BTW just as a side note the Scale Keeravani in Carnatic is Equivalent to the Scale Harmonic Minor in the western Music which differs from Natural Minor by Sharpening the Seventh Degree.....(B, Kakali Nishadham)....

Divakar, I am glad this keeravani piece is shaping up into some accountable work like a song...Good Luck you will have some more fun here around.

Divakar, it is a very nice and catchy melody. Somehow, I felt the reverb or room echoes of the guitar interfering with the bass of the rhythm loop. I think final equalisation like in a mastering process would have helped to improve the clarity in the mix. Maybe, it is just the mp3 compression. Anyways, In many film songs of male singers, I have to tone down the bass in my equaliser to make the song clear.
BTW, how are you recording your Stratocaster ? I liked your second composition in the mp3 page more than this. Little loud for an old man like me :)
Aditya, thanks for the background on the scales. Yeah, I liked it.Your piece would go well with visuals as BGM (sorry, I can't seem to get over the initial first impression :) ..its a good thing that it creates an impression right ?)

k, good that it created an impression for you...
your initial impression matches with my subject owing to the geography, and the usage of instruments in the score. But for an indian musician this scale is not alien:-)) This score is actually made for some visual BGM purpose...And perhaps without that it could test the patience of some listeners.
BTW, your age seems to have garnered quiet some good experience of listening to music. Keep yourself around...I am sure your kind of people are needed here...

Aditya

Divakar, I just listened to your Keeravani - beautiful performance with indian style interludes...Intro strum in your "hello keeravani" is superb! You built the momentum with the intro something like techno trance kind...while your bass note plays F#, guitar strums plays somewhat traversing F# - B - C#...
The lead melody is good. But I wish the very first opening note of the melody being something else other than F# as the bass note has been on this note for longer...ofcourse this is only my preference...I think this can be developed as a song due to the root note of the scale - good singers will usually be in that range.
Give a try you will have good results
out of it. Good Luck...I enjoyed this song and your spontaneity.
BTW, it will be interesting to take a look at "Ek Pal Jeena" song in Kaho Na Pyar Hi...Ignore the song, I am not interested about it but after 35s of it's start...see the strums ( which repeats all through the song )...I am interested in that...is this a style or standard?

Aditya

Aditya and K,
Thanks for your comments...Appreciate it!
Yes the song has turned out well and Aditya I did write in F# (F#,G#,A,B,C#,D,F,F#'..F# Harmonic Minor), I didnt care to transpose it to C as I got the tune in F# pitch originally....
K thanks for pointing out the Overlapping of Guitar with the bass of the Rythm Loop....I might have to mix the separate tracks once again to see how it comes out....guess a guitar compressor/limitor would solve the problem....
Thanks Anyway..

Aditya and K,
Thanks for your comments...Appreciate it!
The song turned out really well and Aditya I wrote the song in F# Harmonic Minor (F#, G#, A, B, C#, D, F, F#') didnt care to traspose it to the key of C...
K thanks for pointing out the overlapping of guitar sounds with the bass, I might have to do a mix of the tracks again to see how to solve that problem...probably a guitar compressor/limitor would be the solution....
Thanks

Divakar, you need not transpose to C...
F# note is anyway seeming to the listener as a root note of the scale...And it's comfortable sruthi for good singers around;-) Keep it going...BTW, it will be interesting to take a look at the strums in "Ek Pal Ka Jeena" - perhaps you will find some interesting observation there...Anyway I prefer to go offline with you sometime later.

Aditya

Any instrument as Srikanth says, is a just a tool. To use it innovatively is the composer's creative ability. I have personally heard some miraculous play of Srikanth in raga hamsadhwani and some of the works of Divakar here on guitar which have impressed me very much. Blaming KB is a li'l unfair.

Although we heard earlier in 2001, considering we have quiet a few new people here , It would be nice if Srikanth provides the audio clip of his Live With Thirumale Srinivas, visiting Artist to SV Temple, Pittsburgh.

Aditya and ms thanks :), I dont know where it is in my hard drive. however that is done long time ago, let us move forward. :)
I made this point long time ago no one replied, let me try again. The music scores here are stored in many places and we are not organized.
If a director or anyone steps in they has not means to hear all of them one place.
I like to do it properly, I like to create a webpage for each musician here from where they can upload their music and give a note on it.
I will publish it for people to download load.
Something like what mp3.com does. Mp3.com charges about $100 a year, I think we can do this for less than $20 a year from each musician. Let me know if anyone is interested. It is about time that we get organized in order to encourage private independent musicians.

folks,
I plugged in a new pickup for my Strat and played it on the bridge, I guess it gives a much more fuller and sharper tone...
check out the strats in Action at http://www.geocities.com/dbhowman
Thanks

Srikanth, BTW, I have that audio clip with me:-))
Anyway as you said, let's move forward.
Your idea is good...the following questions pop up in many minds here...I guess we could compile this kind of questions and formulate a kind of amateur composers consortium. BTW the following are not really any of my concerns - If I decide to join I will abide to any rules of that webpage...just for discussion sake I put some questions to move further...
Do we need a moderator/administrator for that website? Contents of the website...What kind of independence is given for each musician who publishes their music...everytime a music is uploaded, should the musician bother the administrator? Is there a necessity to screen the content before publishing? Any Copyrights?
Can somebody place something on that website and restrict the access...
Now keep it going! I appreciate your initiation on this proposal.
Regards,
Aditya

Divakar, this audio wobbles...Pickup or effects processor seems to be culprit.

1. Simply provide an upload point to everyone musician who signs up.
2. Musician can enter their background information, contact information, and something about him etc etc, including pictures.
3. They can upload music freely to this site which shall be reviewed for sound quality meaning, mp3 has to 128kbs atleast to sound good.
we can provide multiple formats. mp3 , windows or real media.
4.We can get some ground rules like a song has to be atleast 1 min in length. anything lesser will not make the needed impact.
This page will be totally an independent page to the musician. They wil have full control to publishing and unpublishing a song.
Producers can contact them directly, slowly as days grows we can provide music marketing features. We can also provide some valid statistics and feedback.
in future who knows if it works properly we can also charge a minimum charge for a song download (like in buymusic.com)
this thread has served us a lot and i want to take it to more heights. we can still have discussions here.
I feel we can do this quite easily most of us being computer pros we can organize this quite easily with resources.

Sriks..you sound like IR on the subject of symphony :) :) :)
(Aditya..that piece of music being actually done for visuals (like I guessed) explains it all!!!)
