I happened to read a hilarious interview by the copy-king of HFM - anu malik!
".....
My creative juices are flowing overtime and I am going through what appears, to me, to be my most intensely creative phase. I am proud of the work I am doing. ...."
Are you "proud" of stealing someone's work and taking credit for the same Mr.Malik??
".... Then you have Ishq and Viraasat, the two other big hits of that year. Both were mine and their music has shattered records..."
Viraasat had some great songs and the songs were all hits, but the best of the lot, Payaale chun-mun, is a take-off of our maestro's Inji Idupazhagaa in Thevar Magan. Most songs in the album were note-by-note lifts from Thevar Magan. How can anu Malik get soo shameless and call the music as his own "mine"????
The complte interview can be found in

Believe all the songs of MD Veda were copied - mostly from Hindi ?

Another song from Virasat was a ditto of 'rAkku muthu rAkku' from ejamAn.

Pg:
Do you mean the song Dol Bhajne Laga ( Sung by Kavita Krishnamurthy? - it has a catchy beat( heard the song for the first time recently and have been wondering where the source was) and unlike AMalik's general output - there is some continuity in the song-(AMalik has a problem with continuity in most of his songs IMO).
Digression:
Any idea of the origin to a song from one of his earlier films starring Sharukh Khan and Urmila - the song goes bichu..bichu (A Bhonsale(?) - the songs is catchy.

Hi,
The main difference between Anu Malik and Deva is that the former unflinchingly copies the same track more than 1 time like he did to Los Del Rio's Macarena in Auzaar and some other film.
But our Deva copies only once with the exception of Khaled's Didi which he has copied in Vedan and Arunachalam

The above song from the film Chamatkar is a direct copy of an english song by Dr. Dot or Dr. Dollit.
Anu Malik can't be original.
The famous "yeh Kalli Kalli ankhen" opening few lines is also copied from a spanish song which I heard in some spanish channel long time back.

I had really loved Veesum Kaatrukku from Ullasam, by Karthik Raja until I saw a trailer for Pocohontas on the Disney Channel. The song and it's instrumentation is a total lift from it's counterpart in the movie!

Just heard a Thyagaraja kruthi 'manasa...'. It is exactly identical to 'Manam virumbudhe unnai unnai' from Nerukku Ner. Devaaa you are just great !!!

And one more. I just the song Manasae Manasae kuzhapamenna from Nenjinilae Music by Deva. The beat and tune is lifted from Veesum Thendral Kaatrinilae - Monalisa. But the tune itself sounded so familiar to me. Any body else who has tuned to this song? Comments please.

Kamesh: Did you hear Garuda Garuda En Idhayathai Thirudikondaay from Natpukaaga? Both Manase Manase and this are in MADHYAMAAVATHI RAGA, but they both sound very similar. Deva then through in some instrumentation, beats and interludes from Veesum Thendral in KARAHARAPRIYA RAGA(The Mother Raga of Madhyamaavathi) and hence Manase Manase occurred:)
Isn't he great at Mix and Match, Cut and Paste e.t.c!

dkjdhfjalkdj, ;)
I was fuming while reading the interview of this MD who thinks he's the best gift to mankind. God, how conceited can you get? I have also noticed that in every interview, this guy never fails to plug-in his flop solos (be it a pop album like 'eyes' or a title track for a flop film).
This reminds me of one of Anand-Milind's earlier interviews to Doordarshan, where they were bragging about a copy of Rakkamma Kaya thattu. Without batting an eyelid, one of the guys said that they were snapping their fingers, and suddenly the beat emerged, and then the tune. They liked the snapping of fingers and decided to retain it in the studios at the last minute!!!!
Remember the snappig sound in Rakkamma Kayya Thattu and Tuttutu Tuttu Taara? Shameless fellows. And the girl who was interviewing was all over them, singing praises!!!
Wow, the Anu Maliks are here and the Bhappi Lahiris are passé.

I remember Cho's dialogue in Md bin Tuglaq as a humorous rejoinder that A-M or AM can give to all those who say they are copy-cats or no good - "Yenna saivai !!" which transaltes in decent language to "What the @@# can u do ?"
That has been the charecteristic stance of AM more than A-M (who incidently accepted that IR was is the source for his "inspirations")

Hi
There is a telugu film titled 'Pedaraydhu'. I am wondering if this movie is a remake of 'Naadaanmai' because the 'kotta paaku' song is there but the music is credit to Koti. Does anyone know?
- From: Shankar (@ netcache1.mot.com)
on: Wed Jul 21 04:22:32 EDT 1999
aruvi,
Yes. it's the same movie. The highlight of the movie is rajnikant plays vijayakumar's role in the telugu version.
>>but the music is credit to Koti.<<
This happens. for the hindi gentleman (The gentleman), credit went to anu malik!!!!

It is indeed a remake of Naattamai. Rajni played the role of PEDDA RAAYUDU in this Telugu version.
It has become very common for Telugu filmmakers to copy the movies scene-by-scene along with the songs from Tamil and if it does well in Andhra, they'll sell it off, lock, stock and barrel to Hindi makers like David Dhawan. So, you will soon get to listen to the Hindi version of the above song.

Guys,
(Usually) The film Producer owns the right of the story, screenplay and the music of a film. So, when he re-makes it in another language (or sells the right of re-making to somebody else), he DOES HAVE the right to ask a different music director to score the original song for this new movie.
(provided, the Producer owns the remake/music rights, which is the usual case). He need not even mention the original music director's name in the movie (of course, only legally, not morally :)

I believe even Ilayaraja resorted to copying- try "kanavu kaanum vaazhkai" . I dont remember the movie name. But it is ditto from hindi song kasme vade pyaar etc. I think we should enjoy the song without worrying about copy , tea etc. Why waste time and energy when you can enjoy thehe songs?

The starting flute piece of the song "Ennai vilai azhage" from Kadhalir Dinam(MD: ARR) is heavily inspired from the Titanic theme.
Another of ARR's recycles: Suthi Suthi Vandeeha from Padayappa is very similar to the "Pachai kiligal" song from Indian.

on: Fri Sep 10 17:55:59 EDT 1999
SRK, suthi suthi only same santham, common MD trick. No problem.
ARR use 'Ottagatha kattikko' santham several times, 'kappaleri poyaachchu'(indian) , the malayalam piece in 'nenjinile' (Uyire) (maaran ninne....) , the hulla gulla song in Bombay (all have same metre , Ottagaththa kattikko metre).
No blame ARR alone,IR also done several time. Oru kola KiLi sodi thanna theduthu theduthu maane (uzhaippaaLi) same metre as 'Oru gundumani' from avatharam. Another 'Kaththirunthu Kaththirunthu kalangal poguthadi' same metre as 'thooliyile aadavantha vaanathu min vilakke' and many more.

the first line of the song 'banno rani' in the film 1947-earth is just a faster version of the famous mukesh/RK number 'jeena yahaan marna yahaan', albeit the rest of the song is different. ARR is too smart to lift an entire number;))
