heard a song `rAsavE enna theriyalayA' or something like that from the film `rAjarAjEswari' and it's an imitation of an already very ordinary song `thoongAthE thambi thoongAthE, nee thoongippittu pinnAdi EngAthE'...

Just thought I'd share with you the message from film critic Salma Khatib who writes for Screen among other publications. She was answering to my mail on Nadeem Sharavan copying 2 songs from Middle Eastern sources in Dhadkan and going on to say that they expected an award for Dhadkan!
"Hi Karthik,
Thanks for ur response. Nice to know that u have taken pains to discover the roots of the songs.
Anyway Nadeem never claimed that he was composing all of original music. He did say that he was influenced by music around the world. And all music directors are influenced by songs from everywhere. But I must congratulate u for ur research. Thanks again and do keep writing
to me with ur discoveries. Bye. Salma"
I've never seem a lamer excuse. Never expected this from a noted critic! I assume this is the way people deal with plagiarism in this country. Imagine how different things would be if our copyright laws were more stringent? Hopefully then such people would be more forthright in pointing it out than doing this hopeless bit of ass-licking.

Karthik,
You can expect hard hitting reviewers/critics in film magazines, or any magazines for that matter. They are inside glass castle. They can go beyond a level. The same screen magazine has to go to nadeem or anu malik for a interview, or they have to depend on thier friends for new source.
You have done so much research, why dont you write a article and forward to magazines like india-today or outlook? They might consider publishing it.

I admire your determination and commitment Karthik...I bet your e-mail has given Salma Khatib the jitters ! She has her reviews to defend....and looks like she is scared to accept the truth :)

just want to let u know ... salma is also trying to use u . she sees u as a free collector... for her database of copied songs.... she will use it in her articles when she decides to trash the MD.
and also maybe she doesnt want to publicly agree with u.. and she is euphemistically saying... that she agrees with u .. that nadeem is a brainless MD

You have done extensive research and work on this dont let it go waste.
Instead start your own webpage or good forum like this and you can write your own articles.
Dont waste your time with these reporters, most of them doesnt know anything ,really I mean it they dont do enough research nor will they accept the fact.
Continue your good work

And also we should send some protest mails to the rediff for their often lousy reports about South MDs and protraying north MDs as out of the world

I think you got it all wrong. I don't visit this forum frequently now-a-days and so when I see a posting, I had to skip 2 or 3 pages backward to post a reply for that. Your posting was like that. Since, it was a couple of pages away and I believe that you posted contents even after that perticular posting, I wanted to point out your exact message to post a reply. So I C & P ed the entire IP and date. I just thanked you for the information. If you don't want , don't accept it. I loose nothing.

CF, in that case you should have C and Ped the entire message and not just the header alone..do you realize now that it looked like as if I wrote that post whereas in reality YOU had written it? you didnt mean it intentionally of course but it was a big slip..the next time you want to quote my message C and P the ENTIRE message and not the header alone..or just mention my name..by including details like the time of my post etc. you are not achieveing anything and you would end up confusing others..Anyways excuse me for interpreting it in the way it was not supposed to..

Guys..I think we are diluting the discussions under this topic. So far all I got was the info that second interlude of kAdOram lOlAkku has been copied. I would like to see Karthik at work here. But he seems to be devoting his time to hindi films. (Braindrain to HFMPage ? :) )

Guys, I believe MSV has been strongly inspired by a song called "Akele hain chale aao" by Lata (another version by Rafi) from the movie Raaz for his song "naalai intha velai paarthu" by PS from Uyarndha manithan. the former came out in 67, the latter in 68 and it fetched PS a national award..
I havethe song in mp3 and would try to get it to the list somehow but in the meantime if any of you can find the realaudo link(i tried) on the net can u pl get it??
Oh, but only the Lata version NOT the rafi version..with the lata version u would note the similiarity ...not a copy but a huge inspiration.. teh way lata starts and the pallavi are definitely similiar..

I have heard about this earlier - the original of enjodi intro was supposed to be in that movie, but have never heard it so far.
But there's one more version to it. There was a message somewhere in the archive that the vikram song was inspired by a track by Russian composer Katchaturian. I sampled a few katchaturian tracks via napster and found the genre of music very similar to vikram's song. But couldnt zero in on the same song so far. Katchaturian himself was supposed to be ripping off local Bavarian folk songs but was immensely popular in his own right.

bb, that song is the right one..but the first link is not working..also its the lata version and not the rafi version that bears the similiarity...I'll try searching too...
