never heard the song from Unnidathil Naan (Ninaiththaal Unaithaan Ninaithaen) - quite a memorable number. I have been humming it all day - even though I heard it for the first time this morning. KJY-VJ are so clear and in control in that song. I had also not heard the song from Panam Penn Pasam in a long long time. The song from Prema Pasam was also very new to my ears. I am so glad I got to the programme - it was a treat.
The one thing about VJ that still astounds me is this: how is clarity and emotion possible in such high pitches? How does she do it? It is truly a godgiven gift.

Part of the blame, if not the root cause is the lack of standards in the lyrics - how does it matter who sings such godawful forgettable songs?
In fact I'm thankful VJ doesn't sing these.
The clarity and emotion in VJ's songs - I notice this particularly on some of her devotionals as well(ambigai varuvaal, kunguma naayaki).

It was a remake of a telugu movie.one important thing about this movie is MSV and KJY got reunited.
Valees lyrics "Vasapadi thandi vitta pasam poguma thazambuvai doora vecha vasam poguma" was KJY s song with MSV after a gap of 5-6 years.
