TMS&P.SUSEELA VS SPB&S.JANAKI

I certainly think and feel that TMS& P.SUSEELA,jodi which really dominated the tamil film music in the 60"s and 70"s is the BEST duet pair we ever had.Even IR"S favourite SPB,S.JANAKI jodi is no where near to them.

  To support further I put this way...1980 to 1990, per year 120 t0 140 Telugu movies were produced and PS was very busy singing telugu numbers...
  SJ was busy in TFM from 77 to 86...10 years of IRs continuous patronage....Even during this period PS sang around 300 songs in telugu and tamil under IR.....

  C.S.Jayaraaman cannot be put in the league of MKT, TRM, SPB, KJY, Seerkazhi. IMHO CSJ lacks in many part of singing. He was Udit/Suresh Peters of 60s IMHO.
  
  Even now I could not stop laughing when i hear that those days there was a contest between CSJ and TMS to be selected as a singer for Sivaji. Thank God TMS has won it.
  
  
  Want to have a glimpses of superb singing of both TMS and SPB that too entirely different variety, in a same song? Listen to the song UththaravinRi ULLae vaa. TMS sung for Nagesh in that song in Bhagavadhar(not MKT) style and SPB for Ravichandran in a romantic hero style in that song. Wow! its really a treat. Wonderful music by MSV-TKR (i think).

  CSJ was excellent in rendering Thamizh! From at least one song that describes many rAgAs, I think he was fluent with carnatic as well. He may not be TMS or SPB, but definitely not udit. Compare paNNaradhulayum oru nyAyam irukku! nenju poRukkudhillaiyE:-(

  yes i agree with the diction part. csj was clear in his pronunciation. my comparison(not equation) was to say that, in general, he was not a good singer of those days just like our udit/suresh peters of present days. suresh and udit has one more strong positive point, ie. killer instinct, in their diction, which that poor csj lacked, thats all.

  TOday we know where Anuradha Sriram stands among female singers...She is N0 4 or 5 among newcomer.suddenly some thunder Puyal appears becomes super hit MD and this new PUYAL starts giving most of his hit songs for next 10 years to Anuradha will we all say Anu is the Greatest singer in TFM....No we will still maintain Sujatha, Chitra are better than her,,,,
  Same applies to SJ...In TFM she was never instant hit....Like ANU has Karupputhan enakku piditcha ...SJ had Singaravelane....So she was one among the tops and PS was always in top since her first song to Muthumanimalai or Kannukku mai Azhagu.

  but why she did not get "singara velane"
  b'coz none other singer can sing "singara velane" except S.JANAKI

  Vocal Techniques
  
  • sing with good breath control.
  • sing with correct vocal placement.
  • shape pure vowels.
  • create clear consonants.
  These are the normal techniques for vocal and I feel PS is having all these capacities.

  I don’t know what is your definition for talent. ( you mean gimmics? Mimicry!!?)
  Few songs I take as a reference which PS and SJ sung together
  1. Kaalathai ventavan nee ( Adimai penn). After the charanam, a long humming, which starts with PS. This song by all means susheela dominates and SJ just follow her. ( to understand the breath control of PS you can hear " unnazhai kanniyargal" last humming from uthamaputhran. )
  2. Pallavi ontu mannan ketka ppaduvenadi ( sollathan ninaikiren)
  SJ starts first. In between PS starts from "meera paadia paadalai ketka kannan varavillayo". Actually, SJ could have score more. But, it didn’t workout with PS. ( available in musicindiaonline.com under Susheela.p catagory)
  3. kunguma pottu kulunguthadi (Ithu sathiyam)
  In this song tough competition between them while singing. Song starts in SJ's range. Clear prounsation of PS push SJ little bit down. Last humming started by SJ. I thought "This is very comfortable range of SJ( she is a saprona). How PS is going to sing!!?. Next PS replies for that, you hear man , you can really feel the difference. Almost at the end SJ goes to high pitch ( bit screaming voice). For that also PS replies with power. ( available in musicindiaonline.com under Susheela.p catagory) . No way she can come nearer to PS in talents.
  4. Azhahan, azhahan ( thozhilali)
  5. Anname sorname ( Theivathin theivam)
  I add a comment of MD T.R.PAPA " Evaalvu mele ponalum, illa,keezhe vanthaalum, pisiradikkatha kural P.S-kku. Kadantha 50-years la ippadi oru kural vanthathilla" PAPA ( This MD rejected PS initially for her Tamil, and later stages, she become his favourite. That is spirit and achievement of PS)
  Note that I am not adding any comments on PS from stage programs. Stage-il "mugastuthi" paadvor athigam. I am giving these thing which I have paper cutting or proof from net.
  
  No one in the industry now is talented like PS. When MGR was in US hospital, in TN everywhere "Iraiva un maaligayil ethanayo mani vilakku" song , represents the feeling of TN people. It brought back MGR's life once to TN people. At the end " Iriva nee aanaiyidu, aanaiyidu" entu iraivanukke aaniyidum antha voice. ( see the power in that voice)

  Thoothu solla oru thozhi illai ena - ( LREashwari)
  Unathu malar kodiyile , enathu malar madiyile ( LREashwari)
  Un nenja thottu sollu en rasa ( rajathi raja) _ with chitra
  Thathedutha muthu pillai yaro ( rettai vaal kuruvi) - with chitra

  " Singaravelane " is the Best of Janaki, not in best of TFM. The credit should go to that MD, because SJ dont know carnatic music. He made her to sing. It is only a "sringara paadal". PS replied to her in "nalanthaana song" . Nalanthaana song also with "naathaswaram". In TFM PS thread ( cinema express) mr. vamanan written about this song .( epi- V). athil "oru pinnani paadagar , ezhu swarangalai mattum pidithal pothathu. Ithayathin swarangalayum pidikka vendum enbatharku PS-in intha paadale saatchi" entu ezhthi irukkirar. How true it is?
  " singaravelane " paaduvatharku carnatic isai therintha oruvar pothum. swara variasi avarukku easy-aha varum. oru P.leela or MLV or VJ oothi thalli vida koodiya paatu than athu. SJ also did it well.
