  Well now a days no songs have any thing good except than the same computer/electronic programmed songs as ARR do. Nor the songs tempo changes or moods in songs. Just flat songs most of them which I don't like to hear repeatedly. (This is my personal opinion, and I am also listening to songs for a long time OK)

  Sorry folks my intention was not to offend anyone.
  
  ARR and Shankar, i feel follow a similar approach.Get the real pros and lets make a good presentation.
  
  I mentioned Parathasarthy/Gayathri because among IRs innnumerable veenai pieces the ones in Badrakali stand out.
  
  MSV has used Violin in all his songs but the Vaan Nila one (Pattina pravesam) stands out.(I think a vidwan by name Mani played the special Violin)
  
  So there was nothing wrong in taking the speciality musicians.But how many times they ever got the credit before ARR s entry.Honouring such musicians has given tremendous boost to Car.Music.
  
  ARR has introduced bad singers..well that is a news!He has introduced good singers with bad pronounciation.People quote Sukwindar.But listen to Kariye na from Taal.Apart from SS very few could have done justice to that song which has been composed in brilliant Bhojpuri style.
  (We all talk about Madurai Mani Aiyyar s "Madhava Rana mugane instead of Madha varana mugane.That does not make the genius Mani Aiyyar a bad singer)
  
  Shankar Mahadevan,Hariharan,Sadhana,anuradha Sriram the liost is pretty long considering the period of 10 years.
  
  Redefining sound - Sonics ??( Kiru )
  Quality international sound makes pleasant listening.Its his contribution.
  
  Period music- I think very few Indian MDs have ever acheived his level when it comes to this.Lagan,TLOBS,Zubeida,1947 all brilliant scores.
  
  There is no RDB,SDB ..Another inane argument.Where was RDB from 1985?After Sagar he lost out to mediocre LP.So ARR would have made a dent anyway.

  3)He gave oppurtunities to many unsung heros(singers)
  4)He increased cassette sales business
  5)He unvield tamil film music to the world

  Coming back to ARR s contribution
  
  1. paved way for Meaningless englese lyrics to replace meaningless rasa,rosa,ponmane,nee kooru lyrics.
  2. Vandemataram - This was almost forgotten and carried little meaning to the new gen.ARR Made it a mantra.
  3. Remember Ajay Devgan s interview in Hindu (pointed out by Magix already).Everyone believes that when he is involved the project cannot be a half-hearted attempt. for the records,he has not even completed 75 films.
  
  4.I heard that he manages to listen to & test atleast 20 new voices every week.

  Arr had indeed a few pluses. But the negative points, (i don't want to mention.. just too many)
  overwhelm the positive ones.
  
  Whether ARR jas contributed to casesette sales.. you ask the distributor of KM you will come to know.

  Here are more points for the benefit of ARR bashers.
  
  1. Arr has 10,000+1 bad points but we cannot say it as it is too many or three many to list. (mmm how many times we heard this)
  
  2.Uses horrible singers who cannot sing tamil, hindi, gurathi, bhojpuri etc (but will not name the singers)
  
  3.Uses drum loops and copies (but will not tell the loop libraries or at times no one knows what is a loop is made up of)
  
  4. All artists working with ARR share composing, this includes sridhar and sivakumar also. (but will not pin point the songs or tracks they contributed or show "evidence" where artists themselves had mentioend about their composing abilities with ARR)
  
  5. ARR Bombay dream is a hype, he reused all the old songs. (as if ALW told that he wanted new songs and arr did not provide him.)
  
  6. tapes sales were low go ask some dealer X ( the best point is same dealer is not asked for other tapes sales of other MDs where header cleaning tape is sold more. )
  
  finally the usual statement,
  We can give more points but my intention is not to hurt sentiments of ARR fans or insult, illtreat, trash, bash, squash ARR.

  The title/introduction of this thread seems inoffensive. It is upto the posters in this thread to make it positive/appreciative of ARR. Where have all the ARR fans gone ? Why cant they share some things they enjoy in his music? These can be simple things and not necessarily technical things. One example, I can give is, then mERku paruvakkARRu song has crash cymbal sounds which imitate the rain sound. I thought this was very pretty neat, instead of using the actual rain sound.

  On a scale of 1 to 10, ARR contribution could be say 3(that includes lot of Borrowed tunes from Malayalam Ganjira based tunes, Middle East Arabic based tunes, Mexican style tunes, etc.,) but originality other than skillful mixing is zero. This value of 3, is because of the influence he created for youngsters to jump and dance for a 3 or 4 month lasting songs. Now, with so many MDs, bharathwaj, Harris Jeyaraj, of course cat copy man Deva, it is more pulling him to the value of 3 on 1 to 10 scale. Frankly, how much long his tunes will last and people like to listen even after 10 years, is very questionable. My evaluation is based on long term influence of those tunes in our tamil community. Who likes to spend time in a retrospective way for good feeling of nostalgia, songs except Roja and may be 3 or 4 other movies, to listen those songs?
  
  If you find my argument is not agreeable, please make statistical average from various listeners and give me the evidence it is not so, I could change my basis of valuing.

  Intersting observation Kiru.
  
  Since the advent of ARR ( and ofcourse Shankar) the importance of visuals and ambience has increased leaps and bounds.
  
  The song "Telephone mani pol" is an example.During the I interlude containing the hard beats the (aerial shots)visuals shown are the iron bridges of Sydney.Also the wave sound that follows.
  
  The director-MD duo must have given so much thought about a regular duet song.
  
  The Sax solos of Duet with Wave sounds is another example.
  
  Follwed by Jeans- the song beats of Anbe Anbe are a tribute to VR s foxtrot style songs (Kalangalil aval vasantham,Azhagukum malarukkum,pallavi of Adhisaya ragam).Remeber the names of two heros of the movie - Viswanathan & Ramamurthy.
  
  As a director i would go with a man who matches my visual & ideas.So ARR would be the obvious choice if i decide to present a stunning visual or even a simple idea like the names of VR.
