With all these crap threads on IR vs ARR, whereas they cannot be compared, why shouldn't we discuss about HJ and ARR ??
Same style of music, same instruments ...
So, do you guys think that HJ is better than ARR ?
In fact, with the latest super hit of ARR, we can think so ...
HCARRFans ... it's all in the game ....

Piratheepan,
choice of music is indeed a learning thing and it also depends on your exposure. If you never listened to a kind of music before in your life, you wouldn't know anything about it. Sure not many people are talking about IR's konji pesalam and I wasn't either. All I was saying was that a good song should be liked by almost everyone. It should have that quality. I am sure that you will agree with me that a lot of IR's songs have that quality. He used to give hits after hits before but now is being a bit selective bcos of many things. People in newtfmpage make the mistake of comparing current IR's form with others. He is over 60 years old but he is still producing great music and not afraid of experimenting (I am referring to his work in virumaandi) and we should be proud and happy about that, but unfortunately no body is seeing that. ARR is 36 years old now and do you think he will survive in the music industry for another 25 years??
Ilayaraja's music is like 'kalyana saappadu'. Nidhanamaaga rasithu ketka vendum. ARR's music is like 'fast food'. Kettuttu poikkittae irukkanum.

nah i see nuthing new in IR music. He is more of a mass guy...whereas ARR is a world mass guy.You step outside of India where u have second generation kids living in states etc who hate indian music...yet the only indian guy theyll listen to is ARR.
no i dont think a good song is one everyone adores.its cool if it does but it loses somethin when its a song for everyone....with the exception of melodious numbers.
yes i think ARR can last another 25 yrs.so ur analysis of ARR and IR doesnt hold true for me. I prefer to see it as more of two different type of food. You can like one more then the other or like both, whatever, but either way food is food and food is good.=P

Define mass guy and world mass guy. Are you calling ARR a world mass guy because some indian expats can relate to his music? It merely makes him an idol for expats. Full stop. Nothing more.
(Dont bring usual cow-crap like he did projects in London, US - that doesnt make him a world-mass guy - no native Britisher or a Londonner listens to ARR all his life!)

Piratheepan,
The criteria for appreciation varies for these second generation fellows and the real Indians who grew up with Indian music and its nuances. Naturally the choices will differ.

(Dont bring usual cow-crap like he did projects in London, US - that doesnt make him a world-mass guy - no native Britisher or American listens to ARR all his life, just his world appealed to indians in those countries, thats all!)

Plizzzzzz, rent out some common sense, read my post 2-3 times, then talk. I'm tired of re-phrasing and doing precis-writing my own posts 2/3 times to make u grasp the bare facts!
my stmt: "no native Britisher or American listens to ARR all his life"
ur interpretation: "No native britsher has heard of him"
EGAD!!
---"U can get ARR's Bombay Dreams,Vandhe Mathram and WOHE here in the regular store here in US"
no big deal, expat indians listen to him, whatever makes you think a dyed-in-the-wool foreigner is hooked to his music??? They have authentic artists in their genre, they dont have to accept his cultural mish-mash. As it is, the yanks cant distinguish Indians from Bangladeshis or Middle East peeps, leave alone Indian music!

u plz read my comments and think at least 50 times before u speak.
u were blabbering abt british ppl etc listening to ARR cuz i said ARR is world mass....yet u didnt even know wat i meant by world mass.Oh but comming back to ur point if native british ppl dont listen to his music then why did they buy Bombay Dreams?....sure ur going to say andrew webber...oh wait isnt he a native british guy? i didnt say they were hooked u fool.i said theyve heard of him. and kno one outside of india knows who IR is unless they have left india and are thamil.and the second generation kids dont kno who IR is but they kno who ARR.
Telling me u need to rephrase....haha maybe u need to read.

I would say HJ is 1000 times better than ARR.
ARR survived in the past just coz of HJ was a keyboard player with him. After HJ left ARR sucks in all his albums.
HJ is the GOD of ARR.

An arr fan too can claim like this...If u want others to believe ur rhetoric then even a typical ARR fan can type such a rhetoric for others to believe.

Ya "ARR is 1000 times better than IR" as he is NO more in TFM. Good for Tamil Film and India too. The junk music is Listened by so called world mass NRI's. Who really don't know what is a culture? and that to indian culture and tradition they are zero, everything they do like a film shooting style. so what ever they come across say as their own Indians and Indian Music. Which is how arr got popular.sad

ARR was very popular yesteryears until Harris Jeyaraj was a keyboard player for him. When Harris left ARR all hell went loose. No more hits only recycles. Kangalal Kaithi Sei was the only decent album that too was tuned when Harris was with him. Sad for ARR.
