Thanks for the link ..Swamiji. Dont worry, I do not have any suggestion/advice for you :). To get to the title of this thread. Long time back I wanted the Triton-blessed guys like you to come up with MIDI, as well as a mp3 version of some good TFM songs. This way I can hear track by track. For eg. Naveen's piano works are very stimulating. Because I can focus on the flow of the main melody . So how about a digital recording straight of that Triton (without going through any ADC) ? :)

Mmm...I started a few songs, but unfortunately have to wipe out cakewalk from my machine coz it was my company's. So I stopped sequencing for a long time. But I have started on "Kandukonden Kandukonden" and I guess I will finish it in the near future :)
You know that you need good GM sounds / a good soundcard to hear the right sounds? The songs in my Triton wont sound good (or should I say totally different?) in another sound module. But if I record them in MP3, how can u split tracks? Is there a solution to this?
I started on pachai nirame looong time back...is waiting to be finished. Will upload into my web-page soon.

I think triton keyboard doesnt have a digital out - but the sound module does. Comment may throw some light on this...

Hi:
I listened to Peacock Dance from Srikanth and Group. I personally feel srikanth is a virtuos composer. Here are my comments.
Marvellous Arrangement. Percussion Instrument follow up is excellent - very touchy and melodious pallavi - Singer did good job in pallavi. Interlude keeps me into some slow dance mood - composer, you're really successful in evoking that kind of feeling. When there's a change in the raga towards the end of the interlude, some noise is there and it really disturbs - I assume it' a recording mistake. However composer gets hold onto melody again. Candidly I felt that team has lost interest in recording once the interludes get over - Singer seems to have lost the spirit in the charanam. However it is very soothing when the singer concludes the song without any instruments.
Guys, it's truly a difficult job to produce music to this sound quality. Give a big clap to the Team.
Regards,
Aditya

Swamiji,
I have okay soundfonts (UtopiaLive). I also have n-track. I know I cannot split tracks with mp3, I will do that with the MIDI file. The mp3 is just for comparison. Are you sure there is no digital out ? hmm..everything inside is digital, so why would they not provide one. I want a digital out even on my Cable TV set top box !!!
Aditya ..you have a nice attitude. Keep it up guy.

Srikanth
Excellent!
The vocal version is great. Special highlights
are the mood change when you bring in the charanam, and the ethereal girl humming and the calm voice of Vijay. Great music.
Udhaya's imagination is very nice. I especially
liked the wonder "naan urangumpodhu meengal vaanil
parandhidumo".
Keep it up, team!
Small suggestion: please rename the vocal version as "mayakkamenna malarae" or something
more appropriate on mp3.com, so that people
will realize it is a full fledged song.
Expecting more,
best wishes

Swamiji, Kiru,
The triton does not have a digital out.
THe rack version has it. Maybe because they
thought the keyboard is a stage instrument and
the rack version is a studio instrument. In any
case, they did a foolish thing, by not having the
digi out.
In a situation like this, what is the next best
thing - is there a line out that is noise free
and a cable setup? Kiru, Comment, can you illuminate?

Yup, it doesnt have a digital out for sure. Maybe the Karma has...again dunno for sure.
Srikanth, a good effort. Keep it up! Whats your next??
Anyways, I feel your orchestration can improve even more (it already sounds great!). The melodic phrases could be shorter, and there could be even more repetitions (just a suggestion)...I meant more form and shorter phrases - to bring familiarity.
Waiting to hear more!

and have also emailed you.
Guys if anyone can provide some info on what kind of Synth is ideal for composing and also which software is good for mixing like cakewalk or something I will appreciate it.
And also any links to Indian sound fonts
PS Aditya do you have any of ur works on the net?

You can listen to some of my stuff here. Well I know none of my works so far have any sophisticated sound engineering. All the recording was done with a simple keyboard with onboard simple sequencer. Even I am in the process of investing on good workstation etc.,

Thanks man,I listened to them its all nice and original. I like vakulabharanam and aditya in that order.
I have also managed to record few samples of my own. Unfortunately I dont have any keyboard with me as of now so I used my pc keyboard to compose them so you may find them not all that perfect
here is the link

Hi Aditya,
I couldnt get to your links. Where are these?
Sorry, I havent done any compositions on my own...just wish I could!! I sequenced a few songs sometime back, with GM. It was only now I jumped from a Yamaha PSR to Triton!! Huge leap, so I am kind of learning my instrument. You can hear the songs at
http://members.tripod.com/kishmu/MIDI/
and click on any of *.mid files to listen.
Comment, glad to know u survived a 6.5 biggie. I heard from my colleagues in Seattle that this was indeed a long one. Hope everythings well?

Ilayanila is Excellent. Did you play them on PSR or Triton? Guitar piece, was it played on real guitar? You're another great talent I found.
Will talk to you more in detail.

Thanks for your feedback. Based on my quick listening, here are my comments.
Innocent-II is very good. I think it's based on Hamsadhwani/Kalyani. Good Imagination.
JaiAmbike seems to be based on SriRanjani Raga.
Sa Re Ga Ma Da Ne Sa...Sounds good but I don't know why your playing is not synchronized with the background beats.
Let me listen to all of them once again in the evening and get back to you.
Keep composing.

Aditya

I have a tabla soundfont and a mridangam
soundfont in my archives. Will send them to you,
if you mail me at rjaymidi@yahoo.com (with your
email id).
If you and at least few others are interested
I can create a few more soundfonts for Indian
instruments. Let me know your choice. Only thing it takes lot of time crafting it!
Those who are planning to invest in
big gear, but dont have the money, my friendly tip is by Soundblaster Live platinum.
A soundblaster Live platinum card can provide
studio quality output with its onboard wavetable and Cakewalk express and
Soundforge which come with it. You can also use
sound fonts of any instruments you may need.
And best all sounds except vocals can be directly
captured within the card, so no noise!
You can produce decent mixes with even this setup.
All my mixes are produced with this setup that cost me 150$ for the sound card and 150$ for the
midi keyboard. I know the mixes are not studio
quality but the key is to stretch the imagination
and technical skills with this minimal setup.
Oil paintings are most beautiful, but a beginner
should spend most time pencil drawing because
form and shading are the first things to be mastered! And then you can become a gadget-collector
like Rahman and Comment! ;)

Guys,
Thanks! Well, they were all played on my PSR -
Theres a few things in MIDI to "immitate" an instrument. Some I learnt it by myself (by listening to some excellent MIDIs on the web), and some I learnt from mags like keyboardmag.com
The guitars sound like guitar (actually no - it is still synthetic - but u can make it sound like one) because if you look closely at the notes (zoom it in a MIDI editor) and you will see where the notes fall wrt each other.
I realized this late - so you will see what iam talking about in "poove sempoove" onwards.
The guitars sounds have these important variables
1. Velocity (how hard you strike)
2. Loudness (or volume) 1&2 are related in a guitar
3. Attack (very important! - when u "glide" over strings)
4. Bend (use pitch bender)
5. Modulation - Like a vibrato - when u hold a note and tremolo (with a tremolo arm - or with plain fingers!!)
6. Sustain
7. Up and down movement
When u "strum" with a guitar - u go up and down - and they sound different - You can control this with a Triton (use arpeggiator up/down), but not with GM (yet!) -
Also when you strum, the notes of 6 (or lower) fall in succession - from lower to higher when u go up, and vice versa. Memorize how you play chords with right notes and store it in a MIDI bank! You can later then simply cut and Paste into right measure!! Hehehe...
So thats how u strum.
Many think that its impossible to do large bends with a guitar (or veenai???)...but u can do it by "gliding" over notes.
- example - see Raja Raja Cholan
When you glide, you strike a note (with maximum
ATTACK) and then go over frets (with successively LOWER attacks - contol attack with attack variable). This creates a "bending" thingy. Again, dont draw a straight line to attack (it is exponential) - this is for those that like to "draw" effects!! Also remember to sustain the first note. Otherwise, you would not get a smooth glide, but jumps!
You know what bending is - again bending is not a straight line. Remember theres spring action in benders (be it a string or keyboard pitch benders)...so the bending "line" would best be a "sine" curve....WHAT??? you may think...the best solution is to use Pitch bender!!
You can use modulation as it is...
Anyways - some info on "imitating" instrus...
You can actually find more info on the web.
