All of us would have had the experience of having been emotionally affected (moved, exhilirated, etc.) upon listening to a song (some song or the other). So, why don't we put down the songs that have affected us so, and also mention what feelings the song(s) evoked in us, upon hearing it...

one song that i often repeat to myself whenever i face a difficult situation is "nalam vazha ennallum en vazhutukal" and especially the words "oru vaasal mudi maru vaasal vaippan iraivan" how true are these words?
neela vaana odaiyil from vaazhve mayam is another song that never fails to impact me whenever i hear it. spb alone could have brought so much of emotion to that song. in the same movie, kjj sang vaazhve maayam. the song i think was by vaali. although there was an exhibition of his command over the language, some thoughts like "undaanadhu rendala than oor povadhu naallaladhan" evokes very strong feelings.
talking of two, how can one forget the evergreen classic by PBS in vazhkai padagu where "oruvarin thudipinele villaivadhu kavidhaiyada, iruvarin thudipinele villaivadhu mazhalayada" hats of to the lyricist, the md and pbs of course

When Annakkili was released, the songs were reached each and every corner of villages. I think, that was the time, most of the public sound system guys changed their stylus in the gramophone (no cassette concepts that time, before that you hear more noise than the song !!!) and bought new records. In villages, there is no police restrictions for timings. So, for any functions, they keep playing songs throughout night. We can hear songs from the house, sometimes it comes from next village.
Most of the nights, 'Annakili unnath theduthe' song, SJs sweet and melodious voice used to come from long distance in the air (natural). It's a great feeling to enjoy that song. I still recollect the same feeling whenever I hear that song.

Even the song by PS from Idayakamalam that is "unnai kaanatha kannum kaanala" is a real touching song.
Enna sattham inda neram from Punnagai mannan is also one. Poonal pogattum poda is another classic. Yezhu swarangalukul from Aboorva ragangal is a song that lingers in our mind.

Iradai:
PBSreenivos once told me that the greatness of Kannadasan is his ability to project a great philosophy with the simplest words. He quoted this song that you had pointed out.
I agree that Ponal Pogattum Poda is an exdcellent song. MSV and Kannadasan went to Sudukaadu to get the feeling, mood and the vibration to compose the music. They were able to listen to howling, etc-typical of sudukaatu satham. Later MSV used Sathan to produce the same sound. This is in so far as the musical composition is concerned.
The pallavi started off when Kannadasan's brother ALS refused to give him some money.

If you really wish to be "affected" by lyrics,
you NEED "Dallakku Dol Dappi ma Kanne Gangamma.."
Its pathetic you don't even know what it means. Its a translation of the song "Wanupenda Malaika" in Kiswahili by the Fahari Band. It means, Shove Tamil lyrics up its....(followed by music).
Don't forget, Achakkunna Achakkudhaan, Gumukkunna
Gumukkuthaan. Keep an eye on this space for further enlightenments.

When I'm totally misunderstood or if my casual words hurt someone deeply and I'm left in a helpless situation that is beyond reproach, I think of the song:
"Mayakkam Enadhu Thaayagam, mounam enadhu thaai mozhi", especially the lines: naanae enakku pagaiyaanaen, en naadagaththil naan siraiyaanaen. Could there be a better way to say I have shot myself in the foot?

Thokkathil paadhi ,ekkathil paadhi
pOnadhu pOga edhu meedham
Udambu enbadhu uNmayil enna

2. "Thozhvi nilaiyena ninaithaal"
3. "Manithan maarivittaan"
4. "Oruvan oruvan Muthalaali" - Muthu, especially these lines...
"Bumiyai vella ayutham etharkku, Poo parikka kodali etharkku, Ponno porulo porkalam etharkku, Aasai thuranthaal aghilam unakku"
"Mannin meley manithanukku aasai,
Manithan meley mannukku aasai,
Mannthaan kadaisiyil jeyikkirathu..."
Such a ring of truth to those words. Simply put but with a great punch-line!
5. "Netru Illatha Maatram" - Puthiya Mugham, especially "Kaadhal illatha vazhvil nesam undaguma"
6. "Ezhuthugiren oru kavithai" - Kalki

It was a dull evening after 2 tough days of unsuccessful debugging. I was on my way back to home. I was mentally dumb due to the frustrating work and I was playing my own IR hits collection in walkman! Though it had Freq. equalizers & Mega Bass etc, I never tuned them properly and I always use them to get maximum volume out of it. But this particular time I had to tune them down as my walkman was running low on battery and I know that tuning off many features gives me more playing time.
At that time, the song 'dhEvanin kovil moodiya nEram' just started and I felt tht the song is reflecting my mood. And, the first interlude was about to start and I just pushed the trebile down.
Oh my goodness. Where was this bass guitar hiding before? When did it join the flute? A marvellous transition with the church bell and with the fast progressing beats, I felt a fresh suppy of blood flooding my brains! It simply took away my senses and changed my mood entirely! And this song touched me/my soul/my feeling somehow!
Lovely lyrics and nice pace! In the second interlude that 'thandhana thandhana thana..'...Its very lively! Chitra's soul-full voice! Lovely orchestration! And it made me to realize the fact why IR fan finds it difficult to enjoy others music!
A guitarist finds his favorite string section!
A flutist finds his favorite haunting melody!
A violin lover enjoys many layers of his favorite!
And still there are more: chords, KB, rythm, pace, soul, melody and important fact is its all mixed very well in a enjoybale way!
