"he would not be mad enough to try fill a song with that sound only since he knows it will get dumped. "
ms, very good observation you are perfectly right. He has never filled his score with mere sounds, just to fill time.
(mordern music does this often, like i can take an example arr filling a drum solo in muqabla 2nd bgm, this is just a filler loop)
Imho, How ever simple IR's tune were, his arrangements had some meaning. We have lot to learn from it.

Hari: you have to use the html tags
type the text you want in bold here
type the text you want in italics here
type what you want to appear in red for example (or green or blue...)
- From: rajaG (@ 208.24.179.207)
on: Wed Jun 27 14:01:27 EDT 2001
oops! html tags are
<*> text....*>
where
* = b (for bold)
* = i (for italics)
* is "font color =red
Please remember to close the tags with a corresponding *> as the case maybe.
If this is not clear, I'll let some of the vasthaadhu's like bb, comment, and MS to take over:-)

Adding to RaajaG's note oru example..
The sentence is to demo < b > BOLD < / b >
and < I > ITALIC < / I > and
< font color=green > GREEN < /font > usage..
removing the spaces between < and >; we get
The sentence is to demo BOLD
and ITALIC and
GREEN usage..

Hari:
First of all, please do NOT take things personally. By escapism I meant those who do not have a backgound but still argue for the sake of it. And my statement was not directed to any individual in particular but to a class which would show that character. Count yourself out if you are not. I am not judgemental as I have said earlier.
U think quality cannot be defined globally. I do agree that there can be no complete definition. But my iteration is that there can be minimum "standards" set which can help differentiate. TO me Deva's music is indeed of poor qulaity compared to IR. A 1000 reasons can be given but you would still consider it subjective, in which case, I will have to conclude that our view points are different.

MS :-) I never take things personally.. sorry for the confusion. i just didnt understand what escapism u were talking abt.. thats ok. Peace.
As I have said before, I appreciate IR and ARR (and a whole lot of others...) because they are sincere in their effort... at least from what Ive heard in this DF, and from their life biographies, their interviews etc.
Now, I wouldnt know if Deva's music as such is poor... I dont like a lot of his songs either,.. but I wud stop with that... wudnt use the word "quality".
(Y)our opinion cud possibly clouded by the personality of Deva... the fact that u know he is an insincere fellow, a rascal who cares a damn for sincere effort and blatantly flicks tunes from other western/indian compositions.
I think I was much "better" when I was 10 years old.. when I used to like a song when I heard it. I had no idea abt composer or singer or his/her ego or whatever.... I am just trying to get some perspective. Let us separate music from the men (and women :-). Dont say, u dont like Deva's music.... say u dont like this particular song ... incidentally Deva happens to have composed it !

there are many directors and producers who like Devas work, including the superstar.
- Music being good is very very subjective",
- Quality of music cannot be defined clearly by anyone.
Majority tend to follow a "mass" opinion. if 10 people say something is good, 11th one will follow that opinion.
As far tfm fan go they also decide the quality of music based on the movie, dance sequence, artists etc.
Quality for me in music has been totally different. I look for different elements in a score often technical. I have not been able to define a perfect rule to evaluate song is good or bad till date.

Guys,
SPB can grasp the content of the song over a phone conversation and can sing efficiently. His talent is great.
IR used to do too many movies and require somebody with good voice, quick grasp and extraordinary talent like SPB to deliver music in time. While IR was good in making quick music and SPB helped in delivering it.

Why IR has stopped using SPB these days? Ironically YSR is using SPB more than IR.. considering the last few movies of both
- From: sim (@ 213.185.126.18) on: Fri Feb 20 01:27:18 EST 2004
The statement is fallacious,
A more realistic statement might have been "Why IR used SP less than others."
A very regular share of IR songs went to M Vasu Devan and KJ Yasudas. Compared to other composers of the 80s like MSV, T rajendar, and Gangai Amran, IR had a good share of non SP songs.

I think IR used SPB for versatility and the ability to fit to the situation. Some examples...
Look at the situations the songs were composed for..
Ennadi Meenatchi Sonnathu Ennachu...(Ilamai Oonchaladukirathu)
Pon Malai Pozhuthu...(Nizhalghal)
Sithahatthi Pookkalae.... (Rajakumaran)
Mannil Intha Kadhalandri..(forgot the film name)
Vanithamani Vanamohini.. (Vikram)
Sorgham Madhuvilae..(Sattam Yen Kayil)
Siriya Paravai Sirahai..(Antha Oru Nimidam)
Antharangham Yavumae...(forgot the movie name)
Madai Thirandhu...(Nizhalghal)
A lot more...!

Why IR was using SPB more?
.
i think the only reason was that KJY was charging more per song and was not available for singing those ugly fast numbers, which SPB could sing rather well.
.
but whenever a good melodious number came up, especially with classical touch, he sent for KJY.
.
