Sundar: Yes They sound the same to me. And I don't find clear cut way to differentiate if they belong to janjuti or Harikhamboji.
But, Senjuruttti has one folk style, which is lacking in all songs listed.
This must be the influence of SaadharaNa gandhaaram.
example for senchurutti :
pullaai piRavi thara vaeNum - oothukkaadu
kaNnan varugindra neram - oothukkaadu
krishna mukundhaa muraare

Vidhya, having agreed that these might be similar maybe it is possible to analyze further. This article explains Jhinjhoti more clearly especially with reference and contrast to Khamaj. It winds up by discussing Harikambhoji in this context superficially. It will take some time to digest al this info ... meanwhile I wish MS would take a break from his thesis and chime in :)

whether coz oothukaadu or Rahman I seemed to converge somehow on Lagaan song:
Ma/dhu/ban me/in kan/ha/ya

Jab/ki/si go/pi se mi/le
m mRS SR P P RR
....
Ra/dha kai/se na ja/le

Aa/g tan man mein la/ge
n n S G G G G
Ra/dha kai/se na ja/le

Ra/dha kai/se na ja/le

... anyone find something similar?
PS: Rags ... might be cool to listen to the other version also. See if you can find a clip.

Listening closely, comparing RKNJ with pazha mudhir cholaile and singara velane deva seems more plausible ... listed as Bhimpalasi in TFM site also.b Interesting how the keys are quite similar except for the difference in emphasis on certain keys and sequences ... sema olarals ... no wonder MS has distanced himself.

I am reading through all the postings. I have not distanced myself. Presently I dont seem to have anything worthy of saying. So in ROM..nothing else..

Sundar:
i am sorry i didnt u'stand the swaras u placed for the song.
for eg., u have put the foll.
Ma/dhu/ban me/in kan/ha/ya
SSR RmmRS
Jab/ki/si go/pi se mi/le
m mRS SR P P RR .....
but i feel the swaras for this are:
Ma/dhu/ban me/in kan/ha/ya
M M P P N N PM P
Jab/ki/si go/pi se mi/le
N N P M P SS P M
maybe u were trying to suggest the similarities in the Meter ofthe song with some Oothukaadu song, which i didnt follow:-).
also, though RKNJ is similar to singara velane deva (both are the same raaga), but i don't feel it doesnt sound similar to Pazhamuthir Cholai(which is Harikambhoji,if i am right).
pls correct me if i am wrong:-)
cheers

Welcome to the SB Queen! :)
Vidhya, sk, satsona: let's see what ground we have covered from senjuruti onwards using one common source (a pretty neat web-site:
http://www.geocities.com/promiserani2/ragas.html)
shenjuruTTi
28 harikaambhOji janya
Aa: D2 S R2 G3 M1 P D2 N2
Av: N2 D2 P M1 G3 R2 S N2 D2 P D2 S
jhinjoTi
28 harikaambhOji janya
Aa: D2 S R2 G3 M1 P D2 N2
Av: D2 P M1 G3 R2 S N2 D2 P D2 S
harikaambhOji
28 harikaambhOji mela
Aa: S R2 G3 M1 P D2 N2 S
Av: S N2 D2 P M1 G3 R2 S
kaambhOji
28 harikaambhOji janya
Aa: S R2 G3 M1 P D2 S
Av: S N2 D2 P M1 G3 R2 S N3. P. D2. S
kamaas
28 harikaambhOji janya
Aa: S M1 G3 M1 P D2 N2 S
Av: S N2 D2 P M1 G3 R2 S
From what I can see from the above is Jhinjhoti = Senjurutti (at least as far as Arohanam/Avarohanam are concerned) but the actual variations could be smeared across the harikambhoji domain allowing different people to listen related ragams?
Now what is this last stuff?
bhimpalaas
22 kharaharapriyaa janya
Aa: N2 S G2 M1 P N2 S
Av: S N2 D2 P M1 G2 R2 S
Bhimpalasi should not be related at all ... so either Sundar's olarals or ???? :)
