Hello Unmai ,
I agree with some of ur points .But his choice of singers is better than ILLAa -the present ILLAS ..For example ILLAS always uses a singer for a prticular season and then there is no vareity ..Particularly if watch it in some small movies ,illas choice is horrible ...
When it comes to vareity again illas does not offer variety ....KAASI songs are good ,but they are not new ...Iam not saying they resembel some old tunes ,but we are tired of hearing such songs ..AN exception which i found in recent years was HEYRAm ,TIME ,SETHU ,KANNUKUL NILAVU,may be IVANN...
Off late AR Rehman Music is soft but they are not hit .WIth regard to BGM RAAJ is the king ..No doubt about it .

To all the guys who are trying to reason with Unmai. Unmai doesn't speak. He spits venom.
Beyond all his paragraphs and paragraphs of writing, we can only see a frustrated IR fan clutching at straws. Let us be magnamious. Let him rattle on and on.
Do you note something interesting: Uthaman --> JJ --> Unmai. When one disappears, the other appears and the one gone, never returns!

most of us didnt like many songs at first appeal coz...we did not watch the movie n the video clip.its one of IR's supernatural that his tunes fits good to the screenplay of the song....thats why we dont get the touch till we listen to the song while watching the movie.
for me ..i had the same experiance with germanyin senteyn malare in ulasai paravaigal....now i fall in love with that song

sounded relevant...thats why iam cutting and paste the following text which i read in the singapore's newspaper(accidently, yesterday this newspaper got selected as the newspaper of Asia pacific)! this is the review about Bombay Dreams by ARR.
"Less Bollywood than West End is Bombay
BRITISH curry, anyone? But, wait, not too spicy, please.
While bombay dreams, the laterst musical produced by AL Webber makes no claims for authenticity, what are we to make of true blue Indian composer AR Rahman's largely whitewashed songs for a West End audience?
What one gets is not so much fiery Bollywood passion but a very tame copycat with more purr than bite.
At its worst, songs sound like Disney's slick pop ditties, as in Love's Never Easy - so much so you half expect Celine Dion to sashay out and does her heart-thumping schtick amid enchanting indian dancers.
Aside from some showtunes like Chaiyya Chaiyya and How many stars wehre the energy shines through, you migh as settle for Baz Luhrmann's rojak soundtrack for Moulin Rouge, or the latest Sara Brightman CD."
i just copied and pasted the text without any modifications...now decide yourself. also people should remember that IR's both the western classical albums sold well in US and as well UK. Selling ice to eskimos...isn't it?

Don't just rely on one bias review to judge ARR's
Be fair!
Bombay Dreams. I have heard all the tracks, even though the tunes are not originals mainly, they are pretty well done i would say. So don't be biased and give credit where it is due. Stop comparing and wasting time...enjoy the good music that comes from various greats, be it IR, ARR, YSR or KR...they are all capable of delighting us with their great composings....

What symphony..? The biggest scandal to fool Tamil Audience.
As for HTNI and NBW, they are nothing more than a Jugalbandhi. Lalgudi Jayaraaman or L. Subramaniam had done even better things than that. Let me how many cassettes have sold for that. Pea nuts.

Unmai, what has having different scales in one song got to do with mixing?? Those examples i gave are in regard with composing, not mixing. Any discerned listener can perceive the scale change in the KM song irrespective of him listening to it in a boss system, or a mono radio. (And the logic that its a bad song that sounds good in a stereo but doesnt in mono radio is crappy logic.) As for the rest of ur points, if u know what my counter argument wud be, no need to type them in.

Our favourite music composer rulez in our hearts because of his old songs and new songs and BGM.
Now you tell me which part of your body does your fav. music arranger rules? I know it can't be the heart coz gypsies don't remain in a place to build that kinda feelings or rapport both ways. They are always moving one place to another where they think they can find 'excitement'.

Are Yaar: just go check www.muthamil.com, they have some excellent IR not featured elsewhere go one by one and find out for yourself. i became a hardcore IR fan listening to only pre 84 songs, after that i stopped because i could not do anything else, but now i freak out listening to post 84 thru 97 songs.
I feel sad for people who cannot have the chance to listen to an IR song and feel more sad for people who think ARR has composed better. daily i find some song of ARR i liked so much coming out inspired of some foreign song. this guy has no limits for that

ARR plgaiarizes too much. I have lost respect for his music. How good it may be it is still copied!!! Mixing and everything is copied and experimented. He has no originality. Glad i am in U.S. People who are in India will far less be aware of his copy cat techniques. Gradually people are uncovering them. Fooling audience? Very very inappropriate term!!! If you say ARR fooled Tamil audience with BABA i would agree. Symphony is an international classical music. I don't what you mean by "fooling" audience? One thing ARR fans must know is he is not composing songs keeping in mind with scale changes!!! He is a rythm based composer!! He never cares about how many scales.. whatever he does is just a coincidence. JUst listen to wide range of pop and latin tunes. You will find scale changes in song.
You think they do that keeping in mind scale changes. Ultimately how it sounds is the important point. That title is not a great tune!!
Just an inspiration of some eurpoean tune, He has cleverly changed the instrument!! He is the one fooling Tamil Audiences with his copy cat techniques.. All his new age songs are inspired by foreign new age tunes... I am sorry to say he is not even a decent composer let alone whizkid. Sorry if i am harsh on my once favorite MD. Thats the reality. I have learnt he has cheated Tamil public for the latst 10 years.
