Kalyan,
Good point, but I think, Father Jegath, knows what he is talking about. I am 75% certain (!!!)even the vocal portions will be notated. It is one of my pet theories, that IR takes a indian style of singing, splits into vocal+orchestral parts. There are quite a number of songs where the singers are singing flat without any gamakams, backed by the strings, which keep going higher and do some sliding. If listened together, they probably convey the effect of the raagam in which the main melody is set.
Again, this is just my theory, I have not put enough time and effort to, substantiate this further. (see examples in niram pirithu:Time, ennasolli:en mana vaanil etc).
IF the whole thing is notated and our pundits agree that it surely is a composition based on a raagam, then IR would have DONE it !!!!!

Dear K,
Thanks for explaining it this way. The proposition of WCM singers singing in Indian style by the sheer accuracy of the notations is *really* exciting. I cannot wait for TiS to get released.

Friends - we have all heard enough of, and discussed enough of our works not being recognised abroad by people from other groups
here are my thoughts on the same -
the reasons are manifold and deserve/merit serious multifaceted introspection -
for one, noone is going to give us a damn for all our heritage and culture, if we - of the present generation do not prove our worth/genuine value in competitive fields, where devotion, dedication, discipline, commitment, sincerity, honesty, remorseless and relentless, single-minded, focussed hard work are the fundamental qualities required for some modicum of success -
only if we prove our worth imbibing all these qualities, will the world turn towards us and say, "Ha - these guys are interesting"
for instance, why the hell can't we address the question as to how and why, a society that boasts of such a rich heritage, is not able to produce even a single world-class athlete who can win at least one gold in the Olympics ? why we can't produce a single car with indigenous technology that is world-class ?
I know artistic talent cannot be equated with what I have mentioned above, but let us keep in mind that, in a post-industrial revolution scenario, we have to prove our worth as self-reliant, self-sufficient lot, before even thinking of showing off to the rest -
only then, will the rest of the world stand up and look up to us - in my experience, I am yet to come across a single individual from this generation, who is willing to single-mindedly devote himself/herself to achieve/accomplish objectives in his/her chosen field - that has to change - only then, can we expect our civilisational history to get its due credence
until then, we should be content with a bunch of foreign jokers running around the world in saffron clads, singing 'Hare Rama Hare Krishna' and people like Richard Gere and others visiting India for the so-called utopian 'spiritual' peace
we need a neo-Vivekananda in every field, rather than just one Maestro in the music field - no that is not enough
I hope I have managed to get the message across

India is an old civilization, time-tested beliefs n tolerance for diversity, well-worn traditions, least aggressive culture on this planet currently. Look at all the wars since 1947, we just take back what was stolen from us, just what is the minimum need.
Most of our beliefs have not been known to give significant importance to physical superiority, either in form or approach. Food was just a means to an end, not an end in itself. Somewhere in the scriptures, it says all the senses must be disciplined to lead a balanced life and from there attain salvation, that is the foundation of India' attitude to the physical and the spiritual outlook.
You can't have both, that was made determined several centuries ago thru meditation by Sages. Achievements are very motivational issues, high motivation, high energies, more needs, more wants and so on. IR has said it once, in regards to his achievements - true music has no purpose (meaning no motivation)
If at all, we feel we have to catch up with the world, it is only in wanting to prove it in the Olympics!!!! I don't think that is going to happen in the near future, it may be accomplished left to another generation from today, who will find a way to lock in the sensual (physical) achievements with the spiritual.
The world has to catch up with us, that is what we refuse to believe, but that is what it is...... Interet in spiritual based systems such as Yoga, Ayurveda, Kalaripayattu, Bharatanatyam, Carnatic music are just on the rise, it is an indication of other nations seeking truth than motivation.
Why do we seek recognition so much, when the ultimate quest of man is to seek salvation from all things recognized? Isn't that what IR also said that another birth would not be necessary to create Symphonies or musical births to help the world recognize the words of Thiruvasagam. Salvation is within reach thru understanding the words of Thirvusagam without music, but some of us want recognition, so let it be thru Symphony!!!!! I think this is what IR must be meaning to say to all of us.

First of all I dont see the reason why should some one sitting in Europe or US regonize us. No need for that. India can be self suffized. No need of all this technoligical craze and so called World recogonition. In the nmame of globalization , lot of destruction is going on to our culture. Why the hell we should beg for recocogintion from some stupid US eorpian. Neendt. there are so many things in this Land. The Land of Siddhas and Sages which the current genereation is just simpley not willing to look at it. They are hanging on to T.V and Boy/Girl friends and destroying their life.
All I can say is there is other dimension of life which has been established for 1000s of year in this country . Still reverberant the core is still intact But ppl are just running madly for pleaure and stupdities and ingoring such a wonderful science of knowing oneself.

Gyan and Srini - while I do agree with what both of you have said, it is also high time that we realised that the very basic assets that made us a culturally 'rich' civilization, viz., honesty, integrity, devotion, dedication, etc and other virtues have been thrown to the winds - why are we today one of the most CORRUPT nations ? why dont we address our own problems, basic, fundamental ?
it sounds naive to induge in blind self-congratulatory bouts, simply talking of a glorified past, while we do nothing in the present
the point I am driving at is, we need someone like Maestro.Ilaiyaraaja in every field - all this talk about pseudo-spiritual stuff is mealy mouthed intellectual stuff, unless we become as disciplined and dedicated as Maestro has been and is
get my point ?

Music_Lover,
As a person involved in the development of the first indigenously developed digital switching eqpt. in India in 1989(the platform which outsold all the imported products both in volume and custom features / networks etc for more than a decade), I can say, at least in the field of technology, we are not far behind -despite gifting away most of our best brains to the west. Some of the Indian engineers -whom I worked with in my telecom endeavours in India- were far superior to those westerners of Alcatel / Harris / Lucent whom I worked with!
Who told there's no world-class automobile by Indians? Do you live outside India for many many years?
Indica is 100% Indian and it is being also sold now in the competitive European market (besides being a best-seller in India, outselling all the multinational cars in its segment). I drove the diesel version of this for a couple of years before moving to my current assignment in N.A. It's definitely better than the Suzuki cars sold in India.
Haren Gandhi, who is an icon at Ford R&D, and who won the U.S.president's award for his achievements (the only one to get this from auto industry in all these years -and now in the elite company of Bill Gates / Steve Jobs in this aspect) is, ofcourse, Indian.
So, we have some positives (along with IR). Focus on them and build on them....

I am happy to see these postings...... at last! If you go back and listen once again to IIr's initial audio message released in last November, this is what he wanted from every young Indian to feel and ACT! I was hoping that someday, someone will realize this and will turn everyone's attention towards this- know your past, know your own greatness, know thast you have everything here, know that YOU can and arise, awake and ACT- and I sincerely thank "music_lover, gyan, srini and app_engine" for having started this dialog, originally conceived by the Maestro when he wanted to TiS! If more people feel this way, start this way and act this way, the purpose of TiS is served! PLEASE KEEP GOING!!
YIA!!
