but geetha , the company that released the cassette IS the most authentic source of info. As against the CD u have (which has a somgs from MVU, simmarAsi and ~(simmarasi,MVU):-) , my cassette has just the MVU songs!!! So , which one is more authentic?????
>>as in this forum, IR is not even allowed to re-use a song of his that is not liked by you
guys and if someone disputes it, it becomes an arguable point!<<
Sorry to disappoint u , geetha, this time i'm not gonna argue with u :-)))

'aruNa kiraNa' from Guru : isn't it a recycle of 'vidiya vidiya nadanam sandhOsham' from idhaiyathai thirudAdhE ?

PG, the song RAAKKAMMAA has this "Jangu Jakku chajakku jakku" and the song Rojaappoo aadivanfhadhu from Agni Nakshatram, starts with "choan chachha chachaon" - is the Rakkamma song recycled from AN ?!! -----))))))))))))))))))))))))))))

Madhan :
It may be. I have to listen to them again.
Go home and listen to both the songs I mentioned :
the guru song and i.t song. The orchestration is different but the pallavi is exactly the same.
It hurts to find out that a much-praised song is derivative in nature but netRikkaN thiRandhAlum...

pg,
vidiya vidiya nadanam is set in sindhubhairavi and aruna girana is not. also i believe the beat or the thala is also different. experts can clarify. the first 2 or 3 alone words might sound similiar in rhythm, but this in no way proves that it is a recycle.
- From: rajaG (@ kcecfp02.sprint.com) on: Mon May 10 16:35:07 EDT 1999
vijay,
You are absolutely right. vidiya vidiya (jagada jagada jagadam) is in fact set in sindubhairavi and is 4/4 beat cycle. Whereas aruNa kiraNa is a mixture of keeravaaNi and is set in 7/8 (misrachaapu) beat cycle. A mere two or three common phrases do not make a copy song.

heard in houston airport the original of the dappaanguththu number thagithiththam thaan annaachchi from kaadhalaa kaadhalaa.. the pallavi was there note by note. it was a wonderful jazz number with sax lead and piano too. hate to think that KR too resorts to such cheap tricks:(
- From: SRK (@ tan7.ncr.com) on: Mon Jun 14 10:25:17 EDT 1999
bb: KR was also heavily "inspired" by "Nothing's gonna change my love for you" in the song indha sirupennai from Naam iruvar namakku iruvar.

Some song in Ullaasam had strong influences of Enigma II in the interludes. Appave enakku KR mela irundha edhirpaarpellaam pochu! I was in fact surprised when many in newtfmpage discussions were hailing him!

The interlude(s) of 'Nilvai Kondu Vaa' song from Vaali is an exact reproduction of 'Kaakkai Siraginile..' song from Ezhavathu Manidhan.

For a change, deva kiteendu kooda copy adika aalunga irukaanga. the new MDs of the hindi movie have copied "edho oru paatu en kaadhil ketkum" in the movie Mann. It'll be very funny if deva says "yen paatai thiruditaanga"!!
- From: MS (@ 129.252.22.112) on: Thu Jul 8 16:58:25 EDT 1999
Chandy:
A couple of "errors" in your posting :-)
(1) First it was not copied from Tamil to hindi, but FYI from Hindi to Tamil. Hey wait, I am not saying that it was copied from "Mann". It was copied from the song "Thera Mera pyaar amar" - an oldie by Lata.
(2) The song was not by Deva, but S.A.Rajkumar
IMO Deva is a million times better than the hindi film music directors (save Jatin - Lalit). He has a lot of original scores too to his credit.

MS,
Yup, its a hindi -> tamil -> hindi recycled-copy!
I stand corrected!

"Anandam Anandam" from Poove unakkaga has its pallavi lifted from an instrumental piece from Laxmikant-Pyarelal's
'Aksar koi ladki' from Bobby.
- From: Hrishikesh (@ 202.144.10.93) on: Fri Jul 9 23:04:17 EDT 1999
Hi,
The MD's of Mann are Sanjeev-Darshan who are the sons of Shravan of Nadeem-Shravan fame who were not the most original composers around . So the sons are following in their father's footsteps !!
I also wonder why SAR's scores all sound the same !!! Even his song in Swayamvaram in which all actors and actresses dance I think is blatantly lifted from some Punjabi bhangra song which I'm unable to place exactly .
Recent bit of news is that IR has backed out from doing the rerecording score for Swayamvaram hence we will have SAR doing the rerecording .

Now that NOV has expressed concerns (:-)) over the lessening of ARR - bashing in the forum, I take the reins :-)
If anybody was watching channel 03 (Discovery news - I think), he/she would have noticed that there was one lengthy documentary on the "millenial return" of Jesus. The program was about the Jerusalem and how holy it is considered by Jews, Muslims and Christians. It also predicted that a major riot will start in the names of the religions if the GOVT of Israel does not take preparative action. Okay, what does this got to do with ARR ?
The background music played at one point was EXACTLY the "Bombay Theme". I do not know if ARR got "inspired" by some tune he found accidentally, and used it as "his" composition. The tune was note by note the same.
I have given so much description about the programme because I felt somebody would have seen it and be concurrent with my thoughts. We were five in the room and nurtured the same opinion.
Regards
MS

Kanavu kaanum vaazkai yaavum a song in Neengal keatavai is a copy of the song Mera Jeevan Kora kaagaz a hindi one. I am surprised that Deva was active at that time !!!
- From: Neels (@ 202.54.125.174) on: Mon Jul 12 05:03:55 EDT 1999
Kamesh,
It's not Mera Jeevan Kora Kaagaz, but 'Kasme Vaade Pyaar Vafaa'
The original was by Kalyanji Anandji and I feel IR and this duo exchanged the above song with 'Ilaya Nilaa Pozhigirathe' from Payanangal Mudivathillai (Hindi: 'Neele Neele Ambar Par' from the movie, 'Kalakaar', a remake of the Tamil Hit)
MS: Bombay's BGM appeared in the 'Sound of the Asian Underground' album by Talvin Singh. Probably the documentary 'lifted' it from there considering the nature of India's copyright laws(giving a benefit of doubt to ARR ;)

This is the n - th time that song is being quoted in the forum :-) (NOM to you)
- From: kooththan (@ mail1.pmc-vacc.com) on: Mon Jul 12 13:56:49 EDT 1999
The Bombay theme is not very original,
There are two parts to this these, the first part on the flute and the second part on the violins.
The first part is a slower version of a 'kaavadi sinthu' I have had on 'naathaswaram' for ages. The second part is a direct lift of the title music (at the end of the movie) from the Kevin Costner movie Wyatt Earp.
As for the 'singamondru purapattathe' song, that is not an original melody either. It is a common and very old folk tune used in 'villu paattu' and also 'naattu kooththu'. That's probably why they called it a 'vari maatram'. But, Deva as usual pretended it was his own.

The song 'Kanavu KAnum Vazhkai yavum' from Neengal
Kettavai is one of my favourite songs, but I was
shattered when I cameacross the same hindi song one month back.
It was a direct note by note lift from
that hindi song. Only the words are changed..
The hindi song starts like this 'Kasne vadhe.." and I was told it is from movie of same name starred by AB and it was much older than 'Neengal Kettavai'. I don't know why IR used the same
song, may be he liked the song and used the same.
Do you guys know this already?
What do you guys think?
