kamal and revathi came together in oru kaidiyin diary, which also saw IR and VM collaborating. the song "pon maane kobam" is an all-time classic. sung by vijay and spshailaja (i think).

When talking about PS, I can't forget the following duet with TMS in the film "Padagotti" starring MGR and Saroja Devi. When you hear the song, you can see that PS matches TMS at the high pitch and at times, excels him. This is one of my favourite songs. Did MSV and TKR composed the music together or was it only MSV? The song goes like this :-

thottal poo malarum... thodaamal naan malarndhaen...
suttal pon sivakkum... sudaamal kan sivandhaen...
kangal padaamal kaigal thodaamal kaadhal varuvadhillai...

Another song is from the film "Paavamannippu".

can anyone of you complete the pallavi? I don't remember the lyrics exactly. You can see how PS brings the expression exactly in her voice. This is also one of the songs I love a lot.

BTB, have you heard the following song in "Rathakkanneer" (sung by chidambaram Jeyaraman)

kutram purindhavan... vaazhkayil nimmadhi kolvadhenbadhedu

Cram, "pon maanae kobam yeno" was sung by KJY and SP.Shailaja and not Vijay. (Are you referring to actor Vijay (who must have been a kid then) or someone else?)

Here is an add-on to Pon maane! The female voice was Uma Ramanan.

Shan,

'Avar kaiyaithan...kondu mellathan...vandhu kannaithan.... eppai solvenadi....' completes the pallavi.

I like the feeling in PS voice in 'pattukku patteduthu' better than 'thottaal poo malarum' in Padagotti. Otherwise, I love both.

Initially to me it sounded like Valaj, atleast the character. But I do feel that there are other notes too.I have shifted from California temporarily and do not have access to my keyboard and my Raaga book. Just give me sometime and I will respond.
This song is the best creation of TKR (after he split up with MSV). In fact, I picked up this god-forsaken movie called "Marakka mudiyuma" for this song only to discover much to my dismay that the song was deleted. PS however sings the first 2 lines of the songs in swarams in one scene.

In the last line, "manam pongi...", I felt some vibrations inside. En manamum serndhu pongi ezhundhada pola oru feeling. No words to describe my feeling. Great work by PS.

Gem of a song!!! I believe it is from the film "Idhaya Kamalam", right? Can any one of you tell me who the MD was and the complete lyrics?

My mother used to tell that PS' voice suits K.R.Vijaya very well, like in this particular song and the song,
"Thamizhukkum amudhendru paer...
andha Thamizh inbath Thamizh endhan uyirukku naer... uyirukku naer"

I forgot the film's name. Can anyone of you tell me the film name also?

Thanks. I read somewhere that the song is in the
34th mela, vagadhIswari. Although Valaj is a janya
of chakravaham, the set of notes it uses, i.e., s g3 p d2 n2,
is also a subset of vagadhIswari. So that thing I
read could be right. I fully agree with you that
it is a very beautiful song with nice humming by
KJJ. If you do write down the swaras for this song
please share the info with us here.

The MD for Idaya Kamalam was KV Mahadevan. This song has been discussed in the archives, this is based on the ragam Mohanam - experts correct me if I am wrong.

Thamizhukku is from Panjavarnakili ( I think - not too sure), it was sung on screen by KR Vijaya - who did all kinds of konashtais .

Malargal....starts with a tampoora which sets the mood and then continues with a base flute piece. Both interludes are terrific with classy sitar and flute pieces.,,a great creation by KVM. Who else but Kannadasan can so subtly put accross a woman's recollection of her first night without a hint of vulgarity.

I've told you guys before in one of these sites that if you need the lyrics of any song of PS then ask me. I know them all. If possible I can also sing for you.

(You should not be surprised if I said I was listed first in the list of female voices in college because I sing in a female voice since childhood mainly because of the influence of
PS. I didn't sing her number first though, when I first started to sing when I was in school!)
