guys,
Now that the thread is nowhere near where it should be, I would like to ask something...
I notice that people start listening to Rock -music and after a while they don't seem to like pop music anymore, any idea why this happens?
(Bharath mentioned this in one of his posts too...)

since ur incredulity supercedes ur reason u cartainly will not take the following in the correct sense! oh well.. anyway
"valid new point" abt arr's music has been extensive covered. Most of what I know people have already talked about!
in ur opinion "valid new points" are always a composers perspective. It wud look as if arr can be discussed among his own kind.
my postings have been significantly controversial which means that my "valid new points" are fiercelly debated
# 2.
ur answer indicates that I am a zombie unable to form own opinions and the reason why I speak to distrubutors or ganpathy stores salesman is to get their expert opinion on how musical quality of the cassatte is.
the above thing if done by any person is clearly ridiculous. but u imagine that a person of average intelligence does not know it and u have special skills to discern it...
in effect u r typecasting me to the role u hate and then trying to fit me there.
this clearly shows how u think of not just me but other mortals in general. At first i thought u were saying this delibrately but strangely u do seem to believe what u say!
like anyone else on this planet i clearly listen to the stuff b4 i buy or like. The reason I speak to those distributors is to get more inside info on how the music I like/dislike is doing? not to decide on a personal opinion!
My most "valid new point" since I participated in this forum has been to urge techie guys like u to look beyond the intensly focussed view points u have created for urself and understand that reality is more different.
//"like you have known tamil film music to the core"//
ur assumption not mine! u really seem to hate my guts! again u cannot unearth any crtique by me with regds to technicalities of music and tell me that I spoke w/o qualification .
answers do have points! u r discounting that.

U:
u dont seem to understand "poor mans.." wel.. I like princ a lot. liking MJ is not akin to thinking that he is the only true musician in the world.
almost every musician who has lifted a guitar knows that prince is a genius! no one contests that.
when i say MJ is good. u r saying no no prince is good. 2 irrelevant things.
rolling stones magazine in 1992 had a 4 page review mostly hovering on MJ's composing skills.
see... magazine references r aplently. the point is to me some are more equal than others. to me MJ is more equal .
I was simply trying to say MJ's skills as a composer is underestimaed. but u suggest something like beethovan knew wcm better than mike!
fact is prince had too many idosyncracies

1)why my analysis of arr differs from others and

i'd really like to know and i'd appreciate if u take the time to tell me!

I was not blaming u but only analysing why u have the wrong opinion about me.
if the word "ridiculous" misled u than please understand that I was referrring to the conept not u.

//Q. Despite your success you do not seem to be working on a lot of films?
A. Rather than making money I believe in making people happy, all other things are secondary. That is why I am not interested in al Lot of movies but only in one at a time. I like directors whom I can vibe with. Ten years of experience in this field has made me quite frustrated. I've evolved a technique, which requires a lot of time. Other music directors record a song in 7-8 hours. But I am different. We do a basic sitting and we record it. We record the voice and I add instrument by instrument to improve the quality.//
So it takes some time for his next album.

I am really sick of ARR comparing his way of composing music with others in each & every interview. If he takes pain to get the end result, so be it. That trick works for him and I don't belittle his effort. But is it really wrong composing whatever comes to your mind naturally instead of forcing yourself? He tries to say that his method is the best or something. That is really annoying.

arr interview i found in msn.com
At the outset, is it true that you have worked with Michael Jackson on a single titled Ekam Satyam?
Yes. I have worked with Michael Jackson on this single. The track composed by me is part English and part Sanskrit. The Sanskrit portions written by A R Parthasarathy have been rendered by me while the English lyrics written by Kanika Myer Bharat have been rendered by Michael Jackson. It will be released sometime during the end of this year as a single, though I am given to understand that Jackson is considering including it in his forthcoming album Invincible.
How did the song happen in the first place?
To tell the truth, initially it was penned especially for the MJ And Friends Concert, which was held in Munich in June 1999. However, since it became immensely popular among Jackson fans in the West, I am told it has been decided that the song--the duet sung by Jackson and myself--will be released as a single.
Did you expect that the music scored by you for Lagaan would click in such a big way?
To tell you the truth, the music of Lagaan was a real surprise for me. I'd not hesitate to say that Lagaan is a path-breaking movie, which does not stick to one genre of filmmaking. I'd give the whole credit for the success of the music of Lagaan to Aamir Khan who was simply fabulous as a producer. He knew what exactly he wanted and had the courage of conviction. I kept in mind the script of Lagaan when I composed the music for the film. I am getting good feedback from people for my music in Lagaan.
Would you admit that your music had started sounding stereotypical some time ago?
To some extent, I plead guilty to the charge that you have mentioned. My first film Roja was very futuristic. After Roja I tended to be very repetitive and stereotypical as a music director because most of my films had numbers which were dance-oriented.
In the past three years, I was very keen on working on period music. I could get that opportunity with Lagaan. You see it is difficult to set your mind to the Chennai audience and the audience in Mumbai. I do confess that I was struggling to come out of the rut in that I started finding myself in. It was very difficult to come out of it.
Why do you insist on working in only your studio in Chennai?
Chennai is my home. It is much more peaceful to work on one project there in Chennai than take up ten projects in Mumbai and not concentrate on them. A creative person should crave for more and never be satisfied. If he is satisfied then it will only mean the end for him.
Do you insist on singing in your voice in every film for which you compose music?
I sang for the first time in my career in Roja. I had actually sung as a dummy voice. However, the first time I sang as a playback singer was for the film Bombay.
Is it true that you had a complex about singing?
Yes. That's only because I think singing requires a totally different energy. I am more interested in composing for films than singing. I used to have a complex about my voice and never even dared to sing for any film of mine till I happened to hear the late Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan. I felt that if he could create wonders with his voice, I could also definitely try my hand at singing at least once in a way. Singing actually needs a lot of practice on your part. It is not easy.
Do you prefer to compose when you get the lyrics or do you ask your lyricists to write according to the tune you have?
Most of the times I have a tune ready with me when I set out to compose for a film. Sometimes I tell the director about a particular idea of mine. Sometimes, they too come up with fresh and innovative ideas.
Don't you feel it is risky as a music director to dare to give breaks to new, raw singers?
To tell you the truth, initially, I was bored with the routine. I respect all the senior singers whether here in Mumbai or in Chennai, but at the same time I also feel that they were actually blocking all the new singers as far as opportunities are concerned. Ninety per cent of the time it has worked when I have dared to introduce a new voice in the industry.
Why have you recorded very few songs with Lata Mangeshkar like in Dil Se?
Believe it or not, Lata Mangeshkar is so senior an artiste that I am actually very scared to go near her as a composer and ask her to sing a song.
The songs that you have composed for Nayak seem to be rehashes of your earlier compositions. Why?
Out of the five songs that I have composed for Nayak, three are based on my own songs from the Tamil original called Mudhalvan.
Shankar, who directed Nayak, The Real Hero had also directed the original Tamil version Mudhalvan. He felt that since the original score had become a rage down south, we ought to use the same tunes when we decided to make the film in Hindi.
Do you think music can affect society?
Why not? A song like Choli Ke Peechay in Khalnayak affected everybody. A popular song can definitely affect society.
What are your future plans?
Asoka, which is being directed by Santosh Sivan for producer Shahrukh Khan, will be released soon. You will get to hear different music from me in Asoka too. In some of my other forthcoming movies, I am even contemplating upon composing ghazals.
What is your motto in life?
Search is more important than destination.
How is your music shaped in Nayak, The Real Hero?
My music will definitely compliment the film. Five songs of mine have been picturized on the hero and the heroine, while one single song has been picturized as a background song.
To what extent do you believe in God?
To a large extent. I am of the opinion that you do not gain anything by putting pressure on yourself. It is God's will and God takes all your pressures off your mind as and when He wants to do so. (PTI)
