HFA, or so called Hydrabad Fatima;
Please listen to SPB's melody in all languages NOT just in Hindi, then listen to UDIT then compare it, there is no point in telling you anything, because you are narrow minded person, who knows nothing abt SPB,music or even IFM.
do some research please.

spb has sung almost all kinds of songs many a times and with great ease and perfection. plese do not compare stale voices like hh,udit,sm,srinietc with the evergreen,divine ,versatile,voice of spb.
these people combined togather do not even come any where near to spb.

Mudhalvan;
I think the first IR & SPB combination in Tamil, was the song "mudhal mudhal aaga kadhal vanil" from the film " Niram maratha pookal", I am not sure about SPB & KVM combination.
I just hope this genius live a lot longer & keep us all in love with his voice, god bless this genius.
thanks

The first SPB & IR collaboration is "Oru naaL unnoadu oru naaL" from "uRavaadum nenjam". When they had the celebration for SPB's achievement, IR started his speech saying something to the effect of, "Oru naal engira paadal moolam thodarndhoam, oru naal uravaa idhu?..."

Ranga and Sats, 'iLamai oonjalAdugirathu' came much later. Udhaya is correct. 'oru nAL' and 'nenachchathellAm nadakkapOra nEraththilE vA nee'(from the same movie) were followed by 'nAn pEsa vanthEn' from pAlootti vaLarththa kiLi. The first song with KVM must have been 'Ayiram nilavE vA'. The first song for V Kumar was 'mAmA chanda mAmA', a telugu song.

Dear All,
I will prove why Rafi is the best singer in India as Music_fan wanted me to prove. Let us discuss different aspects of singing. Remember comments must have solid proofs to back them up.
Range : It is an open fact in the industry that Rafi rules when it comes to high pitches and there is no male singer who is better in singing at high picthes. I will provide examples.
-the song ‘O duniya ke rakhawale’ from “Baiju Bawra”, the last part in which he pulls to different crecendos with the word ‘rakhawale’. Swami a guest on this site who has had a personal association with both Rafi & SPB said that when you hear the last part of this song, you will realize why SPB said “Impossible” regarding Rafi.
-the song ‘Likhar tera naam zamin par’ from “Laila Majnu” when he pulls with the word ‘Laila’ at the end. Actually, throughout the whole song he is pulling in every stanza he sings.
-the song ‘Deewane ka naam to pucho’ form “An Evening In Paris” at the end of the song where he changes from a high pitch to a ‘low’ high pitch 3 times effortlessly.
-the song ‘Kya Mausam Hai’ which also features KK and Lata, when Rafi’s part comes in the middle of the song with ‘Yeh mastiyan, yeh sama’. Rajesh Roshan could have easily called any other singer for that part, but he very well knew that only Rafi could do justice to that part.
There is an interesting story that I heard about the movie ‘Haathi Meri Saathi’ had all KK songs in them. When it came to the song ‘Nafrat ki duniya’, KK was unable to sing at the high pitch required to do do. So LP called Rafi to sing that song and what a song it turned out to be. There is no other singer in India who could have sung that song consistently at a high pitch other than Rafi. The song is high pitch throughout which only Rafi could do justice to and not anyone else including SPB. Please listen to the above songs that I have mentioned and you will realize yourself why Rafi is uncomparable in this aspect.
Now shifting over to low pitches, both singers can sing effectively and well at low pitches, hence there is no point in comparing them as they are both good.
There is one aspect of range that no singer can claim to match Rafi in. This is changing notes from low to high. It is one thing to hold your breath and reach a crecendo like in ‘Shankara’ from ‘Shankabaharanam’ and it is another to start from low and suddenly switch gears and go to high. The former can be done with practice, but the latter requires a gift which Rafi had. He could effortlessly switch notes from low to high and vice-versa which SPB can not do easily. Swami also mentioned that 3 out of 4 singers will be able to sing the songs of ‘Shankarabharanam’ and 1 out of 10 will be able to sing it with the same effect. There is no telling what Rafi could have done if he had sung the songs of ‘Shankarabharanam’.
Modulation : There is no better singer in India when it comes to modulation other than Rafi. Rafi could sing for Dilip Kumar and Rajendra Kumar as perfectly as he could sing for Shammi Kapoor or Dharmendra. Many personalities and people have said that Rafi sounded the same as the actor of whom he playbacked for which was his extraordinary quality. When SPB sings for Rajnikanth, Kamal Haasan or Salman Khan, he manages to match his voice with theirs, but when he sings for say an Anil Kapoor or a Prashanth his voice will not suit their voices. Rafi’s voice could match any actor whereas SPB is limited to a few actors. This is a fact !.
Expression : Rafi had the ability to express each word and each emotion in that word. Mind you, singing in Hindi/Urdu is harder than singing in South Indian languages. Hindi/Urdu has many “cha”, “fa”, “ha”, “tha”, “sa” thus making it harder to express words than South Indian languages. If you just go through these words without emotion you will never be expressive. Many South Indian singers who have had a good exposure have said it is beneficial to learn Hindustani music as it improves breath control and expression. Therefore it is safe to say that once you have sang a lot and mastered singing in Hindi/Urdu only then can you be very expressive in it. Also, once you are expressive in Hindi/Urdu it is easy to be expressive in South Indian languages as they are not that hard to express yourself in than Hindi/Urdu. When SPB sang some of Rafi’s originals, it lacked the expression and the punch though it had the bass. SPB may make you fall in love with his South Indian songs but when he sang Rafi’s originals it wasn’t like the original. Mind you, SPB’s hindi songs are good and I do enjoy them more than his south indian songs. Critics have said that there is an accent problem, but I beg to differ as I find no problem of his accent as Hindi was SPB’s second language all throughout school as he once mentioned. I feel that when he sings south indian songs his voice doesn’t have freedom as compared to when he sings hindi/urdu songs. It maybe due to the vocabulary of the songs or other factors. I just heard a song from the movie “Netro Indru Nalai” which was a duet with him and a female singer that I don’t know of. His voice didn’t sound as good as does at other times. Does anyone know who the actor of that movie was ??. And his voice didn’t have that much freedom due to the words. This is simply my opinion and does not intend to offend anyone.
Voice : Both Rafi & SPB have excellent voices. They both are meledious and can sing different types of songs. SPB’s voice has a heavy bass which he uses to a good extent in the different type of songs he sings. He has shown he can sing in different situations and use his voice effectively. His voice can also be deep in some situations where required. Rafi’s voice on the other hand was neither heavy bass or soft and nasal. His voice was just perfect and he could change it in any type of situation. He could sing at high pitches freely and it sounded magnificent and powerful. At the same time he could sing soft songs with as much ease as he could high pitch songs. This is what made him great.
SPB said recently in a SUN TV interview that the only voice he ever wished to possess was that of the late Rafi. And he mentioned that he is irreplaceable. Rafi truly had a divine voice.
Singing : SPB has proved that he can sing any type of song ranging from rock, pop, jazz to classical, ghazals etc. He can adapt to any type of song depending on the situation as well sing with emotions depending on the situation. Rafi could also sing any type of song . His repetoire also ranged from rock, pop, jazz, to classical, ghazals, bhajans etc. One type of song that I haven’t heard SPB sing in is the qawalli. Qawalli’s are very famous throughout Asia and especially India and I haven’t heard SPB sing one. Rafi was a master at singing qawalli’s and his qawalli’s are considered some of the best in Indian Cinema History. It is unimaginable to think that Rafi couldn’t sing any type of song because he could sing anything. And for all you bashers saying that Rafi’s “shruti” and “laya” are off when he sings “Madhuban Mein radhika” is just BS. Show me where he goes off line. Also, do you think that such a perfectionist like Naushad who is one of the best classical musicianist India has known would allow Rafi to go off line which ofcourse he did not do as Rafi was himself a perfectionist. THINK ABOUT THAT !!!.
Examples of qawalli’s :
-“pardah hai pardah” from ‘Amar Akbar Anthony’. (His high pitch in that song is just unbelievable.)
-“hum kisi se kum nahin” from ‘Hum Kisi Se Kum Nahin’(brilliant song in which he shows his wonderful range.)
“Na to caravan ki talash” (and Manna Dey does not outshine him in this one though he starts first. Rafi changes the complexion of the song when he enters.) There are many more which I will not list.
It is not a joke that SPB mentions Rafi many a times. Why do you think is the reason ?. Don’t give excuses such as he is mentioning him because he was a great singer and that does not have anything to do with him being better than Rafi. He mentions him many times because he knows Rafi was and will always be the ultimate paragon of singing and that he is uncomparable. SPB has a portrait of Rafi in his recording studio in Madras hanging beside the portrait of his parents. The list is endless of how many singers male and female admire and worship Rafi in India from both the North and South and around the world. It is not because they are paid to say his name, it is because they know he is an Ustaz and the king of legends. He deserves the most respect and praises cannot describe his greatness and phenomenon of talent. His title is RAFI SAHAB which he is affectionately and lovingly called all around the industry. He passed away too early and at a time when the industry needed him the most. After he left this world everything plumeted down the drain and to this day we are missing a voice as great as his. It is surprising that a population with over 2 BILLION people cannot find a voice to match him. If you cannot accept that Rafi is the greatest then that is your opinion but if the facts and proofs are there for you in front of your eyes then that shows arrogance and betrayal of the truth. And for all of you who claim to have heard songs of Rafi, please go and hear many more and then you will realize why Rafi is truly the greatest and why SPB has him as his guru. I know everyone has their own favourite singer, but to prove one is better than the other requires facts and no arrogance.
And to all those out there who say Southies are more talented than Northies, please don’t give statement such as these. We all know both are all talented. Is it a joke that :
-IR admires Salil Chaudary and has a portrait of him in his house. He is also influenced by the great Panchamda. Many MD’s from the south admire and are influenced by many MD’s from Bombay.
-Practically all singers in the South are influenced by and admire the great Lata Mangeshkar as well as the ever versatile Asha Bhosle. This goes along with Rafi as I mentioned before and others such as Mukesh, KK, Manna Dey etc.
-There are many great gharanas and classical musicianists in the North which are the best in India in their respective fields.
Examples : Ravi Shankar (sitar), Zakir Hussein (tabla), Hariprasad Chaurasia (flute) etc.
-many actors and actresses of Bollywood are admired by actors/actresses of the South as well as influenced by them.
As you can see, such statements are BASELESS and prove no point. These statements show arrogance and lack of knowledge as well as discrimination. India should be one and not differentiate between North and South.
